7. John Locke
• He was from Wringlot, England

• Many of the basic ideas that animated the
movement developed in the aftermath of the
Second World War and the atrocities of The
Holocaust, culminating in the adoption of the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Paris by the
United Nations General Assembly in 1948.

8. Jean-Jacques Rousseau
• He was born in Geneva
• Addresses the questions of the origin of society
and the legitimacy of the authority of the state
over the individual. Social contract arguments
typically posit that individuals have consented,
either explicitly or tacitly, to surrender some of
their freedoms and submit to the authority of the
ruler or magistrate.
• June 28,1712-July 2,1778 (age 66)

9. Thomas Jefferson
