This document discusses Durham University's use of its collections and cultural resources to inspire widening participation in higher education. It notes Durham's Oriental Museum, Castle, Museum of Archaeology, Archives and Special Collections, exhibitions, and art collection which are utilized in both formal and informal learning opportunities onsite, through outreach programs, and online. The importance of these efforts is highlighted by government publications that introduce targets for doubling the percentage of students from disadvantaged backgrounds by 2020 and emphasize the importance of early exposure to higher education.
