Mary-Lynn Pell will teach her first grade special education students about the months of the year. Her class has 10 boys and 7 girls, with the majority being white. She will use a song, video, two worksheets and two hands-on activities for students to learn the months. For the activities, she will use materials like markers, construction paper and laminate. She will encourage participation and evaluate students based on their ability to recite the months accurately without help by the end of the month.

Analyze Learners
My learners are first grade special education students. There are ten boys and seven girls in this
class. Seventy percent of the students are white, twenty percent are African American, and ten percent
are Latino. Seven students in my class have mild to severe ADHD (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder).
State Objectives
My first grade students will recite and describe the months of the year through a song, a video,
two worksheets, and two hands-on activities, with one hundred percent accuracy in one month.
Select Methods, Media, and Materials
I will use You Tube to find the song and video, and I will use Google to find the worksheets. I
will brainstorm and use Pinterest in order to develop hands-on activities that will promote learning. For
my hands-on activities I will need markers, construction paper, laminate paper, and paper booklets.
Utilize Media and Materials
•I will play the “Months of the Year Song” (found on YouTube) to my students.
•I will show my students the “Months of the Year Video” by Mr.R's Songs for Teaching, on YouTube.
•I will have my students work on two worksheets (found on Google). The first worksheet comes from
www.worksheetfun.com, and it will have the students put the months of the year in correct order. The
second worksheet comes from www.guruparents.com, and it will require my students to trace the
months of the year, and then rewrite them.
•For the first hands-on activity I will give each student a sheet of laminated paper that has a month

2. written on it (some months will repeat), and I will give my students two minutes to line themselves in
the correct order of the months. Those who have a repeating month will line themselves behind the
other person who has the same month.
•For the second hands-on activity I will hand my students markers and paper booklets
and ask them to make a calendar. They will be asked to decorate each month with things that relate to
that month or season.
Require Learner Participation
I will encourage participation through every activity. I will have my students sit in a circle on the
carpet, and I will play the song and sing along with them, which will encourage everyone to participate.
They will also be encouraged to sing and dance along with the video. With the first hands-on activity,
my students will stand up and each will hold a piece of paper with a month written on it. They will
have the opportunity to communicate with each other to make sure they have the months in the correct
order, before their time is up. The second hands-on activity will allow them to create their own
calendars; they will be able to show what they have learned.
Evaluate and Revise
•I will evaluate my students' knowledge of the months of the year by their ability to recite and describe
the months on their own without my assistance.
•I will evaluate my use of methods by observing my students' level of participation in the activities I
assign. I will also be able to see if my methods were or were not effective, by my students' attitude
towards the activities; and also by their knowledge of the months, by the end of the month.
•I will revise the assignments my students completed, in order to see if they fully know the months of
the year. I will look back on the worksheets they completed to see if any of them had trouble
completing them. I will also look back on the calendars they completed in order to see if they were able
to create a full calendar that includes all twelve months in chronological order, as well as decorations
