Misrepresentation Of Chinese Culture
Nowadays, some chinese culture are misrepresented by people in other countries. In the essay,I will
talk about three kinds of misrepresentation of Chinese culture.
Due to the movie montage and some exaggerated shooting techniques, some foreigners have a deep
misunderstanding of Chinese Kung Fu (like Kung Fu dodge and the internal strength).
However, the essence of Chinese martial arts is to move as much in order to keep fit and keep
calm. People who practice the martial arts, naturally have more strength and good at fighting. But
all these achievements were based on the perennial hard work. It s ridiculous to consider using a
few days to learn Chinese Kung Fu.
When I talked with my American friends, the most common answers I get are Bruce Lee, Jackie
Chan, and Kungfu. Honestly, kung fu is such a mysterious thing to me.
The representation of Kung Fu in China has a large difference from those in the US movies. We
call it the type of martial arts Wu Shu (Wu refers to martial arts;Shu means a hero).
Because I grew up with a lot of martial arts novels, I was glad meet a martial arts artist called
Christopher Pei who was the first Kung Fu artist I have ever seen.
The first thing master Pei told me was Kung Fu s misunderstanding of martial arts ( martial arts
or discipline ,an exhibition of traditional Chinese martial arts and all in one sports.) To be aware
of this fact, I felt a bit disappointed. I believe that Kung Fu is a generation after generation of
secrets, only in a

William Carlos Williams Philomena Andronica And Gertrude...
William Carlos Williams Philomena Andronica and Gertrude Stein s Identity, a poem are both
visually and tonally very different texts. However, Stein and Williams have both used similar
approaches to literary form in their poems as can be seen in their non traditional approach to
meaning generation and rejection of grammatical convention. The poems also both show an interest
in the notion of identityand it s fluidity, although Stein employs repeated images in her
investigation whilst Williams approach lies in his clever use of parenthesis and vignette form.
The two texts both take an approach to punctuation and formatting that strays from grammatical
convention. The passage from Stein s Identity, a Poem presents a syntactic exploration of the idea
identity and self. By rejecting the form that the reader expects of a poem, Stein guides her
readers to an understanding of how language shapes identity. One example of this is the use of a
full stop where grammatical rule dictates there should be a question mark, and if the little dog is
not there is it alone. The lack of expected punctuation makes the reader question the idea that
meaning is dependent on grammatical conventions; why do we need a question mark in order to
understand the words as a question? Stein also uses a mixture of prose and poetic voice in her
poem. By contrasting lines such as I say two dogs but say a dog and a dog, which is distinctly
poetic, with lines with a prosaic tone The person

Fate And Free Will In Oedipus The King
Do you really have a choice? Many people believe that there is no such thing as fate. That a
person can decide their own fate and nothing is set in stone. Although, people today don t think
the same as the people from the ancient societies. Back then, a person s fate was handed down
from the gods to oracles and was decided before the child was born. People had no choice back
then, what the gods say aren t taken lightly. But yet, people still attempted to trick fate and escape
their destined paths. And in one of the many ancient greeks stories, Oedipus Rex, a major theme
was do not try to outsmart fate . Throughout the story, many people attempted to escape or outsmart
fate, but instead fate outsmarted them, leading them down their already chosen paths. Nevertheless,
the main characters in Oedipus Rex, the kings and queen, who thought themselves worthy enough
to test fate, seemed to be the ones to lose to fate in the end. It s important to realize, that the first
ones to test fate were King Laios and Queen Jocasta. In Scene II, Jocasta tells Oedipus that she...

On a mission to find the truth of King Laios death, Oedipus finds out the truth behind his birth.
When Oedipus was born his fate was already decided for him, and no amount of running could
change his or anyone else s fate. Oedipus would not die in the woods, nor would he escape far
enough from his family, nor would his ending be a happy one. In Exodus, it is known that
Jocasta killed herself and Oedipus has blinded himself, so that he may not see the horrors of his
life. Near the end of the story, Oedipus is seen with his two daughters of the first and last time,
in Oedipus Rex. He proceeds to tell them: Then, whom / Can you ever marry? There are no
bridegrooms for you, / And your lives must wither away in sterile dreaming (Sophocles 78 79).

Sacrifice In Joan Aiken s Third Wish
Why would someone sacrifice their faith? In the Third Wish by Joan Aiken Mr.Peter has to take
a lot of faith to make other people happy, he sacrificed a lot but he still makes people happy, which
is not always easy. Mr. Peter drove his car, then found a swan . He got three wishes in the forest his
first wishthat the swan gave him a wife. The second wish that he used to find his wife s sister. He
did not want to use his third wish and he lived a very happy life. The Third wish by Joan Aiken
shows us the face and sacrifice can lead us to happiness or unhappiness.
I first saw the theme in the Third Wish when Mr. Peter goes out helps to swan. First, when Mr.
Peters gets out of his car and goes and helps this swan. First,

The Role Of Graphene On Technological Development Today
The role of graphene in technological development today and in the future
In recent years, the field of nanotechnology developed at a spectacular rate. Scientists argued that
substances behaved differently in a bigger (macro) level compared to a micro level. One of the
major growths of nanotechnology originated from a simple pencil lead; a humble pencil lead that
breaks easily with small amount of force. However, when we divide the pencil lead into just one
atom thick, suddenly its strength and conductivity behavior changes significantly. In fact, the
material is recorded for its amazing feat. It is recorded as the best electrical and thermal conductor
in the world. Even though the material is known to be harder than a diamond, it ... Show more

The first ever recorded history of graphene occurred in 1859 where Benjamin Brodie mixed graphite
with strong acids (Geim, 2012). He thought that he found a new allotrope (structure) of carbon.
However, we now know that instead of finding a new allotrope of carbon, he found graphene
oxide (Geim). In 1962, German chemist Hanns Peter Boehm picked up where Brodie left off and
produced a residue of graphene oxide which is now known as graphene. They then introduced the
term graphene for the first time in history. He gave the name graphene based on the combination of
graphite, its raw material, and the suffix ene to signify its aromatic hydrocarbon characteristics
(Geim). However, it was Andre Geim and Kostya Novoselov who made a big hit through their
paper in graphene. These scientists from Manchester University discovered graphene through an
unorthodox method. In the book Graphene: Fundamentals and emergent applications, Jamie H.
Warner (2012) stated that how these scientists used a scotch tape to discover graphene. They
started off with graphite of a pencil, and started removing layers after layers until they were left
with a single layer of graphite called graphene. For their ingenious yet simple technique, they were
awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics for their groundbreaking experiments regarding the two
dimensional material graphene (Warner).
Before the discovery of graphene in real life, scientists were skeptical with the idea of a 2D carbon

Man Vs. Society In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
The main conflict involved all characters that struggling for survival during the Great depression
due to the insecurity of jobs, uncertainty about future and no enough money. One of the conflicts
was man vs. society in the story. Crooks, who was a black man with crippled back, segregated
from other farm workers. He did not allow sleeping in the bunkhouse with the rest of people.
Crooks consistently discriminated and considered as a second class citizen which lived separately
in the stable with horses. Furthermore, He had called names and abused by others. He had not even
given respect to having name and society will stay the same which he could not attain American

My First Love Essay
Everyone loves to tell the story of their first love, and the beautiful lesson they learned through
the adventure. You hear the phrase, you ll never forget your first as you see a small smirk
flourish across the faces of people who remember their story. Through all the experiences shared, I
never would have believed the result of falling out of love. All of the novels and sweet smiles never
hinted about the time I would end up crumbled down on my bedroom s floor, with two years of a
person s presence surrounding a broken heart. Nobody will speak of watching your first love leave
for college, knowing that they will want to move on. I went through the stages of heartbreak
that left me with a cracked and bruised heart. The recovery and journey of finding acceptance
and love for myself, created a book of my personal lessons. Going back to that summer is like
reading the final book of your favorite series, you soak in the words trying to read slow, savoring.
Completing the series leaves a bitter sweet moment, comparing to the emotions that overcame my
mind through the process of watching him go. However, it was not beautiful and bittersweet as
romance novels paint your first love out to be. Each page in our novel transformed from love to a
war zone, as loyalty became nonexistent, and trust only present in waves. The summer was
beautiful, but in my heart I knew that this novel was only a fairy tale coming to it s end. There was
nothing left to be painted. That hot and humid

Geographic Differences Between Canada And The United States
Although they bear some superficial similarities, the differences between America and Canada are
striking. There are many differences between Canada and the United States such as ethnicity,
geography, population, politics, and many more. Of all the differences the focus of this paper will
be geography. Geographical differences can be seen through the land of the United Statesand
Canada.
The geographical land known as the United States was not formed in a day. It took many years to
formulate into what is seen today. For example, the Appalachian Mountains were formed when
two plates collided together causing a buckling in the Earth s crust. They now form a boundary of
the east coast to the remainder of the country. On the west coast, one can find the Rockies which
were formed by the westward shift of the North American tectonic plate and its collision with the
Pacific tectonic plate causing folding forces. The Rockies actually connect the United States to
Canada. Another example of the different geographical aspects of Canada and the United States is
the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon was created over many years by erosion from the Colorado
River.

