This document provides ideas for how to use Google Maps in the English classroom, including mapping author biographies, narratives, issues, and genres to give students alternative presentations to PowerPoint. 6. Sign up for a Google Account

7. View the test map www.bit.ly/vate09

8. Save map to “my maps”

9. Add a placemark to the map

10. Add information to the placemark Click “Rich Text” if you want full editing toolbar

12. Add a picture to the placemark Click on the image icon

13. Add a picture to the placemark Paste in the image location. Right click and select ‘Paste’

14. Once you have clicked “done”, your image will appear like this. Use this information to see by whom and when the information has been created.

15. Share the map Copy this link and share with your group. Use an url shortening service like bit.ly to make the link shorter
