CHAPTER – 2
VOCABULARY
VOCABULARY
Look at the following words.
Quickness Swiftness
The above words are nouns, but they are formed
when the suffix “-ness” is added to the adjectives
‘quick’ and ‘swift’.
Read the passage again, pick out adjectives, and
see if they take the suffix ‘-ness’ to form nouns.
Check your work using a dictionary. Then form a
meaningful sentence to understand its usage better.
Some of the adjectives that take the suffix ‘-
ness’ and form nouns are:
Curious Curiousness
Free Freeness
Lonely Loneliness
Heavy Heaviness
Precious Preciousness
There was a curious expression on the faces of the
children when a beautiful butterfly entered into the
class room. The curiousness vanished when they
remembered the strictness of their teacher.
You are a free man as long you respect the
freeness.
First I dreaded to lead a lonely life when the
curfew was called but now slowly I got used to
loneliness.
The box is very heavy. You may take out a few
things to reduce its heaviness.
The preciousness of the precious things increases
with the time.
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING THE
PRESENTATION.
