Terence Byrne 
For Task 3, I will have to create a level using the software Unity, from this I will create a terrain, add 
a player and then set goals to make this level playable. 
First, I placed in a First person controller to the game to begin the level. I did this first so I could then 
add the terrain, and then move the controller above the terrain. After this I added the Terrain and 
modified it e.g. gave the terrain hills using different tools; and textures such as sand. 
I then decided to add a sky box to the level, as well as a directional light so I 
could see the level better. 
After this I then added some new textures to 
the island, in which were already on Unity. 
However, I decided to go on google images 
and get 2 textures in which I could use on 
unity, The first was a sand texture. I 
modified the image on photoshop so that I 
could use the texture on Unity.

When I had modified the image on 
Photoshop, I tested it on unity, the 
texture worked well as the 
modifications I did on Photoshop 
supported the texture on Unity 
I then added a new texture in which was beach pebbles, I did the same method on 
Photoshop and the added the image to unity when the modifications were complete.

After I had created the level, I decided to create an account on the asset store. This meant I could 
download and import more things for my level. 
Considering I was basing my game on an unknown island out at sea, I decided I 
would need shacks made from materials, you would only find on the island 
e.g. sand. In this case I downloaded and imported a package containing 
sandstone houses, wells, etc. 
I then decided import a camping props packs containing campfires, wooden 
fences, wooden boxes etc. I thought this would be suitable for my game type.

I then decided to run the game and test the things out. Everything seemed good and the level was 
looking more interesting. I then wanted to give my first person control a prop to hold and so I 
decided to download a make shift torch in which would produce light. After downloading the torch I 
placed it in front of the first person and placed the torch into the first person object. I run the game 
to see and the torch was placed in a good position. 
I the decided to add a camp full of fighting goblins, for the player to come across with no warning. I 
downloaded some goblins and placed them into the jungle style area of the level. I then decided to 
put actions on each goblin so that they would fight against each other. Now the goblins were 
fighting, I decided to make the area around them look like a battle zone e.g. with fires, tents set on 
fire and goblins lying injured on the floor.

However, one lesson when I started up Unity, my work was gone due to errors on Unity. Some other 
people in the class had the same problem and so I had to load up an older save and redo what I had 
lost like the goblins, village etc. After doing this I was then on track and decided to add more stuff to 
the game. 
My terrain had changed and I had decided to base my game on a more Deseret type terrain with 
hardly any grass and just dried up sand and no trees. I added various features to the first village I 
have e.g. I added a mount and wooden pikes protecting the village. 
I then decided to add goblins into the village to portray that this is there hideout. Originally on my 
old game I had the goblins fighting in the woods, but considering I lost that, I decided to add them 
into the village.

My next task was to create a place of ancient ruins and when looking on the Asset Store, I came 
across 2 ancient ruins pack which was great. 
I wanted to add the ancient ruins near the Goblin village and I decided to split the ancient ruined 
temple and houses so they were in 2 different places e.g. the temple was in one placed and the 
ancient houses were in another place. 
I then downloaded some skeletons and placed them around both areas. I did this to portray that 
these 2 places are old and destroyed.

I realized that the environment I was in would need cactus and so I downloaded a cactus pack from 
the asset store. Whilst downloading the cactus pack I saw a destroyed shack pack and so I 
downloaded that to. I combined both these packs together and added some skeletons to that 
location too. 
I then found a prefab wagon and decided to create a location based on this. I placed on the wagons 
bricks and trees to portray work taking place

I added a Well outside the village and then placed more cactus land into the level. This was so the 
map had more assets as this would make it more interesting.

I then added more locations to the game to make it more interesting e.g. I added a campsite with a 
goblin at the location, after this I decided to select all goblins holding shift and added and action to 
all of them. I added the “idle” action to them so they would be active and move.

Then I added a second island with a bridge leading to it. I did this as this would be an interesting 
place to come across when playing. 
Considering my game was going to be based around a dark dusk environment I decided to add more 
lights around the level using torches, flames etc.

I then had to add a mesh collider to all the objects that I didn’t want to go through. I did this so that 
the game would be more realistic. 
By now I was nearly finished and ready to film but I decided to add a plane crash site to portray that 
the player has crashed this plane on to this unidentified island. This is where the player would begin. 
To record my video I used Camstudio. I tampered with various setting on Unity so that my recording 
will run smooth and correctly.

I recorded the video starting at the plane crash site and ending at the abandoned cactus farm house. 
My next step was to upload it to YouTube so I could embed the evidence in the correct blog 
Overall, this task was interesting as I learnt more about Unity and how to use it. Also, I felt as if I was 
able to create the level freely from my ideas.

