The chamber music concert was held in Manhattan School of Music at 5:00 pm
Friday, April 15. The concert was conducted by many instruments with various types
of music. The atmosphere was fairly intense as the concert hall was approximately
the size of an average home living room with about 35 people in the audience. The
camber concert was divided into two major parts with an intermission of 15 minutes
in between the parts. As for this concert report I would like to focus on primarily the
music pieces I ve liked and the experience I have had.
The first part of the concert was diverse and colorful as the beginning two pieces
were featured by both violin and cello. These two ... Show more content on

The distance from the performer and the audience was so close, allowing you to
speculate every single emotion being produce throughout the concert. The room itself
had a very tall ceiling which made this unique echo that amplified the instruments
sound. The audience seemed very profession as total silence was the only response
they had until the end of the piece .The concert overall was a great experience and I
look forward to attending another chamber music concert soon.

The concert took place at Manhattan School of Music, which is located in the
performing arts recital hall on Monday, May 1, 2011. The stage setting was neat,
demonstrative, and very well organized as I first entered the entrance. I could feel
electrify with many extreme bright lights hanged on the top, which made me felt
more exciting. There were many types of people coming in this concert including
teenager and elderly. This concert was conducted by Dr. Nicholas Muni from MSM
Symphonic Band with one of the talented musicians from PCSl High School, Ms.
Jai Sun Song. The Manhattan School of Music Band performed a total of fives
pieces such as the Drayton Hall Esprit by Francis McBeth, Sea Songs by Ralph
Vaughan Williams, With Quiet Courage by Larry Daehn, Noisy Wheels of Joy by
Eric Whitacre, National Emblem by E.E.
Analysis Of Tessa Otto s Farewell Speech
The key to successful speech writing is, without a doubt, knowing one s audience.
Whether the speech is being given by a politician, a CEO, a professor, or even a
high school graduate, tailoring one s speech to the audience is necessary to both
engage and inform the audience on the subject at hand. As the class elected speaker
of her graduating class, it is clear that Tessa Otto knows her audiencewell enough to
successfully engage her fellow seniors in a farewell speech at her graduation
ceremony. As an elected official of her high school, Otto clearly maintains a
positive reputation among her fellow classmates, and thus, was a smart choice to
give the speech. Because of her knowledge of her fellow classmates, she is able to
make several references throughout her speech that act as inside jokes to directly
engage the students. For example, at the beginning of her speech, she addresses the
audience with the line, Friends, Czechoslovakians, merrymen, and the class of 2015,
good evening. Otto s greeting towards Czechoslovakians may seem confusing to a
viewer who is not familiar with the town but, as revealed by Otto in the comment
section of her speech, a large portion of the town... Show more content on

She begins the last portion of of her speech by humorously referencing the
advantages of college dorm bunk beds and the popular fear of the freshman fifteen,
but soon moves into seemingly serious advice. She assures her audience that simply
because they are going into the world, that does not mean they have to know
everything, and they are allowed to say, I don t know. While she quickly spins this
advice into another joke, she accomplishes one of the main purposes of a
commencement address by providing classmates with valid advice to aid in their life
Effects Of World War I Ended On The 1920s
When World War I ended on November 11, 1918, President Warren G. Harding
proposed a return to normalcy . This promised a return of the United States prewar
mentality, without the thought of war contaminating the minds of the American
people. With this in mind, the 1920s began but Americans in the 1930s witnessed
dramatic changes in their lives from the 1920s. The 1920s was a period of
prosperity and economic success, while the 1930s was a time of economic downfall.
The economy fluctuated between times of great prosperity and times of undoubtable
depression. Following these economic downturns was a period of rigorous attempts
to recover from severe economic loss. It did not take long for this economic hardship

They contributed to society with innovations in music and literature that promoted
the cultural growth of America in the 1920s. Also, this helped feed the Harlem
Renaissance , a cultural movement that spanned the 1920s in which black art,
literature, and music experienced renewal and growth, originating in New York
City s Harlem district. It was a period of great achievement by African American
writers, poets, artists, and performers. Similarly, the 1930s was occupied by the
ability of African Americans to get jobs on Works Progress Administration projects
because discrimination was banned by Executive Order 7046. During this time, a
multitude of African Americans received wages from the WPA twice as much as
their prior earnings. Another program that aided African Americans was Harold Icke
s Public Works Administration. This program provided to black tenants a more than
fair share of the public housing it built. Additionally, Ickes utilized the quota system
by Public Works Administration to hire African Americans in proportion to their
numbers in local workforce (Document 8b). All in all, the two decades emphasized
how there was an encouragement of minorities. Moreover, multiple new occupations
were opening for middle class women. Once they got out of schools and colleges,

