Evaluation on my Veganism Work, talking about my research methods, feedback, my pieces of work as a whole & the technical and creative abilities in my work.
2. Work Style Evaluation
⢠For my piece of work, I had to create & produce a 12 page
leaflet/booklet about Veganism. This was an interesting topic to
cover as it is not very well known to many people & it is also a very
strong topic. For my project, I had to generate & create an info
graphic, fact file & a 4 page multi â page article in my booklet, as
well as filling in the other pages with other Vegan related topics. I
worked very hard to create good research so that I could have a
good idea of where I was going with my project, & as soon as I
started to generate my work, I realised there was small things which
would be needed to be added in such as a colour scheme, and
layouts, so that the work is consistent. I managed to create pieces
of work which were similar and worked together when I put them
into my leaflet, then I put my work when it was finished into
Photoshop InDesign so I could lay them out so when they are
printed the pages would be in the right order. I also added my work
into a PowerPoint document in the correct order so that I could
post it onto my Veganuary Blog so that I could get feedback from
peers. I have also generated a survey which will help me gain
feedback from external sources which is added onto the bottom of
the blog post.
4. ⢠In my planning for my Veganuary project, I
had to some research before I could start
doing the project itself. I started off by
generate some ideas of what I can do in a
mind map. I first started by creating a
simple mind map, which stated certain
aspects on what things I could do for each
piece of work. I then further developed
and added onto that draft of my mind
map, adding details of what kind of things
I can look at & different elements I can
change and experiment with when
producing my work. My mind map helped
me a lot in terms of deciding how I
wanted to make my leaflet as I referred
back to each time I was struggling for
ideas. It would have been better and
helped me a lot more if I had created a
secondary mind map which I could
compare to the first, so that I would have
a bigger variety in what kind of things I
would like to have in my leaflet. It would
also help in terms of design work for my
pieces of work.

5. ⢠I started off doing some basic research into
existing products and information which could
help me get more knowledge about Veganism. I
first started off doing some research on the
Veganuary website, where I did further in depth
research into mini topics. They included
celebrities, foods and recipes, myths, products,
substitutes, eating as a vegan, environment,
benefits, shopping and much more. When I was
doing my research on the Veganuary website, I
made notes down of what I was looking at, talked
about them with a summary & also saved the link
so that I can refer back to them when creating my
leaflet. I had covered a wide variety of
information so that I would gain enough
information to be able to right a full article about
veganism on a topic of my choice. I also saved
images to the topics I was making notes on so
that I can reference back to that topic and
understand what I mean. It also helped me decide
what kind of images I wanted to use within my
leaflet as well as I get a bigger insight on what
kind of vegan foods there are & other things.

6. ⢠My info graphic compared a professional one is much
different. Instead of going for a simplistic approach like I
have, this helps them create a design which works for a
niche audience. They have looked at their work and
chosen a certain colour scheme so that they can contrast
the info graphics, so it looks appealing to the viewer. They
have also done rotoscoping around their characters and
images from the games and movies, whereas mine are
roto scopes of animals and shapes which are also real.
There info graphic has much more information used as
well as corresponding images to illustrate these facts,
where as mine is a very small info graphic. In terms of
feedback from my peers, they all said that my info graphic
is strong due to being simple and having light, vibrant
colours. Some of the responses thought that this was my
strongest piece of work that I made. There was also a
couple of recommendations for improvement by adding
more info graphics and facts to it, so there is less negative
space, and also adding titles to help define what the piece
of work is.

Fact File
⢠With my fact file, I first did some research into interesting facts about
vegans & I listed them into a document for future reference. Some of the
facts I got I used in my info graphics, and then I used the rest (and
researched for more at the same time) in my fact file. My fact file
compared to professional fact file created for schools is similar In certain
aspects. Some of the aesthetic qualities that I have, the professional fact
file also has. This includes the image design of rotoscoping and making the
images not look too realistic, plus having a bright colour scheme with it.
They also have images relating to the country that they are talking about
in their fact file, similar to my images which represent and reinforce the
facts I have used. Some of the feedback that I have got states that my fact
file could use some improvements in terms to being compared with my
info graphic. I have responses which talk about how my fact file could use
a different graphics style compared to my info graphics style, and use a
the same font on the page next to this as it would keep a nice flow with
the pages. I would agree that these changes can affect how the page
would look & may very well improve itâs aesthetic qualities. I also have
some positive feedback about the fact file stating that the graphics help
explain my facts, and the text is bold making it easy to read & stand out.
