Software Architecture in Process Automation: UML & the "Smart Factory"Heiko Koziolek
Distributed control systems are currently evolving towards Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) systems. Still, they still suffer from complex commissioning processes that incur high costs. Researchers have proposed several so-called ''Plug and Produce'' (PnP) approaches, where commissioning shall be largely automated, but they have suffered from semantic ambiguities and usually rely on proprietary information models. We propose a novel reference architecture for PnP in IIoT systems, which is based on OPC UA and PLCopen standards and can reduce industrial device commissioning times across vendor products to a few seconds. Our proof-of-concept implementation can handle more than 500 signals per millisecond during runtime, sufficient for most application scenarios.

The EDIHs will work with existing DIHs and form a network of up to 200 hubs to provide expertise on technologies like AI, HPC, and cybersecurity. The network will be coordinated by a Digital Transformation Accelerator to facilitate collaboration, training, and sharing of best practices among the DIHs.
The MIDIH project is a 36-month, €7.9 million effort coordinated by EIT Digital to support manufacturing SMEs' digital transformation through a network of digital innovation hubs, competency centers, and didactic factories across 12 European countries. The hubs provide services, technologies, skills training and an open source reference architecture to help SMEs implement digital platforms and pilots. MIDIH also developed a 6P migration methodology to help SMEs adopt new skills and jobs and established a data sovereignty framework to facilitate cross-border collaboration on its platforms.
The document summarizes a project between Linz Center of Mechatronics (LCM) and CEMTEC to integrate a cement plant pilot ball mill circuit with the FIWARE platform. The project involves setting up the FIWARE platform and integrating the pilot plant to acquire process data over several months. Data will then be analyzed and used to develop a theoretical and data-based process model in the form of an expert system. Key performance indicators and next steps are outlined. The overall goals are to demonstrate information exchange between plant sensors, PLCs and FIWARE, integrate plant data in the cloud, and visualize the data to help CEMTEC and LCM in process optimization and control.

Suzanne Lagerweij - Influence Without Power - Why Empathy is Your Best Friend...Suzanne Lagerweij
This is a workshop about communication and collaboration. We will experience how we can analyze the reasons for resistance to change (exercise 1) and practice how to improve our conversation style and be more in control and effective in the way we communicate (exercise 2).
This session will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
Abstract:
Let’s talk about powerful conversations! We all know how to lead a constructive conversation, right? Then why is it so difficult to have those conversations with people at work, especially those in powerful positions that show resistance to change?
Learning to control and direct conversations takes understanding and practice.
We can combine our innate empathy with our analytical skills to gain a deeper understanding of complex situations at work. Join this session to learn how to prepare for difficult conversations and how to improve our agile conversations in order to be more influential without power. We will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
In the session you will experience how preparing and reflecting on your conversation can help you be more influential at work. You will learn how to communicate more effectively with the people needed to achieve positive change. You will leave with a self-revised version of a difficult conversation and a practical model to use when you get back to work.
Come learn more on how to become a real influencer!

5. AS-IS SCENARIO
The process of starting-up a chemical reactor in a chemical
industry is a very complex and rarely performed task. Since this
process is carried out once or twice a year the costs of having
people trained in such a sensitive process are high. It is also very
risky to rely on a single expert or a set of notes in a confusing
and complex document. Using a training program like V-TREV
would increase the employee’s safety in this process.
Training of the personnel is based on PowerPoint presentations.
Process, actions and expected results are documented as a
procedure of sequential actions/checks to be performed,
arranged by each system involved in the reactor start-up.
Currently, the trainee’s performance is not being assessed –
employees are expected to “learn” all the information from
reading these PowerPoint presentations, without any kind of test
or evaluation process.
7. TO-BE SCENARIO
Our solution proposes a new training system by means of Virtual
Reality. With this solution the personnel is trained in an interactive
and progressive way which can be assessed and analyzed.
V-TREV'S functionalities include:
Virtual training, simulating a real scenario. The interactions with the
different elements will feel familiar to the trainees, in order to make
them easier to retain important information.
Ability of simulating fault cases. These scenarios will put the
employees in situations that could be harmful in real life, preparing
them for them and making them more self-confident should these
situations occur.
Real time-data streaming. This data will be evaluated by an external
system asynchronously to the training process. This functionality is
strongly supported by MIDIH Reference Architecture components.

V-TREV addresses a common challenge in on-site training of workers in
the industrial sector by easing the training in technical processes and
providing real-time evaluation of the trainee performance.
So far, 5 entities from very different sectors (chemistry, agri-food, logistics,
and fire extinguishing) have shown their commercial interest in the
application of V-TREV results in their training processes.
IZERTIS truly believes that this technology can make a big difference in the
training process, and thus will keep carrying out dissemination and
exploitation activities even after project completion.
As a result, it is expected that the revenues of the Digital Area, which is the
area involved in V-TREV development, will be increased by 2% in the next
three years.