Photography As The Technical Side Of Photography
Photography was only an idea before it became something tangible and memorable.
100 Ideas That Change Photography was written by Mary Warner Marien in 2011
and it is aim to help and remind people about both the artistic photography as well as
the technical side of photography. This book thoroughly explains how does
photographyevolve throughout time and it gathers information on the most influential
ideas that shaped photography from the early 19th century up to digital revolution
and beyond it.
Aesthetics
What is aesthetics? Aesthetics is a set of principles concerned with the nature and
appreciation of beauty, especially in art. Many stated that photo as an art made by a
camera, but if photo is an objective rendering of what the camera sees and then say
the photographer is merely a machine operator, how can you say that the camerawork
as an artwork if the operator knows nothing about aesthetics value? Meaning here, all
photographers need to know and learn what is aesthetics value in order to not just be
a machine operator but to be someone who knows all the principles, basic
understanding of what is camerawork, and good in interpreting as well as applying
aesthetics principle. Photography was invented during the time when art academies
and public intellectuals were taught a hands on theories and technique and at the
same time strengthening the field of fine arts. In the nineteenth century, numerous
critics scrutinised the daguerreotype image were in favor to not think it
Old Kingdom Vs New Kingdom
Ancient Egypt was located in Northeast Africa. The Egyptians were settled along
the Nile river. They were south of the Mediterranean Sea, West of the Red Sea, and
North of Nubia (Kush). Because the Nile River flooded annually, it would provide
rich soil for Egyptian farmers. Ancient Egyptians were around beginning at the Old
Kingdom at 2575 B.C. and ending at the New Kingdom at 1075 B.C.. Ancient Egypts
history is divided into three periods of time, The Old Kingdom, The Middle
Kingdom, and the New Kingdom. The Old Kingdom was established at about
2575 B.C and ended around 2130 B.C.. The Old Kingdom lasted about four
hundred and forty five years. Approximately one hundred and ninety two years later,
the Middle Kingdom was established. The Middle Kingdom was created around
1938 B.C. and ended at 1630 B.C.. Finally, after ninety one years, the final kingdom
was the New Kingdom. The New kingdom lasted from 1539 B.C. to 1075 B.C..

Why Did Diocletian Reform The Roman Empire
Diocletian understood that ruling over a major political entity like the Roman
Empire was too difficult for one ruler. This lead to the first major political reform
of the Roman Empire. Diocletian s solution to this problem was the tetrarchy.
Diocletian divide the empire into 4 territories that were all ruled by a separate
leader. The tetrarchy was to help bring the empire back to the ways of the Good
Emperors where the succession of power was peaceful. Diocletianwanted the
Emperors to select their successors from the ranks of the nobles. After Diocletian s
retirement in 305 CE, his hope for a smooth transition of power quickly turned into
complete chaos. Diocletian also tried to reform the economy of the empire to provide
it with stimulation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Visigoths were being forced into the empire the Huns and there leader Attila. The
Visigoth eventually settled in the areas of Spain and Gaul were they won the right to
settle. Roman had been importing slaves, servants, and soldiers into the empire. It
wasn t until the population of the Visigoths in the Empire increased that the peaceful
arrangement ended. The Romans treated the Visigoth poorly which led to the
Visigoths rebelling against Valens at the Battle of Adrianople and defeating him.
When the defeat of Valens, the Romans allowed the barbicans to form settlements in
the center of the empire. The Vandals, within three decades, had gained control over
northwest Africa and the majority of the Mediterranean. The Burgundians came into
the Empire right after the Vandals and settled in Gaul. The Franks settle in north and
central Gaul.
How did these tribes take over such a mighty empire so easily? The invaders were
successful because they came in rapid succession upon badly overextend Western
empire divided politically by ambitious military commanders and weakened by
decades of famine pestilence and over taxation (KOTF 184). The Romans tried to
assimilate the barbarians in to their armies. This barbarizing of the army just lead to a
further weakening of the army. By the middle of the 5th century, the power of the
Roman Empire had been passed from the Emperors to

Patient and Hybrid Record Essay
1. What is the potential impact of the copy/paste functionality on the integrity of the
data and information contained in an EHR? The copy/paste function opens the
possibility for fraud, medical error and risk for malpractice claims. Fraud could
occur when a copy/paste function is used and than an insurance company is billed
for the procedure/services 2 or 3 times. When in reality the procedure/service was
only completed once. Medical error can occur with the copy/paste function, when a
nurse reads a chart made by a doctor who copy/pasted instructions or initiates a
procedure that was already completed but the doctor didn t realize that they copy
/pasted it again. Than the nurse completes the procedure again, which can... Show

