The final project is the creation of a grant proposal.
The assessment for this course will be the construction of a grant proposal that targets a current need. The overall assessme nt will
demonstrate your ability not only to conduct research, but to think critically. Specifically, the paper will examine your ability to

• Explanation of issues: Issue/problem to be considered critically is stated clearly and described comprehensively,
delivering all relevant information necessary for full understanding

• Influence of context and assumptions: Thoroughly analyzes own and others’ assumptions and carefully evaluates the

• Your position: Specific position is imaginative, taking into account the complexities of an issue. Limits of position are
acknowledged. Others’ points of view are synthesized within position.

Project Overview
You will present a 4-5 minute speech on a topic of your choice. This is a five-part project with
separate deadlines as specified on the pages that follow. You will present the final speech to
your instructor only, in Week 11, via YouTube video. A basic timeline of deliverables is listed

This project is intended to demonstrate the importance of effective and ethical communication skills,
including the communication process, types of communication, and listening skills. Throughout the

Assignment Details:
Part 1: Speech Outline
For your speech outline, you will begin compiling ideas for your speech and consider how you can
use research to support you in developing your speech. Possible topics include an aspect related to
your field of study, topics in the news, or any other topics of interest. Keep in mind that talking about
what you know and are passionate about can make the speech easier to write, as well as present.
Perform the following tasks:
Create a 1-2 page (250-500 word) speech outline in Word to be submitted by the end of Week
4.
o Include the following in your outline:
Main topic summary – Briefly describe the main topic you will be presenting
in your speech (3-5 sentences).
Background – Briefly describe why you chose your topic (3-5 sentences).

The flaw is that they need the criminal to be apprehended and processed in order for the DNA to be in the system.
In Knoxville Tennessee, FBI Emergency Response agents train how to excavate a body at the Body Farm. The agents pair up in teams with forensic anthropologists to learn how to best identify and excavate human remains to preserve the clues and pieces of evidence that decaying bodies may leave behind. The weeklong training gives agents step by step instructions while surprising the agents with twists and surprises during their excavations. This was very interesting to me because it helps put things into perspective. Teaches them to put the victim first, which will motivate them to slow down, be methodical with their techniques and be very thorough because it only can be done once.

However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
