Alice is a 17-year-old female rugby player who plays wing for a performance-level team. The coach observed Alice's game from video and met with her and her coaches to create a performance profile. The coach's main concern was ensuring everyone understood the profiling scale to accurately assess Alice's abilities. Going forward, the coach will observe Alice in person and meet face-to-face with her coaches to better discuss her strengths and weaknesses.

3. Coaching Log – Athlete Observation
Date 11.12.14
Location The cloud (Video analyses of 1 game)
Strengths I believe that I got the correct information down from the video that
I watched and also with the knowledge I have on her from knowing
her very well.
Improvement
Areas
To improve the observation I could have watched some games in
person before assessing her ability in all of the traits.
Points for
future
discussion
From this I will make sure that any discussion I get with the athlete
and coach will be done in much more detail so that the traits are
even more accurate.
Possible
actions arising
Next time I could go and watch her in real life to see her play to get
better results.
4. Coaching Log – Athlete Profiling
Meeting
Date 11.12.14
Location Worthing College
Discussion
points
In the meeting I had with Alice I discussed the main reason and benefits
behind performance profiling. Once she could understand this I would
keep telling her the scale to make sure she remembered what she had to
do.
Concerns The concern I had before meeting with her was Alice being able to
understand the scale or not so I made sure she knew what the scale was
so that we was able to get accurate results and get the information we
needed.
Points for
future
discussion
Alice took on board everything I was telling her and she was very
enthusiastic about it which makes me confident that she will want to go
through with this.
Possible
actions
arising
Next time we meet to assess her and do more profiling I will keep the
scales the same so that she understands it and it will make the task
easier.
5. Coaching Log – Coach Profile Meeting
Date 11.12.14
Location E-mail
Discussion
points
I wrote an e-mail explaining what Mark Rugman and Sam Hewick needed
to do for the coach profiling so they knew what was needed and
explained to them what I needed from them to be able to get the
accurate report.
Concerns The biggest concern was that they didn’t understand the scale to
compare her to so it was necessary that I had a good explanation of what
the scale was so that I could get the correct information.
Points for
future
discussion
They may have not understood it completely so maybe a face to face
meeting would be better as I would be able to explain it a lot easier and
would be able to show them it etc.
Possible
actions
arising
The next time I will meet with the coach and discuss the biggest
strengths and weaknesses that she has.
