Driving Business Innovation through Technology Innovationaccenture
Speed matters in a digital economy. Customers expect products and services to be instantly available through whatever channel they choose. New competitors are springing up with a different mind-set and path to seize market share and turn the value chain of an established company, or industry, on its head.
If agility accelerates growth, innovation is the driving force to achieve it. Business innovation is digital innovation driven by new ideas and advances in technology. As technology leaders, CIOs have a tremendous opportunity to be relentlessly proactive in identifying how technology can create new value for the business.

The document discusses how mergers and acquisitions (M&A) valued at over $4.7 trillion took place in 2015. It argues that cloud computing can help drive further growth and competitiveness in M&A by enabling companies to capture synergies more quickly. Specifically, cloud infrastructure allows for faster IT delivery and cost reductions of 30% and nearly 30% on average respectively for M&A. Engaging the CIO early in the M&A process can help identify new sources of value from cloud and accelerate the benefits for deals.
Digital technologies are driving changes across the utility industry by disrupting demand, increasing competition, changing customer expectations, and putting pressure on capital spending. Utilities are responding by using digital tools to optimize existing business models, but stakeholders are pushing for transformation to meet needs like innovative services, lower carbon emissions, and more flexible energy networks. The document discusses how some utilities are transforming their business models into three "power plays" focused on low-carbon energy production, optimizing distribution systems, and providing innovative customer solutions. A full digital transformation of the utility business model is needed to unlock $1.3 trillion in potential value by 2025.

The document summarizes the Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB), which establishes new capital requirements for market risk. It outlines the standardized approach and internal models approach, both of which involve calculating expected shortfall and stressed value-at-risk. Banks will need to store and process significantly more market data to meet the new requirements, which are estimated to increase median capital requirements by 22% and weighted average capital requirements by 40%. Technical challenges include automating extensive data gathering, pricing, and reporting to support the new risk measurement approaches and capital calculations.
