 Understand the fabrication procedure.
History of Amputation
 The word amputation is derived from the Latin amputare,
"to cut away“.
 43,000BC amputation was done with primitive tools
(knife.saw,axe etc)
 Ambroise pare established technical standards for
surgical amputation and develop spinal corset & shoe
modification. (1509-1590)
 Lisfracnc could amputate a foot within 1 minute. (1790-
1847)
 Baron Larrey did 200 amputation on the battlefield in 1
day according to Napoleon Bonaparte. (1800)
 Lord Lister develop antisepsis to reduce high mortality
Causes of Amputation
Peripheral vascular disease (intermittent Claudication ,
Arterioslerosis , Chronic venous insufficiency)
Diabetes
Trauma
Infection
Tumors (Osteosarcoma)
Limb deficiencies
Accessed 02 December 2018<http://bit.do/eCdyc>
Limb deficiencies
Amelia (Absence of whole limb)
Apodia (Absence of hand or foot)
Adactylia (Absence of one or more finger/toes with
meta carpals/tarsals)
Aphalangia (Absence of one or more fingers or
toes)
Phocomelia (Limbs are closer to the trunk and
shorter)

Conclusion
Upper limb amputation is less common than lower
limb amputation. The level of amputation is depend
upon the name of bone and joint where that
happen.A ideal amputation can help a person treat
well in the future by the prosthesis to enhance
rehabilitation
