international event you INTEND to write your paper on to your TA on the evening

Purpose of the Paper (Examining the Production of Contemporary Historiography) - The goal
of this paper is to allow you to analyze how “historiography” is an ongoing process largely
influenced by the news media. History is a subjectively generated product. History incorporates
the biases and viewpoints of those who produce it. The news media today is a key source in
providing us with “meaning” connected to newsworthy “historical” events. In fact, the news
media is in fact a major part of the process that generates "history.” Although news media
reporters and editors frequently claim that they are presenting “just the facts," the way in which
these “facts” are presented often carry a number of biases that strongly influence public
perception and interpretations of current events.
For this assignment, you are going to pick a specific, single international event and examine how
this event is presented by different news media sources from around the globe. You are being
asked to compare the articles you have selected for this assignment and discuss how the differing
ways in which the event you have chosen actually reflects more than the "plain" facts, but rather

This Writing Assignment is broken down into two parts. Writing Assignment #1, which is due Friday August 27th and Writing Assignment #2, which is due Friday, September 3rd by 11:59 PM CST
The assignment now because requires some research into “strong sources.” Those sources that support your response will require footnotes and a bibliography to present you evidence, in CHICAGO MANUAL STYLE
The first part will not require it, but part two should have an attempt at citing your sources using Chicago Manual style. The video “HOW TO: Cite in Chicago Manual Style” will demonstrate is and model the method of citing your references. It would be the first time trying to cite in any style for many of you, so that tutorial will be a good starting point for the beginners and a refresher for others. Also, you may use the web-site Purdue OwlNet
to assist you in figuring out how to cite various sources that I do not cover in the video tutorial.
You may earn full credit for answering the questions and attempting Chicago Manual Style for Writing Assignment #2.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

An introduction article with a brief explanation of
muckraking and an overview of what you plan to expose
in the publication. It is a minimum of one well-
developed paragraph.

One article describing each of the problems your
group uncovered for your topic. Use vivid and
shocking language. Each article should be a
minimum of at least five well-developed sentences,

readers should take action to address the problems
your group uncovered. It is a minimum of one well-
developed paragraph.

Requirements:
A “photograph” for each article from your
investigation with a brief caption. This can be
downloaded from the Internet. It should depict
something you wrote about the article. It must be
historically accurate. The caption should be placed
under the picture.
Add other clever and creative touches that will make
your article more realistic. This includes
advertisements and anything else that makes it look
more authentic.
