6. Acid Lake
• What happens when a lake turns acidic?
• How can you measure acidity?
• What causes a lake to turn acidic?
• What can be done once a lake turns acidic?
7. Mineral
• Test the hardness of water
• Identify different mineral in water
• Are they healthy?
• What was their source?
• Process of water cleansing
9. Authentic Annual Observation
• Have class observe conditions at body of
water annual. Preferably one that has
significance to the community.
• Students form three person teams and collect
readings for temperature, pH, and minerals.
• Students graph data, interpret and make
predictions. They also learn more information
about key area in their community.
10. Extension
• Assess the affect of acid rain on aquatic
invertebrates.
• Determine if the pH level has affected other
organisms in the ecosystem.
• Describe how the prescience or absence of
aquatic invertebrate can help assess water
quality.
11. Multi-Unit
• This lesson provides the opportunity to extend
to temperature laboratories in the class room.
• There also is the opportunity to continue with
laboratories dealing with pH and mineral
composition.
• Students also could study the auatic
invertebrate in detail and under microscopic
view.
