The document discusses SOASTA's Spring Release of their CloudTest product. Some key highlights include new features like network emulation, version control integration, and first class support for the popular open source load testing tool JMeter. It also covers trends around shifting performance testing left into development and right from development into production environments.
Continuous Load Testing with CloudTest and JenkinsSOASTA
Two key challenges to continuous load testing are provisioning a test system to handle the load and accessing load generators to drive the traffic.
In this webinar from SOASTA & CloudBees, you will learn how to:
Build realistic automated web performance tests and run them in Jenkins
Architect and launch a test environment that auto-provisions in the cloud
Manage a load generation grid to drive load tests in a lights-out mode
Establish a performance baseline in your daily Jenkins reports
Version Control in SOASTA 57 Spring Release
Video
“Everything as Code” is a key to moving to DevOps, providing visibility and repeatability in processes. To support this, we added Version Control to the SOASTA 57 Spring release. Come to this webinar to learn how to connect CloudTest to your Git-compatible version control system so you can:
Protect all your test assets as code with version control
Support local and distributed teams with remote access
Track changes to test artifacts, update to newer versions, or revert if needed
With end of year just around the corner, many companies are entering their peak season, whether it's back-to-school, holiday shopping, end-of-year and next year planning.
If you don't know what to test, you might miss key paths through your site and customers might experience poor performance on your web and mobile site and apps. Save yourself multiple headaches and join us to learn not only what to test but how to test your web and mobile performance before your peak demand.
Integrating Cloud-based performance test in VSTS with SOASTA CloudTestJennifer Finney
Being ready for peak traffic requires testing at scale, and there is no better place to do that than from the cloud. Using JMeter Scripts in CloudTest for Continuous TestingJennifer Finney
JMeter is popular with developers for creating tests that can be run easily during development. With the SOASTA CloudTest Spring release, it's easy to run JMeter tests in CloudTest from low-levels during development all the way to full scale load in production, with all of the great CloudTest features. Come learn how easy it is to shift-left and shift-right and make testing continuous.
You’ve worked hard to define, develop and execute a performance test on a new application to determine its behavior under load. You have barrels full of numbers. What’s next? The answer is definitely not to generate and send a canned report from your testing tool. Results interpretation and reporting is where a performance tester earns their stripes.
In the first half of this workshop we’ll start by looking at some results from actual projects and together puzzle out the essential message in each. This will be a highly interactive session where we will display a graph, provide a little context, and ask “what do you see here?” We will form hypotheses, draw tentative conclusions, determine what further information we need to confirm them, and identify key target graphs that give us the best insight on system performance and bottlenecks.
In the second half of this session, we’ll try to codify the analytic steps we went through in the first session, and consider a CAVIAR approach for collecting and evaluating test results: Collecting, Aggregating, Visualizing, Interpreting, Analyzing, And Reporting.

Everyday, emails arrive and clutter your inbox. Communications are easily lost or forgotten as mail piles up. Slack was conceived by Tiny Speck Company, who was searching for a truly efficient method of professional communication. Unlike email, Slack allows team members to share ideas in real time. Chat rooms are “hash-tagged” to specific topics, where everyone can share files and links relevant to the topic. Slack can also host non-employees for collaboration on dedicated projects. Larger corporations will probably shy away from Slack because communication is naturally more relaxed and open. Slack is not a traditional chat room. It’s a multi-platform app, featuring real-time communication, topic search, and file sharing history. Your team can assign unique notifications to any slack room, such as twitter updates or new bug warnings. Reinventing the Modern Information Pipeline: Paxata and MapRLilia Gutnik
(Presented at MapR's Big Data Everywhere event in Redwood City, CA in December 2016)
The relationship between business teams and IT has changed as the complexity of data has increased. A traditional data pipeline designed for an IT-centered approach to information management is not designed for the data demands of today's business decisions. Designing a big data strategy requires modernizing previous approaches. Self-service data preparation in a collaborative, intuitive, governed, and secure environment is the key to a nimble and decisive business unit.
Amazon Web Service and Microsoft Azure are dominating the enterprise public cloud market, but how are they different? Here’s what you need to know.
There are plenty of differences between AWS and Azure, probably too many to mention in a single webinar. AWS and Azure take generally different approaches and offer some unique services. From our experience with enterprise customers, we found that the commoditized services are often the most important ones. Everybody has a solution for security, access and storage, but how are those solutions different? Will mastering one Cloud platform give me the knowledge I need to operate the other?
Join us in our upcoming webinar, all about the differences in some of the public cloud’s most basic (and vital) services. Watch this webinar to learn about:

These slides use concepts from my (Jeff Funk) course entitled Biz Models for Hi-Tech Products to analyze the business model for Slack, a supplier of collaborative tools for teams. These tools offer a new form of mail service that is very different from that of traditional e-mail programs such as Microsoft Outlook, G-Mail, and Yahoo-Mail. Slack designed its mail service for the cloud computing environment, as opposed to the traditional in-house computing environment. Accessing documents from the cloud is easier with Slack’s service than with Microsoft Outlook as is enabling apps for Slack’s service and reading messages. Reading messages is easier because they are organized by person (like instant messaging on smart phones) as opposed to time. By measuring usage, Slack can charge by active user thus reducing the risk of trying Slack, particularly for individuals, who are the main market for Slack. These slides describe the value proposition, customers, method of value capture, scope of activities and the method of strategic control for Slack.
Agile Strategies for Traditional Software Development TeamsTechWell
Many development and test teams are still working on more traditional software projects that release every few months or longer, rather than daily or weekly. Benefits of adopting continuous development strategies into a standard software cycle include immediate feedback on code changes, a clear understanding of the current risk-state of the software, and current and historical data to assess progress. Melanie Drake shares specific “modern” strategies that her development team has added and how these strategies enhance software quality. Some tools include continuous integration to catch build errors; continuous test runs with baseline tests to catch egregious errors; automated tests to free testers to spend more time testing purposefully; and developer-contributed changelist-level tools, which help narrow found problems to specific changes. Processes and tools evolve over time, and you don't have to adopt all strategies at once. Melanie shows how you can adopt strategies piecemeal, as they fit best for your team and your product. In the end, your processes serve you and your product—not the other way around.

This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
