Production manager
Location manager.

Camera Operator.

This job is research based, as they will have to do lots
of research into the time period and what kind of set
the TV program will need. They will also need to find
out about the time era it’s set in and know what times
of walls they had etc. on an average work day before
the filing for the production has started, they would
have to be looking at several different locations and
ruling out which location would be suitable and visa
versa. This is because they will have to pitch several
locations to the production manager and they will
then decide which location to use. The location
manager will usually have a location assistant who
they will have to work closely with.

This job is technical, this is due to the fact they will have to know a
lot of technical information, to do with the cameras they will be
working with. Their duties are very simple compared to others, this
is not because it is an easy job but because they really only have
one main dutyand this duty is to film everything that goes on, on
set. This job is only needed during the production of the
Program, unless they need to re-film anything which is unlikely.
They will work very closely with a lot of the other crew members
who’s jobs are technical based. Such as, the lead holder. They hold
the leads from the cameras, mics etc. So they will have to learn to
cooperate with each other as the lead holder will have to know
where the camera is going to avoid an accident.

Audio Editor.
This job role is mainly editorial but could also be
considered as technical. We know this because they are
the final audio editor and have to have the skills to
make the audio make sense, also to add any audio that
might be needed or is missing. The audio editor is
normally not involved in the pre-production or
production stages of the film making. Although, they
are a vital part of the post production, due to the fact
without an audio editor there would be no one to add
any missing lines, which often happens in making a TV
program. The duties and responsibilities of being an
audio editor is to edit the sound and make sure there is
no mistakes. They normally will have to work with the
editor during the editing process, so they will have to
agree on any audio mistakes and decide what the next
step is (if they have to get actors in again, etc).

Casting director.
This job is administrative, this is due to the fact they will be in
charge of who to cast for certain roles and have to run this part of
the production. Their survives are only needed during the preproduction stage, unless suddenly they need a replacement actor
or something of that sound. In this case the casting director will be
contacted and expected to find someone as quick as possible.
Although, other than that they will have to organize the initial
interviews and have a massive if not the overall say on who is cast
for the roles in the TV program. They will have to work with the
producer on who is the best to cast and make sure they are happy
with her decisions, but apart from that the casting director
doesn’t have to work with anyone else very closely.
Script writer.

Director.

This job role is creative, as they only need the creative skills
needed to write a script. Where as, if it was a director they
don’t really need creative skills, more like managerial. On an
average day before they have finished the script, they would
just be getting it finished. Although, after they would be
visiting various companies and pitching the script idea to
them, unless they have already pitched it and had a deal
before the script was written. Their responsibilities include
having the script finished by the deadline (if they have been
given one by the company the Program going on). Script
writers tend to be very independent (most of the time are
free-lance workers). This means they don’t really work closely
with any one, apart from when the company want to add
things into the script or change something.

This job is managerial, because they are in control of
everything that goes on, on set (production). They are only
needed during the production process, unless they are
needed during the editing process. On an average day a
director would have to plan where the camera will be and
where abouts the cast will be on set (unless the producer
has done that, although he would still have to adapt on
that). Once they’ve done that he will proceed to make sure
everyone (cast and crew) sticks to the plan and directs the
actors where to go and can advise them on how to say or act
a certain way. The director is responsible for what goes
on, on set and that nothing is out of place and makes sense
when it comes to the editing process. They will have to work
very closely with the producer, as they will have to take on
all of the producers ideas and cooperate them with theirs.
They will also have to have some sort of relationship with
the cast and crew, in particular the cast so they respect each
other since they will have to take each others ideas onboard.

Financial Controller.
This job is Financial based, due to the fact they are in charge
of the money and make sure the TV program is in
budget, etc. On an average day the financial controller
manages the day to day transactions for the and makes sure
the company doesn’t make any losses by reinforcing
sufficient procedures and controls are in place. They have to
work with the other members in the finance team quite
closely so they all know what’s going on and don’t loose
track of anything or any money, etc.

Producer.
The Producers job is mostly seen as organizational, although
it is also managerial because they will have to advise people
on what to do e.g. director. On an average day while they
are filming the TV program, the producer will have to plan
what is meant to be filmed in that day and make sure
everything is on schedule. They have a responsibility to
make sure everything is filmed in the time they have been
given and it’s all in budget. The producer will have to work
with the director, as they are both in charge of what goes on
while filming.