The Cordillera is located on the western portion of Canada near Alaska. The Niagara Falls,
another beautiful geographical difference between Canada and the United States were formed
simply by large torrents of water that were released from the melting ice, draining into what is
now the Niagara River. Niagara Falls is located in both the United States and Canada, but there
is a big difference in the scenery depending on which side one is viewing from. The water fell
over the edge of the Niagara Escarpment, a cliff at what is now Lewiston, New York. The force of
the water wore away the rock layers and Niagara Falls moved upstream, eventually reaching its

Setting And Symbolism In The Piano Lesson By August Wilson
A haunting of the past
In August Wilson s play, The piano lesson, the author takes his readers on a journey through the
life of the Charles family. Sister and brother battle each other over a piano that tells their family s
history. Through examining their history, Wilson uses setting and symbolism to convey his
personal belief in the importance of one s ancestral family roots and the significant impact it has
in a person s everyday life. The author uses setting to introduce the significance in the ancestry of
the Charles family and further examine the troubling state of the current generation. Wilson grew
up in a non wealthy colored district in which he set most of his plays (Fisher, James), so there is
no surprise that Wilson s play has black roots that are relatable to his past ,also acting as salute to
people of color (Gantt, Patricia). His strong connection to African American roots are why
censors ,who have criticized Wilsons work, applaud him on his capability to make interesting
characters and pull from African American folklore (Bloom, Harold), and in doing so, he shared
much of his native craft and technique (Tracie, Guzzio). A man owns the Charles family, whose
grandparents had ownership of his grandparents, and he happens to also be man who held the title
of Robert Stutter (Bryer, Jackson R., and Mary C. Hartig, Wilson 1.2.8). In the play, a major
flashback occurs on a slave plantation where the older Charles family must to pick cotton (2.1.7).
The setting is critical to the family when it comes to the readers understanding of the present
Charles s past, as their grandparents were slaves which in turn made life for the future generations a
lot harder. Although Bernice lives in Pittsburgh (1.1.5), it is still hard for colored people to make a
living and buy food from white only markets, so instead, their parents teach them things such as
how to kill a chicken (2.2.10). Wilson uses setting to show that even though Bernice lives in a
different environment than that of which her family roots originate, their individualities interrupt
and cross within her own (Lise, Kidergurd), and the physical things, such as her skin color, still
affect her present life. Although Bernice does not wish to

The Evil Of Revenge, And The Evil Of Revenge
The single most destructive force in this world is revenge. An immense amount of wars,
murders, division, and hatred is due to the evil that is revenge. There are many famous forms of
literature that discuss revenge. One is Of Revenge by Sir Francis Bacon. In this essay Bacon
explains the evil of revenge and why it shouldn t be taken. Also, down playing revenge, Robert
Kennedy gave a speech called A Eulogy for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Immediately following
the death of Dr. King, Kennedy pleads with the African American community and America to
forgive this offense instead of taking revenge for King s murder. The final piece of media that
discusses revenge does it in a different manor. Edgar Allen Poe writes about revenge in a short
story called The Cask of Amontillado. The plot of this story is that of a man named Montresor
desperately seeks revenge upon a colleague and eventually murders him by trapping him in
catacombs deep underground. No matter what the circumstances, revenge should never be taken
because men become controlled and destroyed by revenge, and revenge creates division among
people. People are constantly being commanded by the temptation of revenge and demolished by
the aftermath of taking it. I forced the last stone into place; I plastered it up. For more than a half
century no one has disturbed them (Poe 8). In the story The Cask of Amontillado , Montresor is so
hopelessly controlled by his desire for revenge, that he brutally murders his

King George III and Britain, the Battle of Freemans Farm on September 19th 1777 and the

It Is Just A College Prep Class
Avid speech
First off, I d like to ask, What is AVID? For outsiders, they believe it is just a college prep class.
In some ways it is, but there is so much more to this class. Where teachers help us gain unique
study skills that bring us the ability to do better in school. They also provide a friendly
environment that helps us to gain better knowledge. They also help us build a career and set goals
for our future.
They say a AVID has proven achievement and brings a lifelong Advantage. But it s not just the
class it s you. You can have your teachers and parents tell you school is important, but you have to
believe in yourself. And the teachers here understand that. They let you go and build you up to
become someone truly amazing. They don t attempt to force you there but add that last finger to
help you lift up the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

example is what does is a study technique we use every week. It has 5 parts. The first is The

questions on the topic. For example, say we made a Cornell note on apples. A question you can
write is What are the parts of an apple? The first areas where you would write your answer and
explain your questions and the last section is where you summarize what you learned making that

Essay On Pw Botha
According to Hermann Giliomee, President PW Botha s speech on 15 August 1985 to the National
Party (NP) of Natal was the turning point at which white rule in South Africa failed to turn. Botha
was expected to use the speech, broadcast to a huge international audience, to turn around the South
African crisis that had worsened after the outbreak of uprisings in the townships in September 1984.
Spurning the expectations of bold reforms, Botha projected himself as the uncompromising leader
of a white minority determined to fight to the end for its survival.
The speech triggered a massive outflow of capital and intensified sanctions against South Africa. A
line in Botha s speech, Today we have crossed the Rubicon , promptly became the object of scorn
and ridicule. Today it is still a major question why Botha refused to give a speech that the world
would have considered as a true crossing of the Rubicon (A Journal of Historical and Human

De Klerk calls this episode: probably the greatest communication disaster in South African
history (1998:103). This was typical for the leadership of PW Botha. His stubbornness and pride
took over and left reason behind. The years that followed the failed Rubicon speech became the
most violent so far (Sisk 1995:65). This did not help to increase the reform eagerness of the
securocrat PW Botha. He linked reform and security tightly together, the one required the other.
Botha s political career got an abrupt ending as he suffered from a stroke in the beginning of 1989.
Even though he clenched the presidential chair, he finally had to give in to the pressure from his
fellow National Party politicians and hand over the baton to FW De Klerk. A leadership change that
produced a breakthrough in the democratization of South Africa that had a political stalemate

The lavenders (Lavandula) are a genus of 39 species of flowering plants in the mint family,
Lamiaceae. An Old World genus, distributed from Macaronesia (Cape Verde and Canary Islands
and Madeira) across Africa, the Mediterranean, South West Asia, Arabia, Western Iran and South
East India. It is thought the genus originated in Asia but is most diversified in its western
distribution.
The genus includes annuals, herbaceous plants, subshrubs, and small shrubs. The native range
extends across the Canary Islands, North and East Africa, Southern Europe and the Mediterranean,
Arabia and India. Because the cultivated forms are planted in gardens worldwide, they are
occasionally found growing wild as garden escapees, well beyond their natural range. However,
since lavender cross pollinates easily, there are countless variations within the species. The color of
the flowers of some forms has come to be called lavender.
The leaves are long and narrow in most species. In other species they are pinnately toothed, or
pinnate, sometimes multiple pinnate and dissected. Flowers are borne in whorls, held on spikes
rising above the foliage. Flowers may be blue, violet or lilac. The calyx is tubular, with five
lobes. The corolla is often asymmetric.[1] Lavenders flourish best in dry, well drained, sandy or
gravelly soils in full sun.[2] All types need little or no fertilizer and good air circulation; in areas of