Don t let staff get lazy and complacent with using the copy/paste function.
1. What impact can a hybrid record have on patient care?
The hybrid record could have negative and positive effects on patient care. One
negative effect would be that it would take longer to access and put together if a
whole file is requested. Another negative would be just where exactly is all of these
paper records being kept. A positive effect of the hybrid record is that if the computer
system is compromised in some way there would be a paper record.
2. How might the hybrid record change health information management?
The hybrid record would change health information management because you would
have to have employees to care for all these records, as well as employees for the
computer files thus creating more staff and costing more. There would of course have
to be training on how to properly handle the hybrid record having thus an effect on
the health information management team. Who would have to implement training,
schedule personnel off to take the training find yet others to cover for that training.
Again costing more money and time.
3. How might a hospital overcome some of the issues created by the hybrid record?
To overcome some issues created by the hybrid record you would have to have good
education/training in implementation of new data, new software and soft ware
Asian American Population And Asian Americans
The Asian American population is a major facet of American life; beginning their
lives as immigrants they have worked their way to become integral members of
society. In 2010 there were 14.7 million Asian Americans living in the United States
and in 2011 that number increased to 18.2 million.1 Culturally, Asian American
people
have traditions and beliefs that contradict those of the Western world.2 Culture molds
people s values, attitudes, and beliefs; influences their perceptions of self and others;
and determines the way they experience their environment. 10 As a result there are
certain barriers that exist when communicating with Asian Americans due to their
cultural background. Additionally, Asians living in America suffer from the Model
Minority Myth, which typecasts these people as being financially and educationally
well off in comparison to other ethnic groups.2 Due to this Asian Americans aren t
considered more at risk for many health risks compared to other ethnicities; cultural
and physical barriers act as a hindrance to Asian Americans receiving healthcare
services, primarily mental health related services.
According to Spencer et al. Asian Americans often stigmatize mental health. As a
result many individuals forgo taking advantage of mental health services because it
promotes cultural feelings of shame or embarrassment.2 The article analyzed the
connection between discrimination and the usage of mental health services on a
national sample of Asian Americans.

In recent years, airlines build a closer relationship, especially European airlines and
Chinese airlines. Europe is the headstream of airplane, but compared to North
America, European aviation is a little bit weak on the ridership. In late 1990s and
early 2000s, Europe had more interactions with American aviation. In recent years,
Europe set China as a new partner. European aviation is trying to expand its
international market through increasing new cooperation.
In recent years, the relationship between Chinese and European Aviation is getting
closer. The strongest evidence is that Chinese government and European Union have

common and serious persecution in the construction industry in Malaysia. There
several causes lead to this issue such as financial difficulties, mismanagement during
the construction process, unexpected location or nature difficulty, and lack of
cooperation from local authorities. Beside these issues, I found that industrial ruins

Response To The Parable Of The Tenants
Parables are stories to illustrate moral and spiritual lessons1. A parable has a
function to bring forth a response one who hears the parable2. How I view, a
parable is that it is meant to clarify something that was already said by Jesus that was
no understood the first time. The parable of the Tenants was told by Jesusto those who
were in the midst of persecuting Him. These were the religious leaders and teachers
of the Law who questioned His authority. Tell us by what authority you are doing
these things, they said. Who gave you this authority? (Luke 20:2, NIV). In lieu of
answering their questions by saying God had given Him the authority, Jesus asked
them a question. Tell me: John s baptism was it from heaven, or of human origin?
(Luke 20:3, NIV).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this parable, we are going to identify various people as our points of reference.
In the beginning of the story, a man plants a vineyard and rents it out to some
farmers. The vineyard owner is God. God created the earth and all that is in it and
gave it to man to take care of. The vineyard owner rented the vineyard to the
farmers who become tenants of the vineyard and they represent the chief priest
and teachers of the Law. Religious leaders cultivate God s teaching to the people as
does a farmer cultivate the land to bear fruit. The vineyard owner (God) had sent
His servants to get fruit from the tenants out of the vineyard. Three servants had
come and three servants were beaten or killed. The servants are the representation of
the prophets. The fruit would be kindness, compassion, gratitude yet they did not
receive that. In 1 Kings 18, Jezebel was killing off all the prophets. In 2 Chronicles
24, Zechariah was stoned to death in the house of the Lord. In Jeremiah 20, priest
Pashhur heard Jeremiah prophesying and had him

First, that the person committed the criminal act in question and secondly, that they
did so with the required criminal mindset. The amount the court imposed seems a bit
offensive and in the authors opinion seems to be more of a general deterrence method
for others. The author is interested in this case because the author has downloaded
songs as well and never thought of those consequences.
Lawyers for the recording industry argued that illegal downloading hurt the recording
industry and that Joel Tenenbaum was a hardcore copy right infringer. Joel
Tenenbaum argued in his defense also argued that the U.S. Copyright Act is
unconstitutional and that Congress did not intend the law to impose liability or
damages when the copyright infringements amount to consumer copying. We re
pleased with this decision, RIAA spokeswoman Cara Duckworth said after the
Supreme Court s announcement Monday (2012). This is not the first such case of
this nature either.
In summary Joel Tenenbaumn although criminally liable was fined excessively. The
8th amendment protects an individual in this situation. In this case the author
believes although the fines imposed excessive it can be seen as punishment that can
be a general deterrence to a current issue out of control. Most younger people believe
that it hurts no one to download music and continue to do it frequently. Although
some people see it ethically wrong and see it the same as stealing. Maybe the case of

