Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

3. Valentine's Day, or St Valentine's Day, is celebrated every year on 14 th February .
4. It's the day when people show their affection for another person (or people!) by sending anonymous cards, flowers or chocolates with messages of love .
5.
6.
7. The day gets its name from a famous saint , but there are several stories of who he was.
8. The most popular belief about St Valentine is that he was a priest from Rome in the third century AD.
9. Emperor Claudius II had banned marriage because he thought married men were bad soldiers. Valentine thought this was unfair , so he broke the rules and secretly arranged marriages.
10. When Claudius found out, Valentine was sentenced to death and thrown in jail. There, he fell in love with the jailor's blind daughter.
11. The story says his love and belief in God cured her blindness, and when he was taken to be killed on 14 th February he sent her a love letter signed "from your Valentine” .
12.
13. The first Valentine message (apart from the one St Valentine wrote himself!) is thought to be a poem from Charles, Duke of Orleans, to his wife in 1415.
14. He was captured at the Battle of Agincourt and was imprisoned in the Tower of London to await execution.
15. But Valentine's Day didn't become popular in the UK until the 17 th Century. By the 18 th Century it was traditional for people to swap handwritten messages of affection.
16. Printed cards soon replaced these, making it easier for people to say "I love you" secretly.
17.
18. Valentine's Day is a very old tradition, thought to have originated from a pagan fertility festival.
19. The Romans had a festival called Lupercalia in the middle of February, officially the start of their springtime.
20. As part of the celebrations, boys drew names of girls from a box. They'd be boyfriend and girlfriend during the festival and sometimes they would even get married !
21. The Christian church decided to turn this festival into a Christian celebration and decided to use it to remember the death of St Valentine, too.
22. Gradually, St Valentine's name started to be used by people to express their feelings to those they loved.
23.
24. Nowadays, Valentine's Day is massive, with celebrations of love worldwide from India to Iceland.
25. But it's not just about sending messages to people you love… … you can also just say you care !
26. In the UK, a massive amount of money is spent on what some say is the most romantic day of the year: seven million red roses are sent £22 million spent on flowers 12 million cards are sent …
27. In 2001, text messaging exploded, with around 30 million WUBMV messages sent! WUBMV = W ill yo U B e M y V alentine
28.
29. So, have a happy Valentine's Day but remember: don't feel left out if you don't get a card - it's the giving that counts!