The Elements Of Style By William Strunk Jr.
William Strunk Jr., an English professor at Cornell University in 1919 required his students to
have the textbook The Elements of Style, written by William Strunk Jr. himself. It was referred
to as the little book and was a forty three page summary of the case for cleanliness, accuracy and
brevity in the use of English (Strunk White, 2000). These rules are in the form of sharp
commands, shining light on Sergeant Strunk s personality and approach to teaching. E.B. White, a
former student of Strunk, revised the book he was given, years after his professor passed away.
White does not soften the direct orders of the original book, but preserves the flavor of his
discontent while enlarging the scope of the discussion (Strunk White, 2000 xiv). The Elements of
Styleprovides the readers with a convenient reference for grammar, while emphasizing the
importance of omitting needless words, using concrete language and active voice all in a suitable
design. When he delivered his oration on brevity to the class, he leaned forward over his desk,
grasped his coast lapels in his hands, and, in a husky, conspiratorial voice, said, Rule Seventeen.
Omit needless words! Omit needless words! Omit needless words! (Strunk White, 2000, xv). Strunk
provides an image for the most important aspect of his book. The repetition of this rule throughout
the entire book, proves not only the importance of it to Professor Strunk, but to writing as a whole.

New Start Reflection
This summer I had the opportunity to do New Start a program for incoming freshmen at the
University of Arizona. The program is to support the transition from high school to college and
throughout the program you gain knowledge and tips not only just about the college but about
yourself. Using tools from class activities like SWOT and True Colors that helped me really
understand who I am and what are my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Within this
essay I will share with you my SWOT analysis and the things I learned about myself during the last
few weeks.
Strengths
Personal values I believe speak a great deal about a person and who they are and I learned that
my values reflect just that. During New Start we had an activity in class that forced us to pick
from a list of personal values and narrow them down and rank them in order of importance. My
top values included family, friends, school, and independence just to name a few. This activity
was especially challenging for me but in the end it helped me really look at what truly is
important to me. I had to apply this lesson from class in my life sooner than I expected. My
grandmother passed away during New Start and I had to decide if I wanted to miss school and
be with family but that also meant by missing school I d be missing out on important
information. In the end I choose to go to school the next day and be with my family afterwards.
That decision alone was very hard because in a situation such as mine there was a conflict of my
personal values my family is very important to me but school is just as important to me.
Although it was difficult for me to make that decision but the fact I had the ability to choose
between two of my own personal values is why I ve chosen to place knowing and understanding
my personal values as a strength. I know that throughout life there will be times when I will have
to choose once again between my personal values and as student like I ve mentioned earlier I m
going to make those decisions based on what matters to me and what won t always be there in the
end.
Another strength I have is goal setting towards the end of high school coming into this summer my
top goal was to get a job. I ve tried my best to

individual was someone I had grown to know and respect and took several courses under. The
incident occurred after I had graduated from Western Carolina University with my bachelor s
degrees while I was living in Cullowhee over the summer. I was invited to the professor s house
along with another former student to eat dinner with him and his wife. While we were eating the
meal, the professor gave me and the other student a glass of wine to go with dinner. Even though
I was of legal drinking age and was no longer a student of the professor s, it felt strange to have a
professor provide me alcohol.
Also, I felt uncomfortable being in the professor s home since it was the first time I had
socialized with a professor outside of a school environment. I later discussed the event with the
other student to inquire if the situation also made her uncomfortable. The individual disclosed that
she did not feel uncomfortable since this was not her first time having dinner with the professor
and his wife. I did not talk about how this incident made me feel with my professor. The reason
the boundaries were unclear in this situation was that there was a multiple relationship. I was now
the professor s former student as well as an individual who had a social relationship with the
professor.
Unlike the two previous examples, I was not the individual with a position of power. Since the

Besides in relationships, there is another place where communication is key... Not in DJ Khaled s

When salespeople and customers cannot communicate with each other, it leads to frustration on

The Qur Exodus 20 And Matthew 5-7
The two verses Exodus 20 and Matthew 5 7 are a spinoff of last week s verses in Romans and
Genesis. Ever since Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, God s desire has been to restore
the broken relationship between God and people. God made a covenant. A covenant is a promise
from God that can never be broken. The covenant stated that God wanted a relationship with the
people, but in order to have this loving relationship, they had to turn away from their sin(Barker,
2002).
The portion of Scripture known as the Ten Commandments(Exodus 20:3 17, NIV): was entered
into by God and the people of Israel. The purpose of the Ten Commandments is to point out sin. The
Ten Commandments are some of the most influential words in the entire Bible, and they ve
influenced thousands of years of thinking. Even in day to day lives, the Ten Commandments affect
with how people think about right and wrong.
In (Matthews 5:7) Jesus gets down to business and explains why he is here. It s not to abolish
the law but to fulfill it. (Mathews 5:7) is also called The Sermon on the Mount and covers
several different topics. If the Sermon on the Mount was summarized in a single sentence, it
would be something like: How to live a life that is dedicated to and pleasing to God, free from
hypocrisy, full of love and grace, full of wisdom and discernment. God goes further in this verse to
show what would happen if we follow the Ten Commandments and what will happen if we don t.

How Unionism Has Impacted the Airline Industry in Us
How unionism has impacted the Airline industry in US
Penn State Harrisburg
Abstract In the wake of a sizable slump in demand driven by economic downturns, terrorism attacks
(especially the events of September 11, 2001) as well as increased competition from low cost
carriers, many incumbent U.S. airlines have been attempting a fundamental restructuring of their
operations. Many would argue that a central element in this restructuring should include an
overhaul of the labor management relationship. This paper presents information regarding labor
unions in the airline industry of the US, in order to analyze and then summarize main points of how
they have impacted and affected this industry overall.
1. Overview of the air ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were major concerns regarding increased industry concentration of a few dominant carriers
controlling the market. As the airlines began to face a deregulatory reality of competition and the
resulting pressure on cost containment during the early 1980s, airline management put pressure
on labor to provide the airlines with financial relief, in order to survive. Reducing labor costs
appeared to be the strategy of choice for many carriers in the drive to maintain a competitive
position in the industry if not only for mere survival. Despite the carrier pressure on airline labor
in the deregulatory era, the airline industry remained one of the strongholds of traditional industrial
relations. Union density was estimated to be at 39.5 percent in the late deregulatory period
between 1983 and 1997. On the other hand, representation rates reached almost 50 percent during
this regulatory period 5(Hirsh and Macpherson, 2000). Many believe that deregulation leads to an
erosion of union effectiveness, while regulation leads to increase in union effectiveness. Despite the
change in regulation of the industry, relations and negotiations between airlines and their labor
unions continues to be conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Railway Labor Act
(RLA). This act was passed in 1926 after the railroads and their unions agreed to set in place a legal
framework that

Dominant Value chart, along with Equality, Humanitarianism, Education and Racism/Group
Superiority should be removed. To value humanitarianism, would be to value the whole welfare
of the human race, this would mean that our actions would show that we are willing to be out
there doing what we can to help promote human welfare and social reforms. This would include
social aid to those who need it. Yet, there is this greater value placed on individualism mixed with
achievement and success. It focuses on the person and his or her own personal achievement, the
old adage of picking yourself up from the bootstraps. People who are able to get themselves to a
higher status on their own, are deemed nobler and more respected in our society, versus those who
are trying to survive within our culture using welfare stamps and other government aid. In regards
to education, there is value placed on it with the heavy emphasis of receiving an education, but
there is the contradiction value of efficiency and practicality. The American culture wants to wrap
up education in a box and give it to the student in hopes that the student will come out as an
effective worker in society. This could be seen through the weight of testing. The execution of
these tests is considered a practical and efficient way of assessing how students are doing and more
importantly what they should know at any given grade level. However students do not learn with

