2. WHEN NEEDED RATIONALE
USER PROTOTYPE TEST
Checks whether one builds the right ‘it’
before building ‘it’ right
Enables users/experts to interact with
the prototype and give measurable
feedback
Helps to fail fast and cheaply to leave
enough time for a different approach
I want to bring
my concept to
life
I need to test if
my concept
works
– also for others
I want to fail
quickly –
and cheaply

3. ESSENCE POINTERS
USER PROTOTYPE TEST
Share a quick &
dirty mock-up of
the concept with
users/experts – to
fail and improve
Choose the method most fit for the job (Scale
Model, Role Play, Storyboard or a mix) and
create ’low resolution mock-ups’, preferably 2
or 3 versions
Invite users for a ‘test drive’ and create a safe
space where they feel comfortable giving
honest, critical feedback
Encourage users to actively engage, interact
with the prototypes and where possible
actually use it. Observe how they do it, what
they struggle with
Solicit and capture feedback in the 2x2
