Videotext was an early information system that delivered pages of text and graphics to users through television or terminals using modems. It allowed two-way communication between centralized computer systems and users through telephone lines. Videotext encoded data in a serial format and used frequency-shift keying to transmit the signal, which was then decoded at the receiver. The system found applications in banking, shopping, messaging and other services by providing an interactive way to access information on a television or terminal.
