The Questioned Documents Unit (QDU) provides forensic support to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies by conducting examinations on evidence collected during their investigation as well as expert testimony concerning information contained in the reports. The Cryptanalysis and Racketeering Records Unit (CRRU) supports law enforcement by assisting in the analysis of cryptic communications such as codes found in letters, notes and diaries (FBI.gov). After an individual is arrested, I will obtain fingerprints and photographs of the subject and complete a number of forms that are used to start a criminal file on the subject. I will use the Buccal Collection DNA test kit provided by the FBI on my subject. Once completed properly and submitted to the FBI, the kit will be sent to the Federal DNA Database Unit (FDDU). The FDDU will take the DNA test kit and upload it into NDIS creating a DNA profile for my subject. The subject’s DNA profile will be searched against unknown forensic profiles from crime scenes across the country. If my subject’s DNA matches with another crime from another state he can be charged for that crimes as well. In my opinion this is the most important service the FBI has. This allows all agencies to communicate and share information based off of DNA evidence. The flaw is that they need the criminal to be apprehended and processed in order for the DNA to be in the system. In Knoxville Tennessee, FBI Emergency Response agents train how to excavate a body at the Body Farm. The agents pair up in teams with forensic anthropologists to learn how to best identify and excavate human remains to preserve the clues and pieces of evidence that decaying bodies may leave behind. The weeklong training gives agents step by step instructions while surprising the agents with twists and surprises during their excavations. This was very interesting to me because it helps put things into perspective. 1) Evidence collection can be the single most crucial process in an investigation. The evidence collection process is the foundation of the case. Evidence must be adequately photographed, collected, and documented. One of the fathers of forensic science, Edmond Locard, had a principle that states that every contact leaves a trace. Once evidence is touched, moved, or disturbed, it is never the same (Horswell, J., & Fowler, C. 2004.)
Due to the importance of evidence collection, a trained individual in crime scene management is key to obtaining evidence properly and collecting the most important evidence that could lead to solving the case.
A crime scene unit is a massive advantage in many ways. People in crime scene units are trained civilians and law enforcement officers in the field of forensics (Gehl, R. and Plecas, D. 2017.) They know what to look for in different types of crimes due to their training and experience. A patrol officer may not know what to look for and will most likely not have the proper equipment to look for certain types of evidence. Another advantage is that the crime scene unit can manage the scene while the investigator now has time to talk to witnesses, offenders, write search warrants, etc. An investigator for a smaller agency doesn’t have the luxury of having someone work the crime scene. The lead investigator now has to manage/ work the crime scene, talk to witness, develop leads, write search warrants, and many other things. With all of these tasks, it is easy to miss a step in the evidence collection process. One final advantage is straightforward, proper documentation. Often patrol officers skip steps when it comes to documenting evidence. This is because they do not know the importance of adequate documentation. Chain of custody can be a deal-breaker in a case in court. Crime scene techs know how to document the chain of custody properly and know the proper forms to fill out for different types of evidence examinations.
With all the positives of evidence collection units, it is still impossible for most police departments to have this option. To ensure that a department’s investigators are qualified to manage a scene, they must be sent to trainings such as the National Forensic Academy or the TBI State Academy. These are options for the departments that can’t provide units dedicated to evidence collection. Also, patrol officers should be trained in basic crime scene management to preserve a scene properly until an investigator arrives. It is a patrol officer’s second nature to determine a victim, but it is not their second nature to determine pertinent physical evidence at a crime scene (Hawthorne, M. R. 1998.) Proper schooling and training could help make this a second nature.

Evidence is essential to solving any case and proving the guilt of an offender in a court of law. Once a crime has been reported the first step of the responding officer is to secure the crime scene to ensure it is properly preserved until forensic investigators can arrive on the scene. In the rape scenario DNA evidence is crucial to proving a crime occurred and showing the guilt of the offender. Rape cases are hard to prosecute and require physical evidence to prove the act of rape even occurred. In a majority of cases it is the word of the victim against the word of the perpetrator. DNA evidence can provide conclusive evidence that a sexual assault occurred and point to the guilty offender. In the rape scenario evidence that was located and will need to be collected is the semen on the comforter and the tissue located in the trash can. This evidence can contain valuable DNA that points directly to the offender. The semen and the tissue can contain the DNA profile of the offender and the tissue.

Abstract
The scientific progression of DNA profiling, DNA typing, and DNA testing in the past 60 years has markedly changed the role of forensic science in crime control. The use of DNA in forensic science has created a hotly contested conversation regarding the role of science in criminal justice, the validity of science in law, and the right to privacy. This paper will explore the history of both DNA profiling in both the scientific community and forensic science, it will explore the validity of the role of DNA science in law, and it will evaluate the benefits and consequences of DNA profiling on individual privacy and the impact to crime management.
The history of DNA profiling is traced back to both the continued scientific understanding of DNA and the understanding of science as “fact” in law. Not only do we need to understand the progression of DNA in science, but we also need to understand when science found a place in law, specifically forensics. In order to better understand the benefits and effects of DNA profiling you must recognize both how DNA has evolved in science and where it began to find its place in law. After understanding these two pieces of information we can then look into how it’s made an impact in the world of crime management.
Though the double helix structure was discovered by James Watson in the 21st century, the history of DNA can be traced back to Gregor Mendel. In 1886 Gregor Mendel published a paper titled, “Experiments in Plant Hybridization” where he found the fundamental laws of inheritance. This was the first claim in science that recognized patterns from one generation to the next (Mendel, 1886). According to Michael Lynch, “it was ignored by the scientific community for another thirty-four years” (Lynch, 2011, p.5). Mendel’s work led to the scientific community’s attention in genes. This attention eventually led to the discovery of the double-helix by Watson in 1962 (Murphy, 2005). The double helix gives a format for what the previous knowledge science had developed about the cell.
We understand DNA as follows: Both strands of double-stranded DNA store the same biological information. This information is replicated as and when the two strands separate. Fingerprints are necessary as individualizing evidence since they can link an individual to crime due to their uniqueness. There are no people who have the same fingerprints.
Identification is made when a fingerprint from a crime scene is linked to another one from a suspect or a database. DNA is a new technology that allows the crime investigators to match the biological samples acquired from a crime scene to a criminal. DNA evidence is admissible in court and therefore is frequently used. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Questioned Documents Unit (QDU) provides forensic support to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies by conducting examinations on evidence collected during their investigation as well as expert testimony concerning information contained in the reports. The Cryptanalysis and Racketeering Records Unit (CRRU) supports law enforcement by assisting in the analysis of cryptic communications such as codes found in letters, notes and diaries (FBI.gov). After an individual is arrested, I will obtain fingerprints and photographs of the subject and complete a number of forms that are used to start a criminal file on the subject. I will use the Buccal Collection DNA test kit provided by the FBI on my subject. Once completed properly and submitted to the FBI, the kit will be sent to the Federal DNA Database Unit (FDDU). The FDDU will take the DNA test kit and upload it into NDIS creating a DNA profile for my subject. The subject’s DNA profile will be searched against unknown forensic profiles from crime scenes across the country. If my subject’s DNA matches with another crime from another state he can be charged for that crimes as well. In my opinion this is the most important service the FBI has. This allows all agencies to communicate and share information based off of DNA evidence. The flaw is that they need the criminal to be apprehended and processed in order for the DNA to be in the system. In Knoxville Tennessee, FBI Emergency Response agents train how to excavate a body at the Body Farm. The agents pair up in teams with forensic anthropologists to learn how to best identify and excavate human remains to preserve the clues and pieces of evidence that decaying bodies may leave behind. The weeklong training gives agents step by step