His solution was to launch a new campaign promoting reconstruction, or perestroika, to mainly to
decentralize the USSR s government. However Gorbachev soon realized that he could not
implement his new plan without first changing the perspective of the people within the USSR
itself and thus pushed forward his other campaign focusing on openness or glasnost. Gorbachev
s goal with glasnost was to gain the peoples trust. Before Gorbachev people within the Soviet
Union had little to no voice when it came to decisions within their own country, usually just
having to accept whatever choices that the leaders in Moscow had made. He tried to make the
Soviet government appear more trustworthy than it had ever seemed before by making the
government management of the country almost transparent. It was a policy of openness and
discussions of political and social issues would be open for discussion. This meant that every
action the government took would be public knowledge and open to debate. The results of
glasnost also caused a decline in censorship, which lead new found freedom of speech, which in
turn led to increased criticism of decisions that the Soviet Union had made prior. Media outlets now
were allowed to voice their own opinions and not worry about the ramifications in doing so because
glasnost was slowly loosening the stranglehold that the Communist party held over the media. The
media began to expose numerous social and economic problems that the

Improving Academic Outcomes For Aboriginal And Torres...
Introduction Improving academic outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders is mired in
inherited and contemporary difficulties. Because of poor policies and pedagogy, generations fear
and lack confidence in the education system (Harrison and Sellwood, 2013). It is, therefore,
imperative that teachers have a range of resources and strategies for adapting the curriculum to the
needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. This should include fostering pride in identity,
making connections to community and land, and respecting language variation and culture. In
doing so, teachers meet expectations for Australian professional teaching standards and the
community. A. Inclusive practice for Indigenous students Fostering pride Teachers should foster
self worth, confidence and self efficacy among Aboriginal students. This is important because it
can help overcome intergenerational trauma (Menzies, 2013). Schools have played a significant
role in creating this trauma in the past through successive bad policy and pedagogy (Harrison
Sellwood, 2016). For example, past practices included low expectations and inappropriate
materials with an aim to assimilate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders (Harrison Sellwood,
2016). Good pedagogy develops students based on pride and confidence and negates shame and
confusion (Goodman cited in Department of education and training WA, 2007). For example, the

In Brazil, staff from an emergency section can quickly recognize the people that are bitten by this

The most prominent impotency medications are Viagra, Cialis and Levtra works by hindering this

The arachnid s substance works in a different way, influencing a prior stride in the erection

numbers that the average everyday person wouldn t know, or care about. But when one of the
thirteen million skaters who don t have a place to skate come and skates in front of their store,
suddenly they care. In Nacogdoches this is a real problem, and I have personally observed skaters

I will not deny it is bad when you have younger kids staying out late at night to skate. This not

But there are also irresponsible skaters, who care whether or not they mess something up or

Nacogdoches it would greatly alleviate many of these problems. People are going to skate
whether people like it or not. But with a skate park, the community would have more control

attract people to come skate, who would otherwise not want to deal with the problems skating on

The main result of the election of 1800 was the peaceful transition of political power and the tie
between the two democratic republican candidates, Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr with

to Alexander Hamilton s help and persuasion by choosing Thomas Jefferson as the lesser of two

A non disclosure agreement (NDA), also known as a confidentiality agreement (CA), is a legitimate

Things Fall Apart Flaws
One of the major flaws in society is the lack of people with strong convictions. While Things Fall
Apart, by Chinua Abeche, is a novel revealing how the European invasion ultimately leads to the
destruction of the African society, Chinua demonstrates an underlying message about how some
internal flaws also lead to a person s or society s demise. The way people begin to follow the
ways of the Christians and the lack of action regarding the missionary invasions are key factors
in the ruin of the Ibo society. As a whole, the Ibo people do not stand on a clear conviction; thus
they fall for another belief. A major cause of the collapse of Okonkwo s society is the scarcity of

Last night my travels took me to Carlisle, Ohio to watch the hometown Indians host the Eaton
Eagles. This was my first trip to Carlisle and it would mark the first time since the 2015 season,
that I have watched the Indians. I would be seeing the Eagles for the first time ever.
I expected a much larger crowd but as many times this season it was not the case, but those who
were there got to see a good competitive game, that was entertaining especially from the defensive
side of things.
The Indians defense would set the tone early in this one, when Daniel Smith teamed up with
teammate Gage Smith, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heading into the second quarter this one looked very even, even though the Eagles offense was yet
to soar, while the Indians offense had shown a glimpse of going on the warpath a couple of times.
Just twenty six seconds into the second quarter Moore fumble the ball and scooping it up and
going about fifty six yards for the score for the Eagles was Chip Parker. Parker easily outran the
offense, who looked like a fighter, who had just been tagged by a Ali right cross. The pointafter
kick was missed causing this to stay a 13 7 Eagles lead.
The Indians offense would work the ball down to the Eagles thirty four yard line and from there
Chambers electrified the crowd, with a Archie Griffin like run, back when he was running for the
buckeyes. The point after kick gave the Indians the lead at 14 13, with 5:31left in the half. On the
drive the Eagles defense again had problems tackling and this really led to a lot of extra yards for
the Indians.
With 3:41 it appeared their was pass interference on the Indians receiver, but the ref said the ball
was tipped before the interference happened and this led to a interception by Moore on the pass
thrown by Ryan Venable. This play really seem to change the game and in my way of thinking the
Eagles fought hard but never overcame this call.
Defense was big again, with :27 seconds left in the half, when Moore was taken down by #54(Not
on the Eagles roster)

Van Gogh s The Courtesan An Image of Utopia
Beginning in the 1870s and extending into the 1900s, two major styles of art became prevalent in
the country of France; Impressionism and Post Impressionism. Impressionism resulted from the
feelings of chaos and instability from a major increase in population, showing scenes in a sketch
like manner through a portrayal of senses. By the mid 1880s, Post Impressionism emerged, causing
a return from the spontaneity that was missing traditional elements and explored expressing
emotion while still using formal elements. Vincent Van Goghused the Post Impressionist influence

The main subject, the woman, was essentially copied and enlarged from a woodblock print by
Keisai Eisen featured on the cover of a popular magazine in France from May 1886. Though the
background of the garden scene does demonstrate some use of perspective, the main central image
of the Japanese woman remains very flat and one dimensional, a technique typical in wood block
prints. The dark outlines on a majority of the environment is reminiscent of methods used to
produce a Japanese print. He used many Japanese motifs in the work, such as the bamboo, water

Jonas Use Of Memories In The Giver
Without memories, life is meaningless. But what does this statement actually mean? This essay

Jonas was given makes a huge impact himself.
What are memories? Jonas and everyone in the community had no idea what memories were, before
Jonas met The Giver. Memories is by which the mind stores and remembers information, also
something remembered from the past. The first memory Jonas was given was sledding down the
hill in the snow.(103) Jonas thought this was a very thrilling memory.
Without memories no one knows what the past was or how the current life their living in, was
made. ВЁAs weeks went by Jonas learned more and more memoriesВЁ (122). Jonas

The phylogeny described in this paper is based on molecular data (similarities in DNA sequences)
10. Based on that phylogeny, write in the sister taxon (taxon A) to Proboscidea.
Give the formal name.
Taxon A or Sirenia Proboscidea
11. Write in the taxon (taxon B) that is sister to the clade composed of (Proboscidea + Taxon A).
Give formal name
Taxon B or Taxon A Proboscidea Hyracoidea
12. Perform an internet search for these two taxa and find out their common names.
What are their common names? Describe each.
The common name for Sirenia is Sea Cow. Sea cows are fully aquatic, herbivorous mammals that
appear fat. They have forelimbs used for steering and a tail used for paddling. The common name
for Hyracoidea are hyraxes. Hyraxes are well furred animals with short tails and have poor internal
temperature regulation.
What was your thought/reaction upon discovering what these creatures are?
My thought reaction was how can animals that look nothing alike be similar to an elephant if they
visually look different.
Believe it or not, there are morphological (phenotypic) similarities as well as dietary and
behavioral similarities between all of these taxa. BEFORE molecular data was available, scientists
already suspected that these groups were