This clashes with my negative feedback for my work as I have responses
which both target the font, meaning I would either have to keep or
change my font depending on what works better with the rest of the
graphics. If I was to do my fact file again I would consider using different
fonts, colours and style to improve it. Based on my feedback this seems
the best possible action I can take to improve. Not only that, I would like
to see what it would look like with a much different font and different
colours, as it would contrast much more.

Article
⢠For my article, I decided that I was going to touch down on certain topics
within the article itself. These included from celebrities, to health
awareness, diets, what being vegan is & means, and food substitutes. I
chose to cover a variety of topics so that my article was not all about one
thing, as this may seem to make the readers bored & grow tiresome of my
article. I kept my colour scheme throughout my article, so that the leaflet
is all symmetrical with colours, although instead of using rotoscoped
images, I used normal photographs to illustrate certain points in my
article, & it would also help break down some text. My article compared
to a professional article has a lot of differences, as well as some minor
similarities. This article in the leaflet here is about films & what times they
will be showing. They have a nice layout with bright, contrasting colours,
as well as having their article covering 3 pages. Comparing this to my
article, their layout is slightly neater as they have more images and they
have thought about dividing each little paragraph up from each other with
a white dotted line. It has a similar art style as they have also used normal
photographs on a plain background, which helps contrast against all of the
text. They have also gone for a different approach with bright text to help
contrast on the background, but not only that, they have also got the title
in bold in bright yellow to stand out against anything else, informing the
consumer. Some of the feedback that I received about my article stated
that I could improve certain things. A few of these things included moving
things around and changing font sizes as it looks too crowded, maybe
shortening it down a little as it can drag on at times, also consider to add
more information in as it skips from part to part quite quickly, & change
the colour layout on this piece. If I was to re-do this piece of work to
improve it I wonder consider all of these facts while doing it as it very well
may help me to improve amd also help change it in slights.
9. Preparation
⢠In terms of preparation, I decided that I wanted to do some research into the
Veganuary website, not only to get a better understanding about Vegans but to
get general information which would help me with my project. I also chose to
make mind maps, mapping out what kind of things and information I should
include within different pieces of work to go into my leaflet. This allowed me
to have a base to work from as I built up my pieces of work. This would then
help me in the future to look back on what kind of ideas I would of liked to
work on, and develop my final intentions from there onwards. I also decided to
look at colour schemes, one being dark and one being light, so that I can have
a specific set colour scheme throughout the leaflet. I have had feedback about
my colours throughout my booklet though, saying that some of them donât
work together with text, certain pieces of graphics and other colours. The
feedback states that my colours are not consistent throughout the booklet,
and that I could change them to improve how it would look. If I had also
created a time schedule for my project then I would have been able to work to
a specific set time to complete certain pieces of work. This would then allow
me to go back and change any pieces of my work which I think could be
improved depending on the feedback that I had received, and how much extra
time I would have had at the end of my project.
10. Time Management
⢠With my time management on this project, I managed to keep on
top of where I needed to be. Usually I would create a schedule of
what timings on which days I will be working on which pieces of
work, But this time I didnât make one as I forgot to make one. As of
this I managed to lose some time by debating what pieces of work
needed more time spent on them to get them finished which
resulted in me getting enticed with one piece of work rather than
spreading my time over all of my work. I could of easily improved by
making a small time schedule which I could follow when doing my
work so that I would not get confused of where I was. It would also
help me date back to anything that I am missing or if there was a
specific piece of work which had little elements of it which were
different than I thought I would be doing them. I still managed to
finish my project on time & to a good standard. I tried my best to
not lose track of time, but it would have been a lot more easier for
me to of planned a schedule timing sheet to keep me on track.
11. Work in Progress
⢠During my time doing my veganism project, I made saved drafts as I slowly progressed to the
finished pieces. This means I had work in progress that I can look back on, refer to & look to
improve. With my drafts, I manage to keep track of where I am at & what I did last to my work.