  • 1. Unit 8 Assignment 2a- Teona McFadden. Ms. Ogunlabi.
  • 2. Lighting Production management Technical producer Actors Lighting director Management Technical Producer Camera person Creative Wardrobe Assistant Location management Script writer Location manager Boom operator Research researcher Job Roles in The Tv Industry. Audio editor Art director Producer Organizational Director of programming Editorial Editor Special effects editor Production manager Producer Administrative Financial Production manager
  • 3. Location manager. Camera Operator. This job is research based, as they will have to do lots of research into the time period and what kind of set the TV program will need. They will also need to find out about the time era it’s set in and know what times of walls they had etc. on an average work day before the filing for the production has started, they would have to be looking at several different locations and ruling out which location would be suitable and visa versa. This is because they will have to pitch several locations to the production manager and they will then decide which location to use. The location manager will usually have a location assistant who they will have to work closely with. This job is technical, this is due to the fact they will have to know a lot of technical information, to do with the cameras they will be working with. Their duties are very simple compared to others, this is not because it is an easy job but because they really only have one main dutyand this duty is to film everything that goes on, on set. This job is only needed during the production of the Program, unless they need to re-film anything which is unlikely. They will work very closely with a lot of the other crew members who’s jobs are technical based. Such as, the lead holder. They hold the leads from the cameras, mics etc. So they will have to learn to cooperate with each other as the lead holder will have to know where the camera is going to avoid an accident. Audio Editor. This job role is mainly editorial but could also be considered as technical. We know this because they are the final audio editor and have to have the skills to make the audio make sense, also to add any audio that might be needed or is missing. The audio editor is normally not involved in the pre-production or production stages of the film making. Although, they are a vital part of the post production, due to the fact without an audio editor there would be no one to add any missing lines, which often happens in making a TV program. The duties and responsibilities of being an audio editor is to edit the sound and make sure there is no mistakes. They normally will have to work with the editor during the editing process, so they will have to agree on any audio mistakes and decide what the next step is (if they have to get actors in again, etc). Casting director. This job is administrative, this is due to the fact they will be in charge of who to cast for certain roles and have to run this part of the production. Their survives are only needed during the preproduction stage, unless suddenly they need a replacement actor or something of that sound. In this case the casting director will be contacted and expected to find someone as quick as possible. Although, other than that they will have to organize the initial interviews and have a massive if not the overall say on who is cast for the roles in the TV program. They will have to work with the producer on who is the best to cast and make sure they are happy with her decisions, but apart from that the casting director doesn’t have to work with anyone else very closely.
  • 4. Script writer. Director. This job role is creative, as they only need the creative skills needed to write a script. Where as, if it was a director they don’t really need creative skills, more like managerial. On an average day before they have finished the script, they would just be getting it finished. Although, after they would be visiting various companies and pitching the script idea to them, unless they have already pitched it and had a deal before the script was written. Their responsibilities include having the script finished by the deadline (if they have been given one by the company the Program going on). Script writers tend to be very independent (most of the time are free-lance workers). This means they don’t really work closely with any one, apart from when the company want to add things into the script or change something. This job is managerial, because they are in control of everything that goes on, on set (production). They are only needed during the production process, unless they are needed during the editing process. On an average day a director would have to plan where the camera will be and where abouts the cast will be on set (unless the producer has done that, although he would still have to adapt on that). Once they’ve done that he will proceed to make sure everyone (cast and crew) sticks to the plan and directs the actors where to go and can advise them on how to say or act a certain way. The director is responsible for what goes on, on set and that nothing is out of place and makes sense when it comes to the editing process. They will have to work very closely with the producer, as they will have to take on all of the producers ideas and cooperate them with theirs. They will also have to have some sort of relationship with the cast and crew, in particular the cast so they respect each other since they will have to take each others ideas onboard. Financial Controller. This job is Financial based, due to the fact they are in charge of the money and make sure the TV program is in budget, etc. On an average day the financial controller manages the day to day transactions for the and makes sure the company doesn’t make any losses by reinforcing sufficient procedures and controls are in place. They have to work with the other members in the finance team quite closely so they all know what’s going on and don’t loose track of anything or any money, etc. Producer. The Producers job is mostly seen as organizational, although it is also managerial because they will have to advise people on what to do e.g. director. On an average day while they are filming the TV program, the producer will have to plan what is meant to be filmed in that day and make sure everything is on schedule. They have a responsibility to make sure everything is filmed in the time they have been given and it’s all in budget. The producer will have to work with the director, as they are both in charge of what goes on while filming.