Unity Task 3

  • 1. Terence Byrne For Task 3, I will have to create a level using the software Unity, from this I will create a terrain, add a player and then set goals to make this level playable. First, I placed in a First person controller to the game to begin the level. I did this first so I could then add the terrain, and then move the controller above the terrain. After this I added the Terrain and modified it e.g. gave the terrain hills using different tools; and textures such as sand. I then decided to add a sky box to the level, as well as a directional light so I could see the level better. After this I then added some new textures to the island, in which were already on Unity. However, I decided to go on google images and get 2 textures in which I could use on unity, The first was a sand texture. I modified the image on photoshop so that I could use the texture on Unity.
  • 2. Terence Byrne When I had modified the image on Photoshop, I tested it on unity, the texture worked well as the modifications I did on Photoshop supported the texture on Unity I then added a new texture in which was beach pebbles, I did the same method on Photoshop and the added the image to unity when the modifications were complete.
  • 3. Terence Byrne After I had created the level, I decided to create an account on the asset store. This meant I could download and import more things for my level. Considering I was basing my game on an unknown island out at sea, I decided I would need shacks made from materials, you would only find on the island e.g. sand. In this case I downloaded and imported a package containing sandstone houses, wells, etc. I then decided import a camping props packs containing campfires, wooden fences, wooden boxes etc. I thought this would be suitable for my game type.
  • 4. Terence Byrne I then decided to run the game and test the things out. Everything seemed good and the level was looking more interesting. I then wanted to give my first person control a prop to hold and so I decided to download a make shift torch in which would produce light. After downloading the torch I placed it in front of the first person and placed the torch into the first person object. I run the game to see and the torch was placed in a good position. I the decided to add a camp full of fighting goblins, for the player to come across with no warning. I downloaded some goblins and placed them into the jungle style area of the level. I then decided to put actions on each goblin so that they would fight against each other. Now the goblins were fighting, I decided to make the area around them look like a battle zone e.g. with fires, tents set on fire and goblins lying injured on the floor.
  • 5. Terence Byrne However, one lesson when I started up Unity, my work was gone due to errors on Unity. Some other people in the class had the same problem and so I had to load up an older save and redo what I had lost like the goblins, village etc. After doing this I was then on track and decided to add more stuff to the game. My terrain had changed and I had decided to base my game on a more Deseret type terrain with hardly any grass and just dried up sand and no trees. I added various features to the first village I have e.g. I added a mount and wooden pikes protecting the village. I then decided to add goblins into the village to portray that this is there hideout. Originally on my old game I had the goblins fighting in the woods, but considering I lost that, I decided to add them into the village.
  • 6. Terence Byrne My next task was to create a place of ancient ruins and when looking on the Asset Store, I came across 2 ancient ruins pack which was great. I wanted to add the ancient ruins near the Goblin village and I decided to split the ancient ruined temple and houses so they were in 2 different places e.g. the temple was in one placed and the ancient houses were in another place. I then downloaded some skeletons and placed them around both areas. I did this to portray that these 2 places are old and destroyed.
  • 7. Terence Byrne I realized that the environment I was in would need cactus and so I downloaded a cactus pack from the asset store. Whilst downloading the cactus pack I saw a destroyed shack pack and so I downloaded that to. I combined both these packs together and added some skeletons to that location too. I then found a prefab wagon and decided to create a location based on this. I placed on the wagons bricks and trees to portray work taking place
  • 8. Terence Byrne I added a Well outside the village and then placed more cactus land into the level. This was so the map had more assets as this would make it more interesting.
  • 9. Terence Byrne I then added more locations to the game to make it more interesting e.g. I added a campsite with a goblin at the location, after this I decided to select all goblins holding shift and added and action to all of them. I added the “idle” action to them so they would be active and move.
  • 10. Terence Byrne Then I added a second island with a bridge leading to it. I did this as this would be an interesting place to come across when playing. Considering my game was going to be based around a dark dusk environment I decided to add more lights around the level using torches, flames etc.
  • 11. Terence Byrne I then had to add a mesh collider to all the objects that I didn’t want to go through. I did this so that the game would be more realistic. By now I was nearly finished and ready to film but I decided to add a plane crash site to portray that the player has crashed this plane on to this unidentified island. This is where the player would begin. To record my video I used Camstudio. I tampered with various setting on Unity so that my recording will run smooth and correctly.
  • 12. Terence Byrne I recorded the video starting at the plane crash site and ending at the abandoned cactus farm house. My next step was to upload it to YouTube so I could embed the evidence in the correct blog Overall, this task was interesting as I learnt more about Unity and how to use it. Also, I felt as if I was able to create the level freely from my ideas.