Cracker Personal Response
In the book Cracker there are many ways that each character survives like Cracker the dog. She
was taken from her owner Willie because they had to move and their apartment didn t allow
dogs and that was tough on her. She survived when she was sent to the war and met Rick. If
Cracker wasn t sent to the war and she went to the pound she most likely would have been put
down. Cracker at first tried to fight everyone then when she met her dog handler she liked him.
So she decided to let him in. They had trouble at first but Cracker ended up being the best dog in

training and working hard everyday before and during the war. If Cracker hadn t learned how to
find booby traps her, Rick and many other soldiers would ve died. Cracker saved many people s
lives including Rick s. If Rick hadn t of bonded with Cracker then he would not have been able
to tell when she found something. For example, Rick knew Cracker had found something even
when everyone just thought it was just a pile of leaves. It turned out to be a hole filled with
sharp bamboo sticks covered with feces so you would get infected. Rick also had to survive
when he couldn t find Cracker. He wrote letters to everyone he could think of. He even got

Terrorism Between Iran And The Middle East
It is a common conception that Obama s prior efforts of engagement with the Iranian government
have set many precedents for how the U.S is to communicate with Iran (and the Middle East) in the
future, with some even referencing Obama s attempts to amend the relationship between the two
countries as monumental for not just the political legacy of the U.S, but specifically, the Obama
administration as well. The relationship between the two countries seems to be primarily focused
on the fact that the U.S is trying to control how Iran manages their nuclear weapons program, as the
Obama Administration is unsure of what the nuclear capacity of the country is, and thusly, this may
severe and cause suspicion to arise not just with reference to neighboring countries, but also one
that connects to dangers that are prevalent on an international level; this is important because we
are not aware of what the destructive capacity of the weapons are as a whole, due to the secretism
that the Iranian regime s nuclear program undertakes when looking into building their weaponry.
The Obama Administration seems to have taken the approach of establishing strong diplomatic ties
in order to prevent Iran from engaging in any acts of mass terrorism, as they have priorily
expressed interest in taking action against Israel. In some cases the U.S utilized sanctions, some
which caused disruption in their oil industry, thusly impacting their economy to a certain degree.

Romeo And Juliet Pen Names Analysis
What s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, wrote
William Shakespeare in his play, Romeo and Juliet. Delving into this concept, if names don t affect
the quality of their works, why would authors use pseudonyms instead of their real names? There
are several cases, from Charlotte BrontГ« to Stephen King, where authors chose a pen namefor their
own reasons. Some needed a fake name to compensate for their social status, some to protect their
integrity, or just to express more of what they do best. Whatever the reason, authors throughout the
ages have utilized the liberty of an alias to their advantage, spewing out ideas onto paper, and
publishing volumes that were bound to make an impact. If we look back on the 19th century, we
see masterpieces like Jane Eyre that dared to shatter the standard of the quintessential Victorian
woman, obedient and tucked away at home. In an article by the National Endowment for the
Humanities, Charlotte BrontГ«, the author of Jane Eyre, was described as dissatisfied by a culture

Pen names, created for whatever reason have always allowed authors to express themselves
more freely. Stephen King, known for his horror novels, wrote under both his real name and
under the disguise of Richard Bachman (Source 4). At the time the alias was created, the
unwritten rule for publishers was a publishing limit of one book per year. With two identities,
King could produce twice as much work, writes J. L. Campbell in the article, Who is Richard
Bachman? (Source 4) In order to make his alter ego more realistic, Stephen King planned out the
life of Richard Bachman with a family and jobs. With Bachman, King was not only able to double
his work, but also scrutinize over the ingredients of his success. Today, if Stephen King wanted to
publish multiple books, which he does, endless publishers would provide the

False Memory In Elizabeth Loftus
Forgetting Paper
Anthony J. Hebdo
Ohio Christian University

Forgetting Paper
Elizabeth Loftus is a cognitive psychologist who studies memory. More specifically she studies
false memories and how memories can be changed by things we are told. Facts, ideas, suggestions
and other post event information can modify our memories. In the video, Loftus opens with a story
about a man named Steve Titus. He was a convicted of a crime he didn t commit. The victim that
identified him first told the police that Steve Titus s picture looked closest to the perpetrator. Later,
during the trial the same person identified him with absolute certainty. How is this possible? False
memories.
The video goes on to explain that Steve Titus s case is not the only case where someone was
convicted because of false memories. In the United States, there have been about 300 cases where
innocent people have been convicted of crimes they didn t commit. Of those cases about 225 are
due to faulty memory, faulty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book states, your memory is only as good as your last memory. The fewer times you use it, the
more unchanged it is (Myers Dewall, 2014). This means that to some degree all memory is false.
When continuously exposed to misinformation it is called the misinformation effect. The
misinformation effect is when a memory has been corrupted by misleading information (Myers
Dewall, 2014). When exposed to misleading information, we tend to misremember. Hearing a vivid
retelling of a story or event could implant false memories. Misinformation and source amnesia
happen without our awareness. Because of this it is hard for people to scrutinize false memories
from the real memories. For example, as adults some often tell stories of their childhoods. They
might not actually remember everything that happed so they fill in the blanks. By filling in these
blanks the more they tell the story the more the filled in parts become false

European Colonialism, Imperialism, and Cultural...
European Imperialism and Cultural Superiority
Many factors contributed to the colonization of Africa by European powers between 1895 and
1905. Among these factors were the effects of European history, the growing capitalist economy,
and the growing competition between European powers. Most important was the belief that
European culture was superior to African culture. During the height of imperialism, the vast
majority of the African continent was controlled by Europe (Г¬ExtentГ® 19). It is important to
understand what gave the momentum for European dominance at the time.
Imperialism is present in European history, beginning with the Roman Empire (Lenin). Lugard

Europeans found opportunity to create monopolies in the newly conquered lands (Lenin). It was
also necessary to find new sources of raw materials, in order to keep production going (Hobson).
This was largely a result of the Industrial Revolution (Hobson). Increased demand for raw
materials led to increased demand for imperialism (Lenin). Cecil Rhodes, a British advocate for
imperialism, believed it would solve EnglandГs domestic economic problems (Lenin). People who
were likely to gain wealth from colonization further pushed the movement (Schumpeter).
The element of competition between European powers played a role in imperialism in Africa. When
England was the only dominant economic power, imperialism was unnecessary (Hobson). When
other nations began to gain power and become significant competition for each other, the argument
developed that it was important to stop rivals from gaining the upper hand (Paton). Paton writes
about the importance of keeping colonial gains for Britain (Paton). Countries felt that they had no
choice in seeking colonies because they would not be able to compete economically if they didnГt
(Schumpeter).
Religion was a strong influence in pushing Europeans towards imperialism. They believed that it
was important to teach Christian beliefs to the Africans (Lugard). Missionaries went to Africa,

The Process of Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is the process undergone by plants consisting of a series of chemical reactions that
require four factors; water, carbon dioxide, radiant energy and temperature using chlorophyll
molecules to trap radiant energy from the sun resulting in the making of glucose and oxygen as bi
products. The process of photosynthesisprovides plants with the food and energy they need to
grow. Plants that produce their own food are called autotrophic plants. Not only do these plants
make food for themselves but they also serve as primary producers. Without photosynthesis the
oxygen levels in the atmosphere would not be replenished. The process of photosynthesis is divided
into two main parts. The first phase is the light dependent phase which... Show more content on

Meaning the perfect balance between light/ dark and day/ night is needed in plants to ensure
healthy growth. Other factors affecting the process of photosynthesis in a plant need to be taken
into consideration as well. The plant needs to have the right water available, the right
temperature conditions and the right about of carbon dioxide present to ensure the correct
results. To improve this experiment I would have used a potted plant to ensure my plant wouldn
t die during the movement of the stem into the water as air bubbles could be made and the plant
would die. I would leave my plant for more than 48 hours to ensure the plant is properly de
starched. I would do the experiment on two or more leaves so I would be able to compare
results at the end of my second starch test to ensure no human error occurred during the
experiment. In conclusion the results have shown that sunlight is a necessity for the process of
photosynthesis to occur in a plant, proving my hypothesis that light is a necessity for the process
of photosynthesis to occur in a plant to be true. hold the structure of the cell in place insuring to

