Ward radiography
• Ward radiography is done to patient who have
severe medical conditions and are for the
patients which are unable to take on radiology
department for x-ray examination. For these
patients, radiographers should perform the
radiography in ward.
• Ward radiography is performed at different surgical
and medical ward:
• Coronary care unit
• Medical assessment unit
• Surgical ward
• Cardiac surgery unit
• Intensive care unit(ICU)
• Pediatric intensive care unit(PICU)
• Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
• Orthopedic ward
• Accident and emergency ward

• Chest – AP
• Abdomen supine
• Cervical spine – lateral
• Pelvis – AP
• Femur – Lateral horizontal beam
• Neonatal x-ray examination
• Chest and abdomen - AP
Equipment for ward radiography
• Proper handle of x-ray machine, x-ray cassette
and marker
Control of infection
• Wear gloves in hands and mask in face.
• Clean x-ray accessories
Radiation protection
• Use lead apron , thyroid shield and gonad
shield during ward radiography
• Use short exposure time
Theater radiography
• The radiographic examination performed in
operation theater called theater radiography.
• The radiographic examination performed in
operation theater are:
