2. Music Video
• Genre: Metal (Melodic Thrash Metal)
• RT (running time): 4 minutes
• For this project I intend to create a music video for metal band “Seraph” using the song
“double blind.” I intend to shoot some artistic establishing shots of an open, green
landscape, which I will achieve by scouting out private land, obtaining permission to
shoot on it, and shooting these shots.
I intend to create some artistic shots by having actors surrounded by coloured
smoke in the dark. This will be achieved by shooting out on the field at night time,
positioning lights to create the right atmosphere, then setting off smoke grenades,
which would count as special effects. I also Intend to record a sequence of the
band playing the song within the studio.
Overall, the music video will be a series of artistic shots and sequences focusing on two
characters and the band itself.
3. Target Audience
• Gender – Both Genders. Metal typically appeals more to males, but there is also a significant female audience. I
would say the ratio is around 60:40 male:female
• Age – typically the audience for our type of metal music is younger, and because we’re a young new band our
target demographic is between (14-25)
• Race/Nationality – I do not have a specific target race/nationality in mind for this projects, as I believe it has little
to do with interest in the content. However, as it is a song with lyrics in English by a British band, this song would
likely appeal to people in English speaking countries (UK, USA, Canada etc.) In terms of race, the video’s two main
actors are White British and Chinese, so the video may appeal to these races.
• Class/Job type – This project is a metal music video intended to appeal to a young audience, and it will be
published on the internet. Therefore the audience will typically be people living in a situation in which they can
easily access the internet, and have the free time to enjoy watching and listening to new music and videos. I
would say this demographic are likely lower-middle to upper-middle class, Likely in college and/or with a decent
paying part-time job.
• Potential hobbies/interests – As this music video is for a metal band/track, the target audience are people who
enjoy/are interested in this genre, and listen to music regularly. It will also appeal to those who appreciate music
videos and supporting new and upcoming artists in the metal scene.
My Product will appeal to this kind of audience, by being an interesting, well shot music video with lots of special and
visual effects that will appeal to a male, metal-fan demographic. The fact that It will be set to a metal track will further
appeal to metal fans.
4. Visual Effects
• Within my sequence I plan to have a character’s
eyes glow a certain colour, with a shine streak
moving along with the eye movement. This
creates a surreal, psychedelic look, inspired by
Cole Bennet, which will be perfect for my video.
I plan to learn how to create this effect using
after effects and/or premiere from YouTube
tutorials. The image shown is how I hope this
will come out:
• I also plan to change the colour of the sky,
replacing it with a surreal colour or image. This
will be achieved by keying out the sky and
replacing it. I do not know exactly how to do
this, but plan to learn by watching videos that
utilise this technique and using tutorials
• In my sequence I also plan on adding electrical
energy effects or auras around people, to
create a sense of power and intimidation. I
want to learn how to create this effect, as I
currently do not know.
• I would also like to attempt some other visual
effects, such as cloning, morphing, super-
imposing text onto a surface and fire/pyro
effects
5. Special Effects
• In Terms of practical special effects, I plan on
using coloured smoke grenades to surround
characters and connote certain character
symbolism. These can be bought fairly cheaply
online and are mostly perfectly safe for use.
• I may also create the effect of characters
bleeding from the eyes using fake blood