Female Infanticide and Foeticide Essay
Female Infanticide and Foeticide
It is regrettable that female infanticide and foeticide are rapidly decreasing the
female population throughout India. The main factors that is responsible for the
increase in the incidence of female infanticide and foeticide is the low status of
women, son preference, and the practice of dowry across all casts groups.
The low status of women and girls is due to cultural beliefs and the material cost
they represent to their families. Vanaja Dhruvarajan says that there is a belief
regarding the nature of men and women: Men are ritually pure, physically strong, and
emotionally mature; women, on the other hand, are ritually pollutable, physically
weak, and lack strong willpower (30). Because of these ... Show more content on

Overall, girls get poorer education than boys, and become less aware of the world
around them. Therefore, they become dependent on men, whether it is the father, the
husband or the son.
The preference for male children is due to three major reasons. One is the economic
value of having sons. Sons are more likely than daughters to provide family labour on
the farm or in a family business, earn wages, and support their parents during old
age. Upon marriage, a son brings a daughter in law into his family, and she provides
additional help around the house as well as she brings riches in the form of dowry
payments. Another important advantage of having sons is their social cultural utility.
In India patriarchal family system, having one son is essential for the continuation of
the family line, and many sons provide high status to the family. Vanaja Dhruvarajan
says, When a women becomes a mother, especially the mother of a son, her status
goes up in her new home for having helped perpetuate the family (87) Finally, the
utility of having sons comes from the important religious functions that only sons can
provide. In Hindu tradition, sons are needed to do the funeral of their deceased
parents and to help in the salvation of their souls.
Daughters are considered to be an economic problem to her parents mainly because
of the heavy dowry payment demanded by the groom s family, as well as the high
cost of the wedding,
Socrates and Virtue
At the beginning of Meno Socrates and Meno are discussing what they think the true
definition of virtue is. They debate over this matter for quite some time and Meno
continues to throw definitions, of what he thinks virtue is, at Socrates. It seems like
every time Meno would come up with what he thought virtuewas Socrateswould
shoot it down. Socrates would not come out and say this is not right, he would
merely ask him a series of questions in order for Meno to realize it on his own. One

you are going to do some beneficial then it involves wisdom to a certain extent. So if
in order to do something beneficial you need wisdom and they defined virtue as
being something beneficial, therefore making the valid point that virtue is wisdom,
for the most part ( Sections 87e В– 89b).
Virtue is what you make of it. Yes, to some extent, I agree with Socrates with virtue
as wisdom, but that is about as far as you can go with it. Really it is what you are
willing to make of it in your own life. There are good types of virtues and then
there are harmful types of virtue. Now you cannot really say that there are
beneficial types of virtue and bad types of virtue. The reason behind this is
because, to some people, virtue can be beneficial in a bad way instead of the
beneficial that most people first think of. It varies from person to person. There is
really no way of putting one basic definition on virtue. Virtue encompasses so many
different things, it would be nearly impossible for us to slap a definition on it
without finding a glitch or something wrong with the definition. There will always be
someone there to find a problem with it, because is that not the way our society
works? Somebody comes up with one thing, then after a while someone comes up
something wrong with that idea and proposes a new,

