Contingency analysis is a well-known function in modern Energy Management Systems. Contingency Analysis of a power system is a major activity in power system
planning and operation. In general, an outage of one transmission line or transformer may lead to overloads in other branches and/or sudden system voltage
rise or drop. Contingency analysis is used to calculate violations.
Eigen value analysis:
Increasingly, the investigation of the small-signal stability of power systems is considered an important task, complementary to the usual
transient stability investigations. To study the small-signal stability of a power system, eigenvalue analysis is used. In the power systems area,
studying eigenvalues does not have a history as long as that of transient stability analysis and the results are difficult to verify
experimentally. It is therefore important to study the capabilities of a power system dynamics simulation software package used for
small-signal stability analysis carefully, before applying it to practical problems. In this paper, the eigenvalue analysis capabilities
of two power system dynamics simulation software packages are analysed and the results are compared.

This summer a pioneering energy system was put into service at Owen Square, Bristol. Solar panels on the top of Easton Community Centre are used extract heat from the air using an air source heat pump, pass it through the ground and store it as heat in the soil. The heat is stored in pipes in Owen Square and radiated through the soil before other pipes pump the heat back into the community centre through water.

In the conventional method, you write the question paper on paper, keep question papers separate from answers and all this information you have to keep in a locker to avoid unauthorized access. Using the Examination System you can create a question paper and everything will be written to a single exam file in encrypted format. You can set the General and Administrator password to avoid unauthorized access to your question paper. Every time you start the examination, the program shuffles all the questions and selects them randomly from the database, which reduces the chances of memorizing the questions.

CHALLENGE:
• The mine currently uses 100 hp (75 kW) motors with soft starters
for the ventilation fans and blowers that provide air to the miles
of underground tunnels and roads that form the mine.
• Powering the motors is costly because energy is very
expensive when hydropower is not available, and this depends
on the annual rainfall. Some years hydropower is available for
seven months and other years only one month.
• Hydropower is delivered via dozens of miles of cables and
costs the mine USD 0.10 (EUR 0.08) /kWh. When hydropower
is not available, the mine has to use local power generated by
diesel generators.

SOLUTION:
• Variable speed AC drives (VFDs) are great
energy savers when used with fans
because of the affinity laws.
• When the first VACON NXS drive was
installed on a test fan, this resulted in
energy savings of 33 kWh an hour! That
translates into annual savings of USD
100,000 (EUR 77,369) for generator power
or USD 28,000 (EUR 21,663) for
hydropower, and that is just for one fan.

• With these favorable results from the test fan, approval was
obtained to install VACON AC drives on a large number of the
ventilation fans and blowers in the mine.
• The estimated annual energy cost savings to the mine will
be considerable – and could be enormous, depending on
the power rate they are paying, with the added bonus of an
improved power factor.
