This document provides an orientation for a Public Health Seminar series. It outlines the objectives, description, structure, schedule and requirements for the seminar. The seminar is a weekly event that allows students and faculty to engage with public health experts on various topics. It is a core 3-credit course for all master's students. The primary learning goals are for students to gain knowledge on current public health issues and practice public speaking skills. Students must attend the seminars, participate in group assignments and submit a final compiled report of all seminar sessions to pass the course.

WELCOME

2. Session objectives
• Provide students with a quick overview of the
Public Health Seminar.
• Address questions/concerns.

3. Seminar description
• A weekly school-wide seminar series.
• Lasting approx. 2 hours per session.
• Allows both students and faculty to engage topical
issues of public health significance, which may not
normally be covered in any of the graduate-level course.
• At these seminars, public health practitioners, experts
and researchers are invited to share their views and
opinions on specific topics of interest for interaction.

4. Objective/learning outcomes
• By the end of the seminars, students are
expected to:
 Gain knowledge about current trends in public health.
 Get the opportunity to interact with experts and public
health practitioners.
 Acquire skills and strategies in public speaking.

5. Seminar structure
• It is a Three (3) Credit Hour core course for all master’s
students; with department-specific course code, i.e.
BEOH 610, BSTT 610, EPDC 610, HPPM 610, MOEV 610,
PFRH 610 and SOBS 610.
• It is held in both first and second semesters.
• But registered only in the second semester

• Saturday, Feb 5, 2-4pm
• Saturday, March 12, 2-6pm
• Saturday, April 2, 2-4pm
• Sunday, April 3, 4-6pm
• Saturday, April 9, 2-4pm

7. Mode of teaching/delivery - 2022
• Primary mode: in-person at SPH auditorium
• Secondary mode: On-line (synchronous) via
zoom/Microsoft teams.

8. Requirements – what you must know
• The seminar is a compulsory course that students must pass
before graduation.
• Attendance at seminars is mandatory for all graduate students.
• Students are to ensure that they sign an attendance sheet on each
seminar day.
• Student are required to keep records of all seminars according to
the prescribed format below.
• Students will be assigned to groups, and each group is expected to
submit a final seminar report (logbook), which is a compilation of
all seminar reports.
• The logbooks are submitted to the School at the end of the
semester through the Seminar Coordinator (Dr. John Ganle).
• The logbooks are assessed and graded at the end of the semester.

9. Requirements – what you must know
• For each seminar, class reps must work with the class to
identify:
 One chairperson – should have some knowledge/experience on
the seminar topic. Chairperson introduces the speaker and also
chairs the seminar.
 One Moderator – to introduce chairperson and moderate Q and A
session.
 One person to give vote of thanks

10. Requirements – final report to be submitted to
the School
• Report must be typed and double-spaced.
• Font style: Times New Romans, Font size 12pt or
Calibri, Font size 12pt.
• Report must be printed on one side of A4 paper.
• Report must be stapled;
• Report must have a cover page, which shall contain:
 Name of the School
 Name of College
 Name of University
 University logo
 Title of the report i.e. Public health seminar report for first and second
semesters, 2022/2023 academic year
 List of group members submitting report
 Month and year of submission of report

12. Grading
• The seminar is graded per attendance and seminar
report.
• The final grade for Seminars comprises:
 Public Health Seminar – attendance + report
 Students’ Seminar
 Viva scores
