Introduction
 Water is a chemical substance with
the formula of hydrogen and oxygen
(H2O)
 Our earth consists of 70%of water.
 Density of water: 999.97 kg/m³
Interesting Facts:
A human drinks water
because body needs 75% of
water to do exercise for eg:
walking
Capacity of Water
 Water has a capacity to absorb 4.184 Joules of heat for
the temperature of one gram of water to increase 1
degree Celsius (°C).
 Example: It only takes 0.385 Joules of heat to raise 1
gram of copper 1°C.
Uses of Water
Domestic
uses
• It refers to the use of water for
household purposes.
• Example: Bathing, Washing clothes.
Birds and
Wildlife
• Birds and wildlife get energy to do their
daily routine.
Uses of Water
Industries
• Used for power generation.
• Used to prepare chemicals.
Irrigation
• Used for Agriculture.
• Used in stadiums.
Ground Water
 Groundwater is the water located beneath the earth's surface
in soil pore spaces and in the fractures of rock formations.
 Unit of rock or an unconsolidated deposit is called
an aquifer when it can yield a usable quantity of water. The depth
at which soil pore spaces or fractures and voids in rock become
completely saturated with water is called the water table.
 Groundwater is recharged from, and eventually flows to, the
surface naturally; natural discharge often occurs at springs and
seeps.
 Groundwater is also often withdrawn or agricultural, municipal,
and industrial use by constructing and operating
extraction wells. The study of the distribution and movement of
groundwater is hydrogeology, also called groundwater hydrology.
Water Pollution
 Water pollution occurs when energy and other
materials are released into water . It contaminates
water for other purposes.
Different Causes of Water
Pollution
 Marine Dumping
 Industrial Waste
 Sewage, mainly from
households
Water Cycle
 Water cycle describes the continuous movement of
water on, above and below the Earth surface.
 In this process, water heated and it changes its form
from liquid to steam(evaporation), this also occurs for
plants it is called transpiration.
 Water in air(steam) gets mixed with dust particles,
when water it cools down(condenses) it takes the
shape of a cloud, when it gets heavier, it rains this this
known as precipitation.
 Water again gets restored.
Water, A bad master
Destruction
• Destroyed many
houses and killed
over thousands of
people.
Almost as
fast as jet
plane
• Travels at a speed
of 805 kmph.
Many
reasons
• Underwater
earthquake
• Giant meteor
• Landslide
• Volcanic eruption
Don’t waste water
 If you’re lathering turn off the water.
 Don’t play with water.
 Use bucket instead of shower.
 Check your plumbing for leaks, especially faucets.
Slogan on Water
 English:
A drop of water is more precious than a sack of gold to
a thirsty man.
 French:
Une goutte d'eau vaut plus qu'un sac d'or à un homme
assoiffé .
