This 12th edition describes annual findings from the NMC Horizon Project, an ongoing research project designed to identify and describe emerging technologies likely to have an impact on learning, teaching, and creative inquiry in education. Six key trends, six significant challenges, and six important developments in educational technology are identified across three adoption horizons over the next one to five years, giving campus leaders and practitioners a valuable guide for strategic technology planning. The report aims to provide these leaders with more in-depth insight into how the trends and challenges are accelerating and impeding the adoption of educational technology, along with their implications for policy, leadership and practice. Flat Students - Flat Learning - Global UnderstandingJulie Lindsay
Many educators are now joining themselves, their students and schools to others across the globe. We all know that global collaboration, the sort that includes full connectivity and collaboration that leads to co-creation of artifacts and actions is not easy and takes time to plan, implement and manage. However, let’s think out of the box even further and start to promote and support independent student learning at the Middle and High School levels. Once the teacher is not the gateway (or the barrier) to global learning, then what?
The ‘flat’ student has a PLN and PLC’s to connect with at anytime. The ‘flat’ student can learn (connect, collaborate, co-create, take action) anywhere at anytime without constraints.
Join Julie as she explores this concept and practice of independent ‘flat’ student learning for global understanding and collaborative actions. Flat Connections projects will be featured as well as the new ‘Learning Collaboratives’ to start in 2015. If you want to take your global learning to a higher level, this is the session to attend!

Educational Research and Innovation. The OECD Handbook for Innovative Learning Environments .
Over the last decade, the OECD region has seen a 20 percent rise in spending per school
student but yet little significant improvement in learning outcomes. When other sectors
see flat-lining productivity they look to innovation. In many fields, people enter their
professional lives expecting their practice to be transformed by innovation. This is still
not widespread in education. When the OECD conducted its first international survey
of teachers, teaching and learning (TALIS), an average of only just over a quarter of
teachers responded that more innovation in their teaching would be valued, never mind
rewarded, in their schools.
Report ICDE : Quality models in online and open education around the globe: S...eraser Juan José Calderón
The International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) has published the report "Quality models in online and open education around the globe: State of the art and recommendations", a must read for any person concerned with quality in online, open and flexible higher education.
With the Global Education 2030 agenda in mind, the new ICDE report addresses new needs such as quality in MOOCs and Open Education Resources. It also shows that one size does not fit all; that improving quality of student experiences is more than ever extremely important, and it warns against implementation of quality models that restrict innovation and change.
Calling for an Educational Revolution: For the sustainable future we wanticdeslides
This speech will after a brief introduction of ICDE, give a rough picture on how South Africa is seen from the outside – through a number of indicators, then I will outline those trends that ICDE observes as important for educational development, in particular higher education, the next years. Next will be to summarize how the new SDGs address education as a priority for achieving the future we want, including indicating state of play, based on the recent Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report by UNESCO. Quality education is a key for Education 2030 – and initiatives relevant for higher education that will be rolled out by UNESCO and ICDE will be discussed. Finally, the key messages based on this overview will be summarized:
A call for an Educational Revolution for the sustainable future we want
• Quality first: quality digital, open and flexible education
• Collaboration: on all levels, on content, courses programmes, methodologies, infrastructure, internationalisation….
• Take leadership for change: for the future we want – lead educational transformation

Open cross institutional academic cpd: unlocking the potential Sue Beckingham

Redecker et al (2011, 9) note that “The overall vision is that personalisation, collaboration and informalisation (informal learning) will be at the core of learning in the future. “ Our world is changing rapidly. Educators need to quickly adapt and change and develop new learning and teaching strategies that are fit for our times. Informal networks and open development opportunities enabled and extended through digital technologies are valuable to connect with other practitioners, share practices, support each other and innovate in collaboration with others within and beyond their own institutions.
Seely Brown (2012, 14) talked about the “Big Shift” driven by “digital innovation” and characterised by “exponential change and emergence, socially and culturally”. Can we afford to stay where we are and do what we always did? Or is there a need for academic development to maximise on opportunities to remain current, innovate but also model flexible, forward facing and sustainable practices which connect, engage and have the potential to transform practices and enhance the student experience. The European Commission(2013) calls institutions to join-up and open-up. Could this be a sustainable solution for academic CPD?
Bring Your Own Devices for Learning (BYOD4L) is an open development opportunity for educators and students, developed by academic developers in two institutions. It builds on open learning ecologies (Jackson, 2013), the concept of lifewide learning (Jackson, 2014) and the ethos of sharing, collaboration and co-creation of pedagogical interventions and collective innovation within a supportive community enabled through social media. BYOD4L brought individuals together to learn how they can use their smart devices for learning through reflection and active experimentation. BYOD4L has been offered twice so far, initially with a group of distributed facilitators and then with five participating institutions. Expectations and value of BYOD4L from both iterations will be shared with delegates. The open CPD framework developed maximised on the expertise and the resources available by the community and participating individuals and institutions and created a rich and diverse and multimodal learning ecology. This is the approach adopted in BYOD4L. Does the open cross-institutional CPD framework developed present an attractive solution for institutions more widely that has the potential to normalise the use of technology for learning?

VRARA Global Summit 2020. Special VRAR Track XR in Education, presented by Carlos J. Ochoa. Panel presentation "XRinEducation" about the new scenarios all around the world in a COVID environment.
Most governments around the world have temporarily closed educational institutions in an attempt to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
These nationwide closures are impacting over 91% of the world’s student population. Several other countries have implemented localized closures impacting millions of additional learners.
The figures of the crisis in education are dramatic: 1,579,634,506 affected learners, 90.2% of total enrolled learners, 191 country-wide closures.
The worst that this situation entails is an unwanted effect: the widening of the digital divide that already exist in education.
In less than one month, almost the global educational community has been closed all around the globe. And teachers, students and parents have been to face with a new unknown and unpredictable situation. No rules, no methodology, connectivity, pc´s or tablets available for all…on-line platforms…and they, all together with public and private institutions, were looking for solutions to implement in an equality and safety environment. Many “futuristics” are talking about unrealistic scenarios and solutions that are far away to provide real solutions for a dramatic real-life situation. We cannot and should not allow these solutions to be trivialized. We are talking about our future and the future of our children and citizens.
On-line learning, blended learning, virtual learning, immersive learning…future learning…old methods and receipts, already well known for many years, into a new paradigm. It is not the right approach. We can not substitute our presence in the classroom with in a on-line conference or virtual platform, using the same tools and methodologies. With a great question mark around evaluation and what to evaluate.
It is not to include new tools or devices in the existing ecosystem, to reinforce it or support it across the network or virtual platforms, that may or may not conserve the old tools and methodologies. And that’s not an easy task. It was not resolved during the last recent years and we need to accelerate the process right now. It is more like an Impossible Mission, but we need to face with that asap.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
