Some interesting facts about the poet
His short life of 25 years, Keats published 54 poems
in three novels as well as a few magazines using a
wide range of poetic forms including odes & sonnets
The Great odes
•Ode on Melancholy
•ode on a Grecian Urn
•Ode on Psyche
•Ode to a Nightingale
Main things in Poem
1) The poem explores the wonder of life and death. It
comprises the experience of the poet, his miseries
and poetic imagination. Its popularity lies in the
fact that it represents things related to life, art,
literature, nature and seeks a common
relationship among them.
2) Representative of life and death . The poet very
artistically draws a comparison between nature
and imaginative world, the world of Nightingale.
Use of Myth in the poem
Myth of Philomela
This myth first used by Ovid inhis book book book
book Metamorphosis in part six.
Philomela,sister Procne and
Procne’s husband Tereus.
Tereus likes Philomela and he rapes Philomela, cuts
out her tongue , because she knows the name .
Myth of Dryad
In Greek mythology it means it is a
female spirit attached to tree.
‘Tis not through envy of thy happy lot,
But being too happy in thine happiness
h- That thou, light - winged Dryad of the
trees’
Poet wants to free from societies
bondage.
Myth of Hippocrene
In Greek myth hippocrene
was the name of a spring that
the winged horse pegasus
created by stamping it's hoof
into the ground.
Conclusion :
We know that myth is related to Greek mythology
and in a way of presenting a myth is different in John
Keats poems. Nightingales are known for singing in
the nighttime, hence the name. John Keats written
this poem with his own experiences. He wants to be
free from society boundaries. His odes known for his
own experiences.

  • 4. Main things in Poem 1) The poem explores the wonder of life and death. It comprises the experience of the poet, his miseries and poetic imagination. Its popularity lies in the fact that it represents things related to life, art, literature, nature and seeks a common relationship among them. 2) Representative of life and death . The poet very artistically draws a comparison between nature and imaginative world, the world of Nightingale.
  • 5. Use of Myth in the poem Myth of Philomela This myth first used by Ovid inhis book book book book Metamorphosis in part six. Philomela,sister Procne and Procne’s husband Tereus. Tereus likes Philomela and he rapes Philomela, cuts out her tongue , because she knows the name .
  • 6. Myth of Dryad In Greek mythology it means it is a female spirit attached to tree. ‘Tis not through envy of thy happy lot, But being too happy in thine happiness h- That thou, light - winged Dryad of the trees’ Poet wants to free from societies bondage.
  • 7. Myth of Hippocrene In Greek myth hippocrene was the name of a spring that the winged horse pegasus created by stamping it's hoof into the ground.
  • 8. Conclusion : We know that myth is related to Greek mythology and in a way of presenting a myth is different in John Keats poems. Nightingales are known for singing in the nighttime, hence the name. John Keats written this poem with his own experiences. He wants to be free from society boundaries. His odes known for his own experiences.
