I did this UX design exercise as a practice about revamping Miriwoong app. Miriwoong, a language is categorised as critically endangered, with fewer than 12 truly fluent speakers remaining.

The User Interface (UI) is everything designed into an information device with which a human being may interact -- including display screen, keyboard, mouse, light pen, the appearance of a desktop, illuminated characters, help messages, and how an application program or a Web site invites interaction and responds to it.

Optimizing Mobile UX Design: Webinar on Mobile User Experience Research Methods & Tools
Most businesses are investing in mobile apps and mobile commerce. Recently, more emphasis has been placed on the interactive experiences users have on mobile devices
To explain how to optimize the user experience on mobile interfaces, UserZoom will be joined by special guest User Centric in a complimentary webinar. The webinar will focus on how user experience research methods and tools can add extremely valuable insights into the design process and help brands optimize their mobile site or application’s performance. Attendees will hear presentations from the following experts:
Gavin Lew, Managing Director, User Centric
Gavin’s 20 years of experience in corporate and academic environments have given him a strong foundation in user-centered design and evaluation. In addition to managing User Centric, he holds particular expertise in mobile technology, among other interests. He is a frequent presenter at national conferences, adjunct faculty member at DePaul University and Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, and the inventor of several patents.
Kim Oslob, UserZoom Director of Client Services
Kim has extensive experience with both qualitative and quantitative UX Research through her work at Claris (now Filemaker), Macromedia (now Adobe) and VistoCorp (now Good). She has managed projects with companies in the mobile space such as Vodafone, Nokia, Sprint, and Roger’s Wireless to improve the user experience of over 10 different mobile operating systems.
These slides cover basic terms and definitions for building eLearning courses. It covers the player elements that you can see within eLearning courses.
Designing and deploying mobile user studies in the wild: a practical guideKaren Church
This tutorial was presented as part of Mobile HCI 2012 in San Francisco on the 19th September 2012. The tutorial aims to provide a practical guide to conduct mobile field studies based on the learning outcomes of the research I've been involved in while working as a Research Scientist in Telefonica Research, Barcelona. I cover how to design effective mobile field studies, the importance of mobile prototyping, the impact of various design choices on the study setup and deployment, how to engage participants and how to avoid ethical and legal issues. I've also tried to include listings of useful resources for those who are interested in conducting mobile field studies of their own.

Design, Development, and Empowerment: My Experiences of Coaching a Best-in-Na...Yu-Chang Hsu
During the presentation, I will share how I supported a national-winning team of middle
school students to develop their STEM-related mobile app through on-site training and
other virtual scaffolding mechanism. I will discuss the tips, challenges, and lessons
learned based on my reflection as a computing educator. This presentation should provide
practical information that can be applied to other contexts of computing education as it
involves various aspects that are commonly relevant, such as project management,
communication, and technical consideration during app development. I hope my sharing
of the rewarding experiences with the community can help encourage more quality
educators and App Inventor enthusiasts to consider applying to join App Inventor
Training Corp. (AITC), and serve the common goals of contributing to computing
education through this venue. (Learn more about: 2014 Verizon Innovative App

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.
You could be a professional graphic designer and still make mistakes. There is always the possibility of human error. On the other hand if you’re not a designer, the chances of making some common graphic design mistakes are even higher. Because you don’t know what you don’t know. That’s where this blog comes in. To make your job easier and help you create better designs, we have put together a list of common graphic design mistakes that you need to avoid.

6. Define
Design process
User needs
➔ Preserve endangered
Miriwoong heritage by
educating the public to
Miriwoong language
User Goal
➔ Learn Miriwoong language
effectively
Assumptions
➔ Assume that user likes to
know their learning progress
by tracking their scorings
➔ Assume that user uses app at
some fixed timings
Eg. commutes time
➔ Assume that user learns
better in smaller content size
➔ Assume that user relies the
app to learn the basics only
Constraints
➔ Design for native app
➔ Limited to internet access
hence need to have
◆ offline support
◆ syncing mechanism

9. UI block for content
downloading
App Review
“Wait what? I need to stuck here
waiting for the downloading?”
All of the users complained about the waiting time up to 5-10
seconds when they installed the app
“Is there really any new content
every time I open the app?”
The constant blocking at splash screen left a bad
impression to the users. They were getting more and more
impatient for the wait.
10. Confusing main sections
App Review
“Should I ‘explore’ or ‘learn’ first?”
Some of the users were unsure where should they start from
when they were requested to learn 5 new Miriwoong words.
“It’s like a common phrases
inception”
Users found that the screens are the similar even though
they were in different sections. Some of the users forgot
which sections they were in when they navigated in and out
of the sections. Common phrases were repeated in 3 places
and users wondered what’s the purpose of it.
11. Gamification model
App review
“This is quite difficult to play”
There was no progress bar to indicate the game progress
and only 1 user made it to the end of game (of that section)
after a long time tryings.
If user answers questions wrongly three times, user is exited
from the game. This does not encourage user in learning
Miriwoong.
12. Long and unintuitive
copytext
App review
“I wish I know this from the other
page”
½ users made the effort of browsing the subsections and
scanned the content. Most of them commented on the long
texts and some wished that the useful explanations should
have been displayed more intuitively in visual on the
respective pages.
Example: ‘Also’ in the word detail page represents feminine
or other different spellings for the same meaning of word.
13. Workshop
Three day on-site workshop was held with key stakeholders to
come to a common understanding of the problem, reach
alignment on vision for the solution, and begin prioritizing the
challenges to address.
User Interviews
Interviews were conducted with internal users and onsite
visits were conducted with customers to uncover pain points,
workflows, workarounds, and opportunities. By speaking with
users, we were able to more deeply understand what should
form the basis of the solution.
Roadmap Planning
Based on learnings about the business and its goals, we
outlined a high-level plan for executing the solution. To
support ongoing efforts and allow for responsiveness to
learnings, the approach is to release in iterations.

Background

Any loading indicator should not block user

downloaded at the background to avoid
any disruption.
Native App
Current app uses Phonegap framework
which never really produce high-quality as
the native app. Scrollings and selections in
current app are often ignored and full of
glitches.
We can use iOS animation to engage users
and this might not be achievable in
Phonegap.
