Linked data the next 5 years - From Hype to ActionAndreas Blumauer
How can we shape the future of Linked Data and the Semantic Web, to make it even more widely spread in enterprises and other organizations? Which developments around linked data technologies should we expect, and how can we implement various use cases successfully?
The presentation shows how architecture evolves in hyper grow companies like Qualtrics, Amazon or Netflix. It goes from monolith, through microservices to a multi-datacenter deployment. It includes a demo of 3 resilience patterns. Demo code can be found here: https://github.com/michalkutyla/resilience4j-demo

HTTP colon slash slash: end of the road? @ CakeFest 2013 in San FranciscoAlessandro Nadalin
The HTTP protocol has been there for more than 20 years, almost untouched, but the current needs of the web are pushing towards adding some spices into the mix.
In this talk we will have a brief look at the history of HTTP, what SPDY - the "new" protocol proposed by google - brings into the table and how HTTP/2.0 will look like.
WebRTC has been an exciting technology, and extremely fast moving for the past years. While its adoption and its disruptive power are not challenged anymore, the fast evolution pace, and the fast update cycles of the browsers made it difficult to build complex solutions on top of it which would leverage all that webrtc has to offer. Late 2015, the different standard committees and corresponding working groups that compose webRTC have finally reach a consensus, and from the convergence of all their efforts, stable specifications were born.
Through the use of GoToMeeting and other software, we will illustrate first the usual pains that most using webrtc have experienced, and then show how the webrtc APIs, which had started as a peer-to-peer API, were extended with an object model API to provide more options and more controls to this who need it, while keeping the simplicity of P2P for the others. The similitudes between the new Object Model API, and the ORTC API (implemented in edge) will also be illustrated.
Using Network Acceleration for an Optimized Edge Cloud Server ArchitectureNetronome
With the rise of cloud-native principles, applications are increasingly able to take advantage of diverse, specialized and distributed infrastructure. The emergence of Edge Cloud solutions promises faster and more immersive application experiences, as well as infrastructure primitives for 5G, IoT, mobility, and more. However, this new resource comes with space and power constraints that can only be overcome by using new disaggregated architectures that leverage network acceleration and optimally sized CPUs. The session will highlight how the capabilities unleashed by hardware offload of eBPF in edge cloud microservers will enable developers to efficiently leverage the massive amounts of data on the edge and to create next-generation real-time applications.
WebRTC gives us a way to do real-time, peer-to-peer communication on the web. In this talk, we'll go over the current state of WebRTC (both the awesome parts and the parts which need to be improved) as well as what could come in the future. Mostly though, we'll take a look at how to combine WebRTC with other web technologies to create great experiences on the front-end for real-time, p2p web apps.
WCF is not just for SOAP based services and can be used with popular protocols like RSS, REST and JSON. Rob Windsor covers URI templates, the importance of HTTP GET in the programmable web, how to expose service operations via HTTP GET, how to control the format of data exposed by service operations, and finally how to use the WebOperationContext to access the specifics of HTTP.
The Internet is full of Web Services, everyday more and more. Some services offer API (application programming interface) that developers use to build new applications (mash-ups). One of the most known and used technology for the machine-to-machine communication is SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) but in the last years we can use another paradigm, ReST (Representational State Transfer). How does it work?
When it comes to Microsoft .NET-connected development, more and more frameworks are entering the market, both from Microsoft and from open source. Think of ASP.NET MVC, Castle, Windows Workflow Foundation (WF), Entity Framework, Unity, Linq2SQL, ADO.NET Data Services, Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), nHibernate, Spring.NET, CSLA, NUnit, Enterprise Library, MEF or ADF.
Once you apply one or more frameworks to a project, the trouble begins. What if you require features that aren’t implemented in the framework? What if you decide that another framework would have been better and want to switch halfway through your project? What if the author of your favorite open source framework suddenly stops developing? What if the framework contains bugs or omissions? And what if a new version of the framework is released that is implemented differently?
These and many more everyday problems can bring your project a halt, or at least require serious refactoring. During this highly interactive talk, Sander Hoogendoorn, chief architect of Capgemini’s agile Accelerated Delivery Platform and member of Microsoft’s Partner Advisory Council .NET, demonstrates pragmatic architectures and patterns that will help your projects avoid framework issues and to keep code independent of framework choices. Sander presents models of layered architectures, and looks at applying bridge patterns, managers-providers, dependency injection, descriptors and layer super-types, accompanied by lots of demos and (bad) code examples using blocks from Microsoft’s Enterprise Library, NHibernate, Log4Net, and the Entity Framework.
Join this interactive discussion to share your experience of improving the structure and quality of your software architecture and code, and to discuss how to avoid common pitfalls of applying frameworks to .NET software development.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