This would not only help me, but it also allows me to look back at the differences that I have
made to certain pieces. This would also tie into professional companies as they will tend to make
drafts of products before they make them, which they will find or want to change certain things
about them before they fully make the product. This can also help with certain products
depending what they are. For example, some video games will create their games with their
original intentions which would be Pre-Alpha version, but soon after they may release
something called âAlpha Versionâ which is the very basic of the completed game. This then allows
consumers to play, find out what will work in the game, things which donât work, things they
donât like & what kind of things they would like added into the game. This would then come
back to the producers as feedback, allowing them to make changes and add or take away certain
features. Usually once this happens, the producers will re-release the game in âBeta Versionâ
which can be open or closed depending on what kind of rules are set by producers. An example
would be the Halo 5 Beta, it was only available free to customers who owned Halo: The Master
Chief Collection for the Xbox One. Beta it is the same but has all of the minor and major
differences from feedback. This can also include some changes to the games mechanics & how it
runs depending if the producers choose to do that. This will then allow the audience be able to
play once more, giving them feedback on the game. This will happen with major companies
which have a popular franchise so that they can make the game more suited to their audience so
that they gain more sales. Compared to my work, the feedback can be similar from my drafts
compared to professional ones, but their drafts will have major changes to the first one, which
can change the whole thing entirely, whereas mine may just be minor adjustments to improve
how it looks.
12. Technical Competencies
⢠Most of my work has a lot of technical elements within them.
A good example of this would be my info graphic. My info
graphic has multiple technical elements within it. The way I
have chosen to position my images with the text is one of
them, so that the text has an illustration to help reinforce the
fact. The gradient which I have added onto my image of
âIndiaâ and my raw meat are also factors of technical
competencies. The shapes and gradients I have used are also
another factor as I have used different techniques to create.
On some of my other pages such as my article, recipes page,
fact file and more, I have a certain design and layout, which
will also fall into the technical side of things. Another good
example would be the way I have added a gradient on my
fact file page onto the earth to reinforce the fact that I have
used. Having all of my work and rotoscoped images all layed
out in a specific way is what makes the technical side of my
work. In comparison to professional work, they have thought
about layout and appropriate use of pull quotes within their
articles. The placement of imagery and anchoring it with text
helps give the article a good look to it and entices the reader
to continue reading. The text is layered into a column and
then 3 separate paragraphs, which looks more appealing
rather than a massive chunk of text. If I was to redesign my
work I would consider using a specific layout on my work so
that it is consistent throughout, makes it easy for the reader
to read & understand, and have appropriate imagery which
compliments the text & looks appealing to the reader.
13. Creative Abilities
⢠My work shows a lot of creative ability that I have. Some of
the images that I have created using the roto scoping
technique can support my creative abilities. I have
managed to create multiple pieces of artwork such as a
sheep, planets, pieces of meat, animals, foods and nature.
Each one is significantly different from different colours I
have gone for, and only a few of them have a stroke. I think
that the majority of my shapes are all quite unique as they
all have different visual styles on each one. In comparison
to professional work, my info graphic has a similar style to a
professional one. This is due to them trying to use normal
images which have little changes on them where as mine
are roto scoped. As my images are all roto scoped, some of
them may not always look like their normal image, but they
have a nice design to them. Professional info graphics will
do the same technique so that they may express the point
they are trying to get across easier. They also may use
cartoony effects to make normal images look slightly
different and create a different effect on the reader with
these images. This can also make it look good as it is easier
to define what the images are and what they are
representing.
14. Finished Product
⢠Overall, my finished product is very well made in my opinion. I have managed to create and
generate pieces of work in my leaflet which are made by myself, including my info graphic, article,
fact file and other pages. I have also referenced to the Veganuary website in my leaflet a lot, which
helps promote awareness and may also influence growth for the company. With the design work
that I have created, I think that some of it would be better if I spent more time on it, or do some
improvements to change certain things about it. I also think that my choices of colour throughout
my booklet affects how well it works together as a whole piece. I had a lot of feedback referencing
towards improvements on minor things such as my font choices. Compared to a professional
leaflet, I would say mine is not quite as good as I donât have as much time to make it as they would
have. Although from that, I managed to stick to my deadline with it & finish it. I also think that I
utilised my time well during my project as managed to spend an equal amount of time on each
piece of work I created, which allowed me to finish all of them together before the deadline. I feel
as though if I had made a schedule for my timings I would have been able to progressively see
where I should be aiming to be when at certain times. From the feedback that I had received from
people, it turns out that their favourite piece of work I created was my info graphic due to itâs
simplistic design and how well it fits together. There were comments saying that it could be
improved by adding more info graphics to it, as there was only a few. I also had feedback which
wasnât so great on some of my work including the multi page article and the fact file, which were
talking about my font choices, some of the colours and the graphics for my fact file (as I made
images to reinforce the facts). This means if I had another chance to re visit the project or even do
it again, I would consider heavily the fact that a different font would be better to use as some
people donât like it and may struggle to read it, as well as keeping the fact in mind of adding more
work and changing some of my design work to my project.