Good Readers Good Writers
Nabokov: Providing a Flood and Lifeboat
In Nabokov s 1948 Good Readers and Good Writers, the reader has the opportunity
to view the possibilities of a beautiful collision of a major reader and a major writer.
This piece discusses reading and writing: skills that have become standardized and
slightly devalued as education has advanced. Literacy has become so expected that
little thought is put into what defines a good reader or writer; Nabokov tackles this
idea head on. Nabokov s intention of this piece is to passionately display a
relationship that is formed between a good reader and a good writer, and the
essential need for an open mind. He stresses the vitality of understanding instead of
immediately identifying when reading; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead Nabokov states: study that new world as closely as possible, approaching it as
something brand new, having no obvious connection with the worlds we already
know (1). When approached in such a manner a major reader can see the new world
in its entirety and once it has been explored and understood then there is room to
compare its connections to other worlds and knowledge.
Nabokov uses bold and unafraid language to emphasize his thoughts and chooses
to speak only to those who choose to listen. The lesson he teaches requires the
audience to look past personal comparison and preference. The audience must gain
understand and appreciate first; then let Nabokov s ideas apply to the world of
reading and writing they themselves know it. Nabokov displays this message by
refusing to dull any of his thoughts: for example phrases like, Can anybody be so
naive as to think he or she can learn anything about the past from those... historical
novels? (1). He still has a definite message but in a lot of sentences and phrases they
have a condescending punch to them. Nabokov uses superlatives such as: the best
temperament for a reader to have... (3). As well as opinionated statements such as:
nothing is more boring or more unfair... (1). Statements like these can prevent his
audience to open their minds because his language is emotionally provoking.
Nabokov purposely tests his audience by using powerful provoking language
A Comparison of the Characteristics of the Absolutist Rule...
A Comparison of the Characteristics of the Absolutist Rule of Charles I of England
and Louis XIV of France While both the French and English empires were growing
overseas, the modern system of great powers was evolving in Europe itself. France
became Europe s superpower in the 1600 s. Louis XIV, the Sun King, served as a
model of absolute royal power. England in the 1600 s, by contrast, provided an
early example of more democratic rule as Parliament limited the power of monarchs.
From the 1560 s to the 1590 s, religious wars between Huguenots (French
Protestants) and the Catholic majority tore France apart. Leaders on each side used

Profession Of Arms Essay
What does it mean to be a Profession of Arms?
Professionalism can be deemed as a single individual or body of individuals seeking
to perfect their expertise or field of choice. Although professions are oftentimes
motivated by higher salaries, promotions, and benefits, throughout the Army it
appears to be more of a vow or calling. As a Human Resources Sergeant in the
Profession of Arms, we are not only responsible for yielding support that affects
soldiers and their overall well being but also in aiding them with the training and
knowledge that keeps them combat ready and effective. This amplifies the role of any

Profession of Arms.
A profession can simply be noted as an occupation, but in many cases, being a
Human Resources Sergeant in the Army supersedes the duties of just any
occupation. The Army s role as an American Profession of Arms provides an entire
nation with security, fields of expertise, and most importantly its effectiveness. This
can be justified through the hard work and dedication it takes to sacrifice one s life

Designing An Educational Environment Online
The process for designing an educational environment online is a unique
experiment and must be done in a methodical manner. The equipment, multimedia,
and software and hardware all has to be incorporated into a virtual space that can

Western imperialism in East Asia caused many tribulations for China, Japan, and
Korea but also helped them to become contemporary nations. The East Asian
countries were tremendously affected by unequal treaties, extraterritoriality, and
above all, technology. Great Britain encroached upon China their greed for open trade

led to the emergence of a modernized civilization. Japan was co subjugated by Russia

The East India Company made other British agents unhappy, as they too wanted
trading monopolies with China in areas such as industrialized textiles. By 1834,
Great Britain directed Lord Napier to bypass the commerce authority in China, the
Cohong, and negotiate matters of trade with China s governor general who declined
any business agreements for the reason that the Chinese saw no reason to sully their
dignity by dealing with barbarians . (pp. 298) Hence, in 1839, when Imperial
Commissioner Lin Zexu arrived in the Chinese trading port of Guangzhou to
suppress the opium transfer, war broke out between Great Britain and China.
Commissioner Zexu was successful in eradicating the opium from the port, yet the
Opium War was a defeat for the Chinese and their morality. Queen Victoria of Great

commodities and an agreement from China for the repayment to British peddlers for
their destroyed property. Chinese officials were also forced to not only expand

Robinson s admission in 1947 was all the more significant in that he was the first to

Narrative Essay On Speeding
I have been a reckless driver over my brief time driving. I had times when I would
speed when I was in a hurry. I would also go fast for the sake of going fast because
it was determined to be cool. I have had my fair share of reckless burnouts, and that
impatient mindset has caused many mishaps in my driving. I even got into a minor
wreck in a parking lot, but none of those incidents taught me anything about slowing
down and just get from A to B. One mishap has changed my thought process for

the composition of three sets of advantages ownership advantages, internalization
advantages and location advantages. If a firm possesses the more OLI advantages,
the greater the propensity of adopting an entry mode with a high control level such as
wholly owned ventures, the outcomes shown in the figure below. Stopford, John M.;

A Brief Note On The Civilian Aerospace Industry Essay
Introduction: The civilian aerospace industry comprises firms that produce aircraft
and firms that parts of these aircraft. The most commonly produced civilian transport
airliners range from smaller turboprop aircraft to larger wide body jets. Other types
aircraft are produced in much smaller quantities and include two seat leisure aircraft,
corporate jets, and civilian helicopters.
Consumers of the American aircraft include the US government, airline companies,
cargo transportation companies, and various private businesses. Aircraft
manufacturers contract with these firms to produce aircraft. These manufacturers
often subcontract with smaller companies for specific components such as engines
and electronics.
The limited amount of aircraft contracts and large economies of scale in aircraft
production has led the civilian aerospace industry to be dominated by a few large
firms. The United States is home to most of the major producers in the civil
aerospace industry, notably the Boeing Company, United Technologies, and General
Electric. Due to the complexity of certain aircraft parts, subcontractor firms specialize
to only produce those components. For example, companies such as General Electric
and the United Technologies Corporation specialize in the production of aircraft
engines. These parts are then sold to companies like Boeing and incorporated into the
airframe to produce a complete aircraft. Notable foreign competitors include the

