This study examined the challenges faced by the Pakistani higher education system (HES) in integrating information and communication technology (ICT); it aimed at understanding ICT needs, measuring the increase in ICT demand, determining the relationship between ICT and HES performance, and understanding how the HES copes with the challenges of implementing ICT. The results of these analyses were used as the basis to suggest solutions. The normative Delphi method was applied to evaluate a sample of 30 HES experts randomly selected from urban and rural areas of Pakistan by administering a literature-based 35-item questionnaire. The
experts revealed significant gaps in ICT demand and supply, ICT use, ICT-based higher education problems, and reasons for delays in ICT integration and provided suggestions for developing ICT-driven HES in Pakistan. This
study’s findings suggest that an effective and robust HES ICT policy could greatly improve the status of the Pakistani knowledge-based economy, thus helping establish ICT policy and planning, administration, and integration at the higher education level.

The educational sector has opened opportunities for entrepreneurship. Online learning has become a new trend in the constantly changing world and IT solutions have provided ways for it. Many such promising companies and startups have started coming up and a sector known as EdTech (a combination of education and technology which was made possible with the help of IT solutions) started growing up with billions invested in it around the globe. It is thus one of the fastest-growing sectors as it aims to make education feasible and accessible from any corner of the world. Vocational education as such is gaining more attendance in today’s world as there is a high demand for skilled and specialized people. Governments around the world are hugely investing in the skill development of their citizens. The purpose of this paper is to review the newly formed sector known as EdTech and analyze the role of Information Technology (IT) in creating opportunities for entrepreneurship. Further going on how in return entrepreneurship is transforming education (Sambamurthy, Bharadwaj, & Grover, 2003). A sample of 335 respondents has been surveyed to know the role and significance of information technology in creating Entrepreneurial opportunities in vocational education. Survey method and factor analysis are used to get the results. The study concludes that there are so many significant roles of information technology in creating Entrepreneurial opportunities in vocational education.

Though universities are eager to leverage the potential of mobile learning to provide learning flexibly, most balk at the cost of providing students with mobile hardware. The practice of ‘bring your own device’ (BYOD) is often mooted as a cost-effective alternative. This paper provides a snapshot of student ownership of mobile devices at a regional Australian university. Our research shows that students do have access to and use a wide range of devices. However, the delivery of learning is challenged when students try to access materials and activities using these devices. Course materials are rarely optimised for use on smartphones, navigating websites and learning management systems becomes a scrolling nightmare, and interacting with other students is often impractical using prescribed systems. Most concerning is that none of the students surveyed were participating in educator-led mobile learning initiatives. The paper concludes with the proposal of some practical, low-cost tactics that educators could potentially employ to begin engaging with mobile learning, leveraging what students already do.

This is a presentation I did last week (6/16/16) at the New Media Consortium (NMC) summer conference: The number of ed tech startups and the significant investment in adaptive courseware solutions can remind people of the 1860s gold rush: some prospered, but many failed. In the past two years of developing OpenStax Tutor, the OpenStax team has learned several valuable lessons that can benefit educators, digital courseware providers, and students from making costly miscalculations. Lessons learned and presented are 1) technology with high-quality content and assessment is most valuable; 2) instructor workflow is a highway, not a fork in the road; 3) emergence of data privacy standards can accelerate acceptance of digital courseware; and, 4) it's not about price, it's about value.
