HIV and AIDS can have significant impacts on reproductive health. It can increase the risks of maternal and child morbidity and mortality. Pregnancy can also adversely affect the course and progression of HIV in the mother. Stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS and PMTCT services can discourage women from accessing important antenatal care, testing, treatment and infant feeding recommendations that could reduce mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