AME 503 Paper Study 2
INTRODUCTION
As specified in the paper Complexity in Design of Technical Systems, an exact
definition to the meaning of the word complexity is a matter of debate and
discussion. It is not to be mistaken for anything but the complexity involved while
designing or modifying a technical system or rather an engineering system. The
paper is vigorous in mentioning the existence of two main complexities that needs
special attention dawned upon them while designing the system viz. inborn
complication and acquired complication. Inborn complications are dictated by the
customer needs that have been considered for the design, they may not be varied or
dealt with as stated by Nam Pyo Suh however the sphere of influence of the designer
is within the reaches of the acquired complexity. Acquired complexity may be kept to
a minimal low if the designer of the system carefully understands the inter relations,
functional dependency and the physical probabilities involved, but at the same time
the inborn complication should also be kept at its lowest possible level based on
Customer Requirements (CR).
It is most likely that the readers get confused between Suh s Axiomatic Design
Theory and Complexity Theory , although they seem to be intertwined into each other
s concepts it is obvious through deeper study that the former focuses on functional
dependency and the later primarily on physical probability

Shiga Toxin Essay
2.7 Biomedical applications of Shiga toxin
Recombinant toxins possess domains that bind to a specific receptor on the target
cell, translocate the enzymatic moiety to the cytosolic site of action and catalytically
induce a lethal alteration. They can be used as constituents of immunotoxins or other
targeted (cell specific) chimeric molecules. Furthermore, they can be used as vehicles
to bring proteins and peptides into cells with the possibility of creating immune
responses to virus or cancer cell. In addition to its involvement in clinical disease,
Shiga toxin has become powerful tool for the investigation of cellular processes,

strived to promote scientific advancement, debunked the Aristotelian theory after his

University of Pisa (Helden). This was only the first instant where Galileo rejected
Aristotelian notions; it was not until his improvement of the telescope, did he begin
to challenge the Church. Prior to the Galileo Affair, Cardinal Robert Bellarmine had

After hearing the Grand Duchess Christina object to the heliocentric system, Galileo
wrote and later published his Letter to Castelli. Galileo begins by addressing the
Grand Duchess first concern: he agrees that the Scripture cannot err, but the
interpreters of the Scripture can make mistakes. Galileo states that the Holy
Scriptures were created to be understood by the common person, but it is up to wise
expositors to unveil the true meaning of the words (196). Galileo explains that the
Scripture says many different meanings from the truth when evaluating the meanings
of words. In regards to the nature, Galileo states that it cannot violate established
laws, it cannot be doubted based off the Scripture, and that not everything in the
Scripture can be associated with effect in nature (197). Galileo refers to his previous
statement in which the Scripture accommodates to even the most uneducated people.
He attempts to point out that mathematics is needed to better interpret the Bible.
Galileo, as well as many others, agree that nobody should alter or change the meaning
of the passages in the Scripture. However, if something in the Bible was proven
wrong by the actual truth, Galileo believed it should be fixed; if untouched it would

Determining the Effect of Potential Household Repellents...
Introduction:
The purpose of this project is to determine the effect of household substances, which
contain naturally occurring ant repelling chemicals, on ant behavior. While there are
many plants that chemically repel ants, this project will test if there are any
household products, which contain some of the same naturally occurring repellents,
which ants will avoid. This paper will first identify what plants repel ants.
The herbs and plants that best repel ants are tansy, catnip, pennyroyal, peppermint,
sage, coffee, and spearmint. All of these but catnip have some of medicinal use.
Catnip and pennyroyal are both in the mint family. It is already known what makes
catnip a repellent nepetalactone, a chemical that simulates pheromones. It is
repulsive to insects, but attractive to cats. Tansy is also a repellent, and was used to
repel insects as early as the 19th century. However, this is for a different reason tansy
contains a volatile oil that becomes toxic when broken down. However, the
components of this oil, such as 1,8 cineole, thujone, camphor, and myrtenol all have
various chemical and pheromonal properties. The herb sage is more useful than
tansy, but still contains many of the same chemicals cineole, camphor, alpha thujone,
and beta thujone. It is highly possible that these chemicals have some sort of
pheromonal effect on ants. On the other hand, there is pennyroyal repellent to ants
because it contains toxic oil, mostly based on a chemical called

