15. Project: ‘Youth in the Center‘ – April 2009 –
March 2011
Project Goal: To develop sustainable
structures in youth development work
Approach: Youngsters develop their own youth
clubs, managed by themselves, supported by
community stakeholders (local government,
parents, school staff and local organizations)
Best practices are disseminated through
social media, study visits, conferences and
participatory video.
Location: 4 Pilot villages

Intervention: 3 days per youth club
17. Each youth club got more recognition and

A number of youngsters started to produce
videos themselves;
Teamwork was strengthened;
Videos were actively shared at Social Media
(Facebook and Odnoklasniki);
Videos were shared with youth and stakeholders
from Neighboring communities;
Videos were presented at a National Conference
to promote the ‘Bottum up’ and ‘Sustainable’
approach or developing youth clubs

19. Overall goal:
To strengthen active citizenship in Ethiopian communities
and to strengthen the dialogue between service providers
and citizins in order to strengthen public service delivery.
Subgoals
Citizins become aware of their rights to questions about
public services and contribute towards the dialogue with
service providers in improving the public services in health
care, education, rural road construction, water supply and
agriculture.
To develop and strengthen the capacity of local NGO’s/
Social Accountability Partners to facilitate the dialogue
between service providers and service users involving an
enabling government;
Sustainable cooperation between local government,
service providers and citizens on public services in around
225 communities in Ethiopia.

Each NGO/ SAIP supports 3-5 communities in facilitation
Process: Each community selects 2 domains in public
service for improvement
In each community the local government, service

about the quality of public services

Transparancy in public service delivery;
Improving the quality of service delivery;
Capacity development at the community level amongst
stakeholders in public service delivery.
22. 25 NGOs/ SAIPs / 50 people acquired the skills
in Participatory Video – 5 day training
between dec 2013 and sept 2014
Online support was provided to the trainees
Participatory video interventions were applied
in more than 30 communities
23. Participatory video was mostly used for
baseline assesment/ mid-term reviews /
evaluations.

25. All 25 NGOs/ SAIPs have implemented participatory
video interventions and organized a community
dialogue
Results/ Benefits
Increased awareness and common understanding
about the process and aim of ‘social accountability’
with all the stakeholders;
All stakeholders showed up at the community
dialogue meeting and showed commitment to further
improve services and work on sustainability;
Visibility of behavioral and service delivery results
and improvements, which helped to further empower
the positive attitude and atmsophere in the
community and it shows that the process of ‘social
accountability’ is showing results,
26. Feeling of recognition with stakeholders,
especially marganilized groups as HIV and
disabled people
Outcomes from the videos have been used for
monitoring purposes to further adjust or
optimize the project interventions;
Participatory videos have been used to inform
and motivate other communities about the
benefits of the social accountability approach;
