Discussion materials for Internet of Things and Smart Cities - Vespucci 2016 ...SensorUp
This is a presentation file prepared for the Vespucci Summer Institute 2016 Week 2. It serves as the introductory material for discussions. It covers the introduction of the Internet of Things, smart cities, what do we mean by "smart" cities, and finally touched on the topic of startups for the IoT field.
How the evolution of technology enables innovation with the Internet of Things, market opportunity, what does the development cycle looks like and what are the considerations for innovators when building IoT products. Presented at Watermark's Innovation Conference 2016.

Slides from a DataKRK meetup which took place at Pauza In-Garden, Kraków, Poland on January 30th, 2017. We talked about some basic concepts of voice biometrics and challenges that may be encounter during development of a voice verification system. Thanks everyone for coming!
This presentation is based upon the algorithm use in the face and voice detection to help in Biometric process evaluation. We have been researching this topic and could conclude many important aspects which could help readers.
Your existing voice recording infrastructure and metadata can be used in the battle against fraud and to protect your contact center. NICE Systems will show you how existing call recording, call monitoring and analytic fabrics can be leveraged to build the voice prints that become the foundation for voice-based authentication and fraudster detection, as well as how to operationalize voice biometrics to achieve real business value and a compelling ROI. -- Elad Hoffman, Real Time Authentication Solution Manager, NICE Systems

Mobile Usage In Australia: A Sensis PerspectiveLisa Collins
Sensis’ experience of its successful foray into the mobile space was presented at the recent Digitech conference in Sydney. Mobile’s unique ability to connect businesses with consumers has been expounded upon frequently over the past few years, but it’s really in 2012 that we’re finally seeing the much heralded tipping point in terms of usage. Sensis’ mobile portfolio continues to see outstanding growth and in May 2010 it saw 3 million visits during the course of the month.

Through a study conducted by Netquest to its panelists, we developed an initial hypothetical approach regarding their navigation; “People perform quite badly when remembering and evaluating their online activities. In particular, the survey questions that involve remembering past activities are difficult to answer because of the limitations of human memory.”
The results obtained from the approach of 3 key questions left us surprised with how bad panelist memory really is!
This presentation forms part of the online Festival of NewMR webinar series. Presented by Gil Oliveira and Benet Boix from Netquest.
Usability vs. Security: Find the Right Balance in Mobile AppsJosiah Renaudin
Successful mobile apps have two key features: a great user experience and the ability to protect users’ data. Balancing user experience and security—a key aspect of product design and engineering—requires a multidisciplinary approach. According to Levent Gurses, a well-balanced app is designed through a series of informed decisions, meaningful compromises, and research that supports core user behaviors. Based on lessons learned from designing winning mobile apps and securing front- and back-end infrastructure, Levent shares his method for scientifically discovering the most critical aspects of an app and creating user-centric, secure mobile experiences. Join Levent for an interactive session on how to create both the best possible user experience and an app that keeps its users’ data safe and secure. He demonstrates core concepts by borrowing from proven UX design patterns and discovering what drives engagement and data protection. Levent uses the latest science in user behavioral research and cyber analytics to discover pragmatic ways to create engaging and secure mobile apps.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