table salt. In this experiment, the Independent Variable will be the amount of salt I
have added to the constant( our water), and the Dependent Variable will be the
boiling temperature that it reaches.
Introduction:
According to the Department of Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana
Champaign, adding salt to water increases the overall boiling point, thus reducing
cooking time. It s important to know that it does not actually speed up the boiling
point, but increases the maximum temperature. To prove this concept, we will be
investigating How [does] the increase in salt (IDV) affect the boiling temperature of
water (DV)? .
Research Question:
How does the increase in salt (IDV) affect the boiling temperature of water (DV)?
Design:
Variables:
Independent:
Salt (Will be added in at different supplements)
Dependent:
Boiling Temperature ( Will hypothetically will change)
Controlled:
The amount of pure (distilled) water used in every experiment
Predictive Accuracy And Modelling For Explanatory Power
Essay
Through using R, we have created a set of models that help to predict the
likelihood of a customer churning. By working together in the analysis stage we
were able to bounce ideas off one another and grasp a further understanding of the
data and customer churn. We created two different models: modelling for
predictive accuracy and modelling for explanatory power. What is our team
structure? In the group we have four team members that consists of three males
and one female; Ryan Campion, Samuel O Connell, Hunter Stewart, and myself,
Hannah Lowe. We ve all worked really well together. Everyone has contributed and
we have managed to meet the allocated times set to doing this assignment. There
has been no group issues, or any person putting in any less effort than the other. In
the analysis stage we tackled it as a group: we didn t work as individuals. We
worked on one computer and used the lab work we had done prior to aid us with
our models. The reason for this is that we were confused slightly as how to read the
models from the start; by discussing it with one another we were able to grasp a
better concept of what we were looking for. In the reporting stage we all worked
independently, within our own time frame. There was a discussion on the findings
from the data, which is in our reports, but in our own words. The presentation was
worked on collectively. I organised the parts that were to be discussed, these areas
were the distributed to other members. We all wrote
Being A Black Male And Society It s Kind Of Hard For Me
Devonta Hatten

Writing Assignment 2
World Literature
Being a black male in society it s kind of hard for me not to recognize certain issues
pertaining to race. Usually when it s an issue pertaining race 9 times out of ten it s a
black individual, rare cases it s another race, particularly Mexican Americans. I m not
just making accusations as African Americanwe have to be aware of these bias or we
will get taken advantage of. White non Latino Police in America are taking
advantage of their positions to undermined black individuals who may or may not
know there rights. That s a major reason why I can t afford to recognize the issues.
A potential bias that I have may be that police are not all bad. A police job is to protect