Comparing Gilgamesh And Noah s Flood
Few stories written in ancient times, such as the ones about Noah and his flood and Gilgamesh
and his flood, have been able to survive the test of time. This why when books as well written as
these two are found from ancient times, people tend to be drawn toward them. Books such as
these are often very thoroughly studied and observed just because of how long ago they were
written. It s enjoyable to experience the type of writing a completely different time period was
able to produce. However, with all the praise the pieces get, comes great skepticism as well. A
major event in both pieces of writing is a divine inspired flood. Both books also have very
similar characteristics within each of their flood stories. The story of Noah s flood was based off
of the flood of Gilgamesh and the timing of the pieces being written and the similarities between
the stories are the reason why.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Skeptics claim that the flood narrative of Genesis is a rewritten version of an original myth
(freerepublic.com, 1). The myth they are referring to is that of Gilgamesh and his flood. It is
believed that the books could have been written up to 2800 years apart. Knowing the difference
in time between the writing of the two books is an essential step in understanding how Noah s
flood was just retold from the original flood of Gilgamesh. The most important part of revealing
the copying of Gilgamesh s flood is in all the different characteristics the floods share. Some of
the similarities are very striking (icr.org, 1). This quote is referring to the connections the author
makes earlier in the article between the two flood stories. Some of these connections include the
floods being caused by upset gods, the bringing of all species of animals on board, and the landing

Homosexuality In Gatsby
Many people believe Nick has romantic feelings toward Gatsby, but many are in disbelief. There are
various amounts of instances throughout the book where Nick makes unobvious homosexual
comments or remarks. When this book was written, being homosexual was mistaken, very frowned
upon, and even illegal. F. Scott Fitzgeraldhad to make the topic of homosexuality very quiet, just
like the alcohol and the bootlegging. Alcohol and bootlegging are just as illegal as
homosexuality, sp F. Scott Fitzgerald made it very hard to pick out these topics. Nick has to keep
his feelings toward Gatsby to himself, and has only ever says something homoeratic to Gatsby

Nick sees Gatsby s flaws after he dies, but was blinded to them while he was alive.
Before Gatsby dies, Nick says the one thing to Gatsby that people can argue is a homosexual
statement, and definitely proves how Nick has been blinded to Gatsby s flaws. Nick says to
Gatsby, They re a rotten crowd...You re worth the whole damn bunch put together (Fitzgerald
154). Nick saying this can be controversial in a couple of ways. When Nick says The whole damn
bunch put together , he is mostly referring to Gatsby, Daisy, Tom and Jordan. Daisy is his cousin
and that makes Tom family by marriage. Jordan is a woman Nick had a romantic relationship
with. For Nick to say that Gatsby, out of all these people, is the best out of them shows a lot
about Nick and his feelings toward Gatsby. For him to choose a man he had recently met over
his family or someone he has had a relationship with is very interesting. Most people will choose
their family or someone they are romantically involved with over a friend. Thus proving that
Gatsby is more than a friend to Nick. This statement can also be controversial because Gatsby is
not a saint. Daisy, Tom, and Jordan are all terrible people. Daisy lead on two men at the same
time, one being her husband. Daisy also killed a woman and will not take the blame for it. Tom
cheats on his wife with the wife of one of his

