Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
I asked you about song because we will
tackle about a song entitle “Don’t Forget
Where You Belong” which is one of the
lyric poems used by the 1D, which shows
how it is important that you always
remember where you came from and
remember who you are.
(Discuss a brief info about 1D)
But before we start, how many of you
know what a poem is?
Very good! All of your answers are correct.
So a poem is highly expressive, written in
verse, and arranged with rhyme and
meter. There are many kinds of poetry.
What kinds of poetry do you know?
Yes all your answers are correct. We have
the narrative, epic, dramatic, elegy and
lyric poetry.
So according to our book, the song is
grouped under lyric poetry. Lyric, do you
know or understand this word?
Poetry is pretty but what do you call the
words found in a song?
Very nice! So now lyric poetry would be…
Student 5: A poem is a composition written
in verse.
Student 6: A poem is an arrangement of
words containing meaning.
Student 7: A poem is a highly expressive,
literary piece.
Student 8: A poem is a composition written
with rhyme and meter.
Student 9: Epic
Student 10: Drama/Dramatic
Student 11: Narrative
Student 12: Elegy
Student 13: Lyric
Student 14: Lyrics.
Student 15: Lyric poetry is a poem with
words.
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Yes every poem is composed of words but
what does the word lyric tell about this
type of poem?
Activity 1: Discussion
Don’t Forget Where You Belong
By One Direction
Been a lot of places
I’ve been all around the world - 1
Seen a lot of faces
Never knowing where I was - 2
On the horizon
Oh, well, I know, I know, I know
I know the sun will be rising
Student 16: Lyric poetry is a poem that is
meant to be sung
Back home -3
Living out of cases, - 4
Packing up and taking off - 5
Made a lot of changes
But not forgetting who I was - 6
On the horizon
Oh, well, I know, I know, I know,
I know the moon will be rising
Back home - 7
Don’t forget where you belong, home
Don’t forget where you belong, home
If you ever feel alone, don’t - 8
You were never on your own
And the proof is in this song - 9
I’ve been away for ages
But I’ve got everything I need
I’m flicking through the pages
I’ve written in my memory - 10
I feel like I’m dreaming
Oh, so I know, I know, I know,
I know that I’m never leaving
No, I won’t go - 11
Don’t forget where you belong, home
Don’t forget where you belong, home
If you ever feel alone, don’t
You were never on your own
And the proof is in this song
Lights off when they should be on- 12
Even stars and skies above
Short days when the nights are long - 13
When I think of the days I’ve gone
Don’t matter how far I’ve gone
I’ll always be around oh - 14
Don’t forget where you belong, home
Don’t forget where you belong (don’t forget
it), home
If you ever feel alone, don’t
You were never on your own
Never, never
Don’t forget where you belong, home
Don’t forget where you belong (don’t forget
it), home
If you ever feel alone, don’t
You were never on your own (you were
never)
And the proof is in this song
Home
Don’t forget it
Home
If you ever feel alone, don’t
You were never on your own (you were
never)
And the proof is in this song
Never forget it
This song
Don’t forget it!
No, I never forget it
This song
You were never – 15
After you read and listen to the song, how
do you feel?
After reading the first stanza, what can you
say about it?
Yes, very well!
Have you been far away to your home or
to you love ones?
How is it feeling?
Yes, right. Now let’s proceed to the lyrics
interpretation, and let’s see if what you’ve
said is related to it.
