The first part of the unit was an introduction to the course, secondly we learnt to
differentiate the language acquisition with the language learning process and finally,
we studied the implications that L1 and L2 have on the mentioned processes. We
learnt all of this through the analysis, comparison and final assignment of the works of
Cook (2011), Krashen (1981) and Freeman& Freeman (2004).
I believe this unit was very useful in terms of knowledge for the theories we studied
and their respective authors are very relevant in the language teaching area, which is
why I consider this as a good preamble for all the theories we studied not only in this
course, but also in some other courses in the current semester. I have found myself
relating the works of some of these authors with others, as well as identifying patterns
of writing that have contributed to my reading and writing skills.
I actually enjoyed writing this paper, because it was an assignment that we are not
usually told to complete and I found it even more interesting when we were asked to
correct our mistakes, because I have always thought that it is very important to have
the possibility to emend our errors and that is something I try to reflect with my
students in the practice center I attend.