  • 2. Misrepresentation Of Chinese Culture Nowadays, some chinese culture are misrepresented by people in other countries. In the essay,I will talk about three kinds of misrepresentation of Chinese culture. Due to the movie montage and some exaggerated shooting techniques, some foreigners have a deep misunderstanding of Chinese Kung Fu (like Kung Fu dodge and the internal strength). However, the essence of Chinese martial arts is to move as much in order to keep fit and keep calm. People who practice the martial arts, naturally have more strength and good at fighting. But all these achievements were based on the perennial hard work. It s ridiculous to consider using a few days to learn Chinese Kung Fu. When I talked with my American friends, the most common answers I get are Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Kungfu. Honestly, kung fu is such a mysterious thing to me. The representation of Kung Fu in China has a large difference from those in the US movies. We call it the type of martial arts Wu Shu (Wu refers to martial arts;Shu means a hero). Because I grew up with a lot of martial arts novels, I was glad meet a martial arts artist called Christopher Pei who was the first Kung Fu artist I have ever seen. The first thing master Pei told me was Kung Fu s misunderstanding of martial arts ( martial arts or discipline ,an exhibition of traditional Chinese martial arts and all in one sports.) To be aware of this fact, I felt a bit disappointed. I believe that Kung Fu is a generation after generation of secrets, only in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. William Carlos Williams Philomena Andronica And Gertrude... William Carlos Williams Philomena Andronica and Gertrude Stein s Identity, a poem are both visually and tonally very different texts. However, Stein and Williams have both used similar approaches to literary form in their poems as can be seen in their non traditional approach to meaning generation and rejection of grammatical convention. The poems also both show an interest in the notion of identityand it s fluidity, although Stein employs repeated images in her investigation whilst Williams approach lies in his clever use of parenthesis and vignette form. The two texts both take an approach to punctuation and formatting that strays from grammatical convention. The passage from Stein s Identity, a Poem presents a syntactic exploration of the idea identity and self. By rejecting the form that the reader expects of a poem, Stein guides her readers to an understanding of how language shapes identity. One example of this is the use of a full stop where grammatical rule dictates there should be a question mark, and if the little dog is not there is it alone. The lack of expected punctuation makes the reader question the idea that meaning is dependent on grammatical conventions; why do we need a question mark in order to understand the words as a question? Stein also uses a mixture of prose and poetic voice in her poem. By contrasting lines such as I say two dogs but say a dog and a dog, which is distinctly poetic, with lines with a prosaic tone The person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Fate And Free Will In Oedipus The King Do you really have a choice? Many people believe that there is no such thing as fate. That a person can decide their own fate and nothing is set in stone. Although, people today don t think the same as the people from the ancient societies. Back then, a person s fate was handed down from the gods to oracles and was decided before the child was born. People had no choice back then, what the gods say aren t taken lightly. But yet, people still attempted to trick fate and escape their destined paths. And in one of the many ancient greeks stories, Oedipus Rex, a major theme was do not try to outsmart fate . Throughout the story, many people attempted to escape or outsmart fate, but instead fate outsmarted them, leading them down their already chosen paths. Nevertheless, the main characters in Oedipus Rex, the kings and queen, who thought themselves worthy enough to test fate, seemed to be the ones to lose to fate in the end. It s important to realize, that the first ones to test fate were King Laios and Queen Jocasta. In Scene II, Jocasta tells Oedipus that she... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On a mission to find the truth of King Laios death, Oedipus finds out the truth behind his birth. When Oedipus was born his fate was already decided for him, and no amount of running could change his or anyone else s fate. Oedipus would not die in the woods, nor would he escape far enough from his family, nor would his ending be a happy one. In Exodus, it is known that Jocasta killed herself and Oedipus has blinded himself, so that he may not see the horrors of his life. Near the end of the story, Oedipus is seen with his two daughters of the first and last time, in Oedipus Rex. He proceeds to tell them: Then, whom / Can you ever marry? There are no bridegrooms for you, / And your lives must wither away in sterile dreaming (Sophocles 78 79). And with so, completing the last and final piece of Oedipus s ... • 6. The Role Of Graphene On Technological Development Today The role of graphene in technological development today and in the future In recent years, the field of nanotechnology developed at a spectacular rate. Scientists argued that substances behaved differently in a bigger (macro) level compared to a micro level. One of the major growths of nanotechnology originated from a simple pencil lead; a humble pencil lead that breaks easily with small amount of force. However, when we divide the pencil lead into just one atom thick, suddenly its strength and conductivity behavior changes significantly. In fact, the material is recorded for its amazing feat. It is recorded as the best electrical and thermal conductor in the world. Even though the material is known to be harder than a diamond, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first ever recorded history of graphene occurred in 1859 where Benjamin Brodie mixed graphite with strong acids (Geim, 2012). He thought that he found a new allotrope (structure) of carbon. However, we now know that instead of finding a new allotrope of carbon, he found graphene oxide (Geim). In 1962, German chemist Hanns Peter Boehm picked up where Brodie left off and produced a residue of graphene oxide which is now known as graphene. They then introduced the term graphene for the first time in history. He gave the name graphene based on the combination of graphite, its raw material, and the suffix ene to signify its aromatic hydrocarbon characteristics (Geim). However, it was Andre Geim and Kostya Novoselov who made a big hit through their paper in graphene. These scientists from Manchester University discovered graphene through an unorthodox method. In the book Graphene: Fundamentals and emergent applications, Jamie H. Warner (2012) stated that how these scientists used a scotch tape to discover graphene. They started off with graphite of a pencil, and started removing layers after layers until they were left with a single layer of graphite called graphene. For their ingenious yet simple technique, they were awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics for their groundbreaking experiments regarding the two dimensional material graphene (Warner). Before the discovery of graphene in real life, scientists were skeptical with the idea of a 2D carbon based ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver, many characters have been introduced to the feeling of abandonment. Abandoning or being abandoned is constant in the novel and Kingsolver uses it to link all of the characters together. Taylor Greer has lived in Kentucky all her life. Yet, the life available to her in Kentucky is not what she always dreamed of: none of these sights had so far inspired me to get hogtied to a future as a tobacco farmer s wife (3). • 9. My First Love Essay Everyone loves to tell the story of their first love, and the beautiful lesson they learned through the adventure. You hear the phrase, you ll never forget your first as you see a small smirk flourish across the faces of people who remember their story. Through all the experiences shared, I never would have believed the result of falling out of love. All of the novels and sweet smiles never hinted about the time I would end up crumbled down on my bedroom s floor, with two years of a person s presence surrounding a broken heart. Nobody will speak of watching your first love leave for college, knowing that they will want to move on. I went through the stages of heartbreak that left me with a cracked and bruised heart. The recovery and journey of finding acceptance and love for myself, created a book of my personal lessons. Going back to that summer is like reading the final book of your favorite series, you soak in the words trying to read slow, savoring. Completing the series leaves a bitter sweet moment, comparing to the emotions that overcame my mind through the process of watching him go. However, it was not beautiful and bittersweet as romance novels paint your first love out to be. Each page in our novel transformed from love to a war zone, as loyalty became nonexistent, and trust only present in waves. The summer was beautiful, but in my heart I knew that this novel was only a fairy tale coming to it s end. There was nothing left to be painted. That hot and humid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Geographic Differences Between Canada And The United States Although they bear some superficial similarities, the differences between America and Canada are striking. There are many differences between Canada and the United States such as ethnicity, geography, population, politics, and many more. Of all the differences the focus of this paper will be geography. Geographical differences can be seen through the land of the United Statesand Canada. The geographical land known as the United States was not formed in a day. It took many years to formulate into what is seen today. For example, the Appalachian Mountains were formed when two plates collided together causing a buckling in the Earth s crust. They now form a boundary of the east coast to the remainder of the country. On the west coast, one can find the Rockies which were formed by the westward shift of the North American tectonic plate and its collision with the Pacific tectonic plate causing folding forces. The Rockies actually connect the United States to Canada. Another example of the different geographical aspects of Canada and the United States is the Grand Canyon. • 11. Setting And Symbolism In The Piano Lesson By August Wilson A haunting of the past In August Wilson s play, The piano lesson, the author takes his readers on a journey through the life of the Charles family. Sister and brother battle each other over a piano that tells their family s history. Through examining their history, Wilson uses setting and symbolism to convey his personal belief in the importance of one s ancestral family roots and the significant impact it has in a person s everyday life. The author uses setting to introduce the significance in the ancestry of the Charles family and further examine the troubling state of the current generation. Wilson grew up in a non wealthy colored district in which he set most of his plays (Fisher, James), so there is no surprise that Wilson s play has black roots that are relatable to his past ,also acting as salute to people of color (Gantt, Patricia). His strong connection to African American roots are why censors ,who have criticized Wilsons work, applaud him on his capability to make interesting characters and pull from African American folklore (Bloom, Harold), and in doing so, he shared much of his native craft and technique (Tracie, Guzzio). A man owns the Charles family, whose grandparents had ownership of his grandparents, and he happens to also be man who held the title of Robert Stutter (Bryer, Jackson R., and Mary C. Hartig, Wilson 1.2.8). In the play, a major flashback occurs on a slave plantation where the older Charles family must to pick cotton (2.1.7). • 12. The Evil Of Revenge, And The Evil Of Revenge The single most destructive force in this world is revenge. An immense amount of wars, murders, division, and hatred is due to the evil that is revenge. There are many famous forms of literature that discuss revenge. One is Of Revenge by Sir Francis Bacon. In this essay Bacon explains the evil of revenge and why it shouldn t be taken. Also, down playing revenge, Robert Kennedy gave a speech called A Eulogy for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Immediately following the death of Dr. King, Kennedy pleads with the African American community and America to forgive this offense instead of taking revenge for King s murder. The final piece of media that discusses revenge does it in a different manor. Edgar Allen Poe writes about revenge in a short story called The Cask of Amontillado. The plot of this story is that of a man named Montresor desperately seeks revenge upon a colleague and eventually murders him by trapping him in catacombs deep underground. No matter what the circumstances, revenge should never be taken because men become controlled and destroyed by revenge, and revenge creates division among people. People are constantly being commanded by the temptation of revenge and demolished by the aftermath of taking it. I forced the last stone into place; I plastered it up. For more than a half century no one has disturbed them (Poe 8). Essay On Pw Botha According to Hermann Giliomee, President PW Botha s speech on 15 August 1985 to the National Party (NP) of Natal was the turning point at which white rule in South Africa failed to turn. Botha was expected to use the speech, broadcast to a huge international audience, to turn around the South African crisis that had worsened after the outbreak of uprisings in the townships in September 1984. Spurning the expectations of bold reforms, Botha projected himself as the uncompromising leader of a white minority determined to fight to the end for its survival. The speech triggered a massive outflow of capital and intensified sanctions against South Africa. A line in Botha s speech, Today we have crossed the Rubicon , promptly became the object of scorn and ridicule. The Elements Of Style By William Strunk Jr. William Strunk Jr., an English professor at Cornell University in 1919 required his students to have the textbook The Elements of Style, written by William Strunk Jr. himself. It was referred to as the little book and was a forty three page