Update on the OSGi Enterprise Expert Group

The OSGi Enterprise Expert Group provided an update on their work. They have released an Enterprise Specification focusing on Java EE and component integration. Their next release will focus on bundle aggregation, dependency resolution, and enhancements to Blueprint and JMX. They are also working on support for Java service loading, cloud computing, and JCA integration.

In networks built from proprietary and specialized equipment and software, can we really achieve the touted benefits of applying open source? One year has passed since the experiment called OPNFV was launched as act of faith by a brave few who wanted to accelerate true interoperability, by developing an open and flexible development reference platform to address NFV. In this year we have wrestled with many issues on both the development and business front, as we balance CSP expectations vs CSP realities, cooperation vs differentiation, and try to harness the chaotic open source development model to deliver useful software in a timely manner. This talk will provide an overview of the challenges we faced, our learnings and achievements.

Traditional carriers' transport networks consist of vertically-integrated devices with vendor-proprietary interfaces, that causes "vendor lock in" environment and interferes with adopting software based control and configuration for carriers' transport networks. NTT Communications are trying to adopt disaggregation approach for them to transform our operations by integrating commoditized multi-vendor components and SDN technology. In this presentation, we will talk about our expectations for disaggregated transport networks and its controller architecture with multiple SDN controllers including open source software. Furthermore, we will show our internal evaluation result of disaggregated transport network feasibility and discuss future development plans.

2018 OIF SDN T-API Readout 6.2018

NetIDE is a EU-funded project that is known to the OpenDaylight community, because we have contributed a component to the Beryllium release. However, the full NetIDE ecosystem is much more. It is an extended SDN controller framework that allows users to cherry-pick the best of breed both for the network facing controller and the SDN framework for applications. In addition it provides an application composition engine that allows network operators to introduce software development concepts like code reusability in their production cycle. In this talk, I will introduce the whole Network Engine as well as the NetIDE Eclipse plugin that allows us to create SDN applications, test them and run them on the NetIDE engine and reflect on why we contributed what we contributed to OpenDaylight.

This document discusses OSGi Cloud Ecosystems, which provide a highly dynamic OSGi environment where cloud nodes/VMs, bundles, and services can dynamically come and go. In an OSGi Cloud Ecosystem, multiple OSGi frameworks run in separate VMs/cloud nodes and are bound together via an ecosystem-wide discovery mechanism. A provisioner orchestrates the ecosystem by remotely deploying bundles to frameworks based on application topology and runtime conditions. This allows building composite cloud applications where each entity runs on a different node and can scale dynamically.

Configuration Admin allows configuring components through OSGi configurations. The HTTP Whiteboard allows exposing components as web services. Evaluating Wavelet Tranforms for Video Conferencing Applications

This report summarizes work done in the second quarter of 2008 on a research project evaluating wavelet transforms for video conferencing applications. The project investigated the DIRAC wavelet-based video codec by [1] developing an understanding of DIRAC's theory and software, [2] creating a software flow diagram for DIRAC, and [3] examining how to integrate DIRAC into an open-source video conferencing application called OpenPhone. The landscape of SDKs, APIs and file formats for accelerating inferencing and vision applications continues to rapidly evolve. Low-level compute APIs, such as OpenCL, Vulkan and CUDA are being used to accelerate inferencing engines such as OpenVX, CoreML, NNAPI and TensorRT. Inferencing engines are being fed via neural network file formats such as NNEF and ONNX. Some of these APIs, like OpenCV, are vision-specific, while others, like OpenCL, are general-purpose. Some engines, like CoreML and TensorRT, are supplier-specific, while others, such as OpenVX, are open standards that any supplier can adopt. Which ones should you use for your project? In this presentation, Trevett presents the current landscape of APIs, file formats and SDKs for inferencing and vision acceleration, explaining where each one fits in the development flow. Trevett also highlights where these APIs overlap and where they complement each other, and previews some of the latest developments in these APIs.

In the first part of this talk David Bosschaert will explain the Distributed OSGi specification, which is new in OSGi 4.2. The talk will outline the design principles and also show how to distribute OSGi services in practise by a short demo. In the second part of this talk Marc Schaaf will present some preliminary results regarding research on how asynchronous messaging could be integrated into OSGi. The talk will discuss some possible integration approaches and will outline the current approach taken in this research project. A short demo is included showing how developers could use it.

Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process. In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds. - These are slides of the talk given at IEEE International Conference on Software Testing Verification and Validation Workshop, ICSTW 2022.