summary of the case for cleanliness, accuracy and brevity in the use of English (Strunk White, 2000). These rules are in the form of sharp commands, shining light on Sergeant Strunk s personality and approach to teaching. E.B. White, a former student of Strunk, revised the book he was given, years after his professor passed away. White does not soften the direct orders of the original book, but preserves the flavor of his discontent while enlarging the scope of the discussion (Strunk White, 2000 xiv). The Elements of Styleprovides the readers with a convenient reference for grammar, while emphasizing the importance of omitting needless words, using concrete language and active voice all in a suitable design. When he delivered his oration on brevity to the class, he leaned forward over his desk, grasped his coast lapels in his hands, and, in a husky, conspiratorial voice, said, Rule Seventeen. Omit needless words! Omit needless words! Omit needless words! (Strunk White, 2000, xv). Strunk provides an image for the most important aspect of his book. The program is to support the transition from high school to college and throughout the program you gain knowledge and tips not only just about the college but about yourself. Using tools from class activities like SWOT and True Colors that helped me really understand who I am and what are my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Within this essay I will share with you my SWOT analysis and the things I learned about myself during the last few weeks. Strengths Personal values I believe speak a great deal about a person and who they are and I learned that my values reflect just that. During New Start we had an activity in class that forced us to pick from a list of personal values and narrow them down and rank them in order of importance. My top values included family, friends, school, and independence just to name a few. This activity was especially challenging for me but in the end it helped me really look at what truly is important to me. I had to apply this lesson from class in my life sooner than I expected. My grandmother passed away during New Start and I had to decide if I wanted to miss school and be with family but that also meant by missing school I d be missing out on important information. In the end I choose to go to school the next day and be with my family afterwards. That decision alone was very hard because in a situation such as mine there was a conflict of my personal values my family is very important to me but school is just as important to me. Although it was difficult for me to make that decision but the fact I had the ability to choose between two of my own personal values is why I ve chosen to place knowing and understanding my personal values as a strength. I know that throughout life there will be times when I will have to choose once again between my personal values and as student like I ve mentioned earlier I m going to make those decisions based on what matters to me and what won t always be there in the end. Also, I felt uncomfortable being in the professor s home since it was the first time I had socialized with a professor outside of a school environment. I later discussed the event with the other student to inquire if the situation also made her uncomfortable. The individual disclosed that she did not feel uncomfortable since this was not her first time having dinner with the professor and his wife. I did not talk about how this incident made me feel with my professor. The reason the boundaries were unclear in this situation was that there was a multiple relationship. Ever since Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, God s desire has been to restore the broken relationship between God and people. God made a covenant. A covenant is a promise from God that can never be broken. The covenant stated that God wanted a relationship with the people, but in order to have this loving relationship, they had to turn away from their sin(Barker, 2002). Many would argue that a central element in this restructuring should include an overhaul of the labor management relationship. This paper presents information regarding labor unions in the airline industry of the US, in order to analyze and then summarize main points of how they have impacted and affected this industry overall. 1. Overview of the air ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were major concerns regarding increased industry concentration of a few dominant carriers controlling the market. As the airlines began to face a deregulatory reality of competition and the resulting pressure on cost containment during the early 1980s, airline management put pressure on labor to provide the airlines with financial relief, in order to survive. Reducing labor costs appeared to be the strategy of choice for many carriers in the drive to maintain a competitive position in the industry if not only for mere survival. Despite the carrier pressure on airline labor in the deregulatory era, the airline industry remained one of the strongholds of traditional industrial relations. Union density was estimated to be at 39.5 percent in the late deregulatory period between 1983 and 1997. On the other hand, representation rates reached almost 50 percent during this regulatory period 5(Hirsh and Macpherson, 2000). Many believe that deregulation leads to an erosion of union effectiveness, while regulation leads to increase in union effectiveness. Proposal for a Skate Park in Nacogdoches Essay There are about two thousand skate parks in the whole United States, and in contrast to this there are approximately thirteen million skateboarders in the U.S alone. These are really shocking numbers that the average everyday person wouldn t know, or care about. But when one of the thirteen million skaters who don t have a place to skate come and skates in front of their store, suddenly they care. In Nacogdoches this is a real problem, and I have personally observed skaters getting told to leave someplace time and time again. The reason of this problem is that there is no designated place to skateboardin Nacogdoches, such as a skate park. This not only puts them in a bad place but gives them plenty of opportunities to break the law or be mistaken for doing something that they may not have done, but at the time there the one taking the blame. There are many respectable skaters who love to skate and don t do anything wrong. But there are also irresponsible skaters, who care whether or not they mess something up or break it. For all these reasons I think that if there was to be a skate park built here in Nacogdoches it would greatly alleviate many of these problems. People are going to skate whether people like it or not. But with a skate park, the community would have more control over were these people do there skating. As well as this it would allow the parents of their younger skaters to not have to worry as much about were their child is. The park would be new and clean, in addition it would provide a safe environment to skate in. Moreover it would help attract people to come skate, who would otherwise not want to deal with the problems skating on the streets bring. From people I have talked to in the past there are a few things that they would be concerned about if there was a skate park in our town. These problems consist of: graffiti, vandalism, drug use, and negative influences. My answer to this these problems is first off, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When first read them, I found some of them are interesting and easy to understand, at least part of the meaning, while some of them are confusing. The relationship between the two countries seems to be primarily focused on the fact that the U.S is trying to control how Iran manages their nuclear weapons program, as the Obama Administration is unsure of what the nuclear capacity of the country is, and thusly, this may severe and cause suspicion to arise not just with reference to neighboring countries, but also one that connects to dangers that are prevalent on an international level; this is important because we are not aware of what the destructive capacity of the weapons are as a whole, due to the secretism that the Iranian regime s nuclear program undertakes when looking into building their weaponry. The Process of Photosynthesis Photosynthesis is the process undergone by plants consisting of a series of chemical reactions that require four factors; water, carbon dioxide, radiant energy and temperature using chlorophyll molecules to trap radiant energy from the sun resulting in the making of glucose and oxygen as bi products. The process of photosynthesisprovides plants with the food and energy they need to grow. Plants that produce their own food are called autotrophic plants. Not only do these plants make food for themselves but they also serve as primary producers. Without photosynthesis the oxygen levels in the atmosphere would not be replenished. The process of photosynthesis is divided into two main parts. The first phase is the light dependent phase which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meaning the perfect balance between light/ dark and day/ night is needed in plants to ensure healthy growth. Other factors affecting the process of photosynthesis in a plant need to be taken into consideration as well. The plant needs to have the right water available, the right temperature conditions and the right about of carbon dioxide present to ensure the correct results. To improve this experiment I would have used a potted plant to ensure my plant wouldn t die during the movement of the stem into the water as air bubbles could be made and the plant would die. I would leave my plant for more than 48 hours to ensure the plant is properly de starched. I would do the experiment on two or more leaves so I would be able to compare results at the end of my second starch test to ensure no human error occurred during the experiment. In conclusion the results have shown that sunlight is a necessity for the process of photosynthesis to occur in a plant, proving my hypothesis that light is a necessity for the process of photosynthesis to occur in a plant to be true. hold the structure of the cell in place insuring to keep all of the sacs at a distance from each other and maximising the efficiency of the organelle. The purpose of the chloroplast is to make sugars and starches which is the food to the plant the animals that consume it. There are three types of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Comparing Gilgamesh And Noah s Flood Few stories written in ancient times, such as the ones about Noah and his flood and Gilgamesh and his flood, have been able to survive the test of time. This why when books as well written as these two are found from ancient times, people tend to be drawn toward them. Books such as these are often very thoroughly studied and observed just because of how long ago they were written. It s enjoyable to experience the type of writing a completely different time period was able to produce. However, with all the praise the pieces get, comes great skepticism as well. A major event in both pieces of writing is a divine inspired flood. Both books also have very similar characteristics within each of their flood stories. The story of Noah s flood was based off of the flood of Gilgamesh and the timing of the pieces being written and the similarities between the stories are the reason why.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Skeptics claim that the flood narrative of Genesis is a rewritten version of an original myth (freerepublic.com, 1). The myth they are referring to is that of Gilgamesh and his flood. It is believed that the books could have been written up to 2800 years apart. Knowing the difference in time between the writing of the two books is an essential step in understanding how Noah s flood was just retold from the original flood of Gilgamesh. The most important part of revealing the copying of Gilgamesh s flood is in all the different characteristics the floods share. Some of the similarities are very striking (icr.org, 1). This quote is referring to the connections the author makes earlier in the article between the two flood stories. Some of these connections include the floods being caused by upset gods, the bringing of all species of animals on board, and the landing of the ship on a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Homosexuality In Gatsby Many people believe Nick has romantic feelings toward Gatsby, but many are in disbelief. There are various amounts of instances throughout the book where Nick makes unobvious homosexual comments or remarks. When this book was written, being homosexual was mistaken, very frowned upon, and even illegal. F. Scott Fitzgeraldhad to make the topic of homosexuality very quiet, just like the alcohol and the bootlegging. Alcohol and bootlegging are just as illegal as homosexuality, sp F. Scott Fitzgerald made it very hard to pick out these topics. Nick has to keep his feelings toward Gatsby to himself, and has only ever says something homoeratic to Gatsby once. Every other time Nick makes a gay remark, it is too himself as he writes about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nick sees Gatsby s flaws after he dies, but was blinded to them while he was alive. Before Gatsby dies, Nick says the one thing to Gatsby that people can argue is a homosexual statement, and definitely proves how Nick has been blinded to Gatsby s flaws. Nick says to Gatsby, They re a rotten crowd...You re worth the whole damn bunch put together (Fitzgerald 154). Nick saying this can be controversial in a couple of ways. When Nick says The whole damn bunch put together , he is mostly referring to Gatsby, Daisy, Tom and Jordan. Daisy is his cousin and that makes Tom family by marriage. Jordan is a woman Nick had a romantic relationship with. For Nick to say that Gatsby, out of all these people, is the best out of them shows a lot about Nick and his feelings toward Gatsby. For him to choose a man he had recently met over his family or someone he has had a relationship with is very interesting. Most people will choose their family or someone they are romantically involved with over a friend. Thus proving that Gatsby is more than a friend to Nick. This statement can also be controversial because Gatsby is not a saint. Daisy, Tom, and Jordan are all terrible people. Daisy lead on two men at the same time, one being her husband. Daisy also killed a woman and will not take the blame for it. Tom cheats on his wife with the wife of one of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