As Humans, we carry unconscious and hidden biases from a lifetime of exposure
to cultural attitudes about race, ethnicity, religion, social class, sexuality, and
nationally. Being a Minority helps me become more equipped to intuitively
understand or recognize issues associated with race. This is important because I
know certain things to say and not to say. I am able to look at things from the
inside out because race issues mostly deal with White non Latino and blacks.
Sometimes it s hard for me to look at it from a White non Latino perspective
because they are blind to a situation that I am aware of. For example, If A White
guy says something racist to an minority and acts as if he doesn t know; It s hard to
understand how he did not know what he said was racist. Basically I m bias to
someone else being bias.
To avoid blind spots I must take a step in someone else shoes to see their view
point. This is a very difficult task to do for most but it s the first step in minimizing
effects of blind spots. If you can find out the reason why someone is doing
something then maybe you can make the situation better. The next step in minimizing
blind spots is to treat everyone as if we all had the same culture, because we are all
Americans. Most people just forget that everyone is equal just not treated equal.
To avoid bias it is important to remember that we are all humans with feelings, it is
important that we share the American dream and to be whatever we want. To
Involuntary Manslaughter
Principles of Manslaughter
Manslaughter seems to be the most flexible and elusive type of homicide as far as the
court system goes. The law has gradually made successful differentiations and
weeding out about how it recognizes murder on the one hand, based mainly, though
not exclusively, on an intention to kill. Manslaughter on the other hand, based
mainly, though not exclusively, on the absence of intention to kill. This may be
because manslaughter is generally divided by lawyers into two categories, voluntary
and involuntary manslaughter. The former concerns instances when the intention to
kill is found, but the defendant successfully raises partial defenses such as
provocation, diminished ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The former requires a duty of care and a level of negligence so foul as to fall far
below the level of standards expected. Then later on the other hand takes us to the
boundaries between murder and manslaughter. For someone to be convicted of
murder, there needs to be an intention to kill. If therefore someone intends to claim
insurance on the house or just to frighten someone, there is no intention to kill, as
such they may be convicted of subjective reckless manslaughter. This is subjective as
the defendant must be virtually certain that his action will cause death or grievous
bodily harm, rather than a reasonable man, to be convicted of murder. Otherwise, if
the defendant could not care less or appreciates the risk yet is reasonable in
undertaking it, D may be found guilty of subjective reckless manslaughter. The test
for this variety of manslaughter seems to be too lenient as it is questionable whether
the defendant has not in principle murdered someone when death is probable, but
not practically certain. The law commission warns us against an objective or more
rigid test as it may lead to the conviction of someone who does not have a reasonable
level of intelligence, suggesting therefore that they are being punished for having a
lower level of intelligence or maturity. If a child does not have enough experience of
the world to understand that gasoline is highly inflammable, therefore is not
practically certain that death
How Adaptations Are Created By Selfish Genes
Discussion: In this lab, I was mostly successful in confirming my hypotheses. In
the first experiment, I hypothesized that if there are more children per generation,
then it will increase the rate of evolution. I believed this to be true because there
would be more opportunity for mutations. I chose this originally because of a
statistical approach. However, after thinking about this week s readings, it is very
comparative to an argument that Dawkins made. His argument was that the more
humans reproduce, the more we adapt and the more likely we are to survive
(Dawkins, 2006). Adaptations are created by selfish genes wanting to survive.
Therefore, the organisms that reproduce more are more likely to survive due to all
of the adaptations that can create in a shorter amount of time. This can be shown in
the table I have listed under experiment 1. As the number of children per generation
increases, the number of generations it takes to create the target phrase, or genetic
code for that adaptation, decreases. This can be shown in reverse too. This then
proves my first hypothesis. My second hypothesis was also proven to be true
because if you compare the data from the table under Experiment 1 to the data in the
table under Experiment 2, then one can easily see that when the adaptation is
simplified, then it will increase the rate of revolution, therefore, decreasing the
number of generations it takes to create the target phrase/genetic code for adaptation.
This can also be
Building A Safer Health Care System
According to Err is Human: Building a Safer Health Care System, thousands of
Americans die annually due to medical errors and hundreds of thousands are victims
of a non fatal medical errors or injuries (Kongstvedt, 2013). With that being said,
health care is composed of three main components: quality, access, and cost (Tabish,
2009). High quality care could prevent many of these fatalities or never events that
occur within the health care organization. Historically speaking, many health care
changes and improvements in quality of care have occurred due to quality
management and quality assurance. To fully understand how quality is achieved and
maintained, it is important to dissect these two programs or processes. This paper
will analyze the key components of a quality management program as well as discuss
characteristics that distinguish a quality management program from traditional
quality assurance. Quality Before understanding a quality management program and
traditional quality assurance, it is important to understand the definition of quality.
Quality is composed of two elements, content and delivery (Brent, nd). Content
quality is related to the medical outcome that has been achieved. While delivery
quality is based upon the patients interaction with the health care system, also known
as the patient s impression of the organization such as its environment, the providers
and caretakers, and treatment. Together, content and delivery create quality. (Brent,
nd) Quality

  • 3. Analysis Of Tessa Otto s Farewell Speech The key to successful speech writing is, without a doubt, knowing one s audience. Whether the speech is being given by a politician, a CEO, a professor, or even a high school graduate, tailoring one s speech to the audience is necessary to both engage and inform the audience on the subject at hand. As the class elected speaker of her graduating class, it is clear that Tessa Otto knows her audiencewell enough to successfully engage her fellow seniors in a farewell speech at her graduation ceremony. As an elected official of her high school, Otto clearly maintains a positive reputation among her fellow classmates, and thus, was a smart choice to give the speech. Because of her knowledge of her fellow classmates, she is able to make several references throughout her speech that act as inside jokes to directly engage the students. For example, at the beginning of her speech, she addresses the audience with the line, Friends, Czechoslovakians, merrymen, and the class of 2015, good evening. In 2010 there were 14.7 million Asian Americans living in the United States and in 2011 that number increased to 18.2 million.1 Culturally, Asian American people have traditions and beliefs that contradict those of the Western world.2 Culture molds people s values, attitudes, and beliefs; influences their perceptions of self and others; and determines the way they experience their environment. 10 As a result there are certain barriers that exist when communicating with Asian Americans due to their cultural background. Additionally, Asians living in America suffer from the Model Minority Myth, which typecasts these people as being financially and educationally well off in comparison to other ethnic groups.2 Due to this Asian Americans aren t considered more at risk for many health risks compared to other ethnicities; cultural and physical barriers act as a hindrance to Asian Americans receiving healthcare services, primarily mental health related services. The low status of women and girls is due to cultural beliefs and the material cost they represent to their families. Therefore, they become dependent on men, whether it is the father, the husband or the son. The preference for male children is due to three major reasons. One is the economic value of having sons. Sons are more likely than daughters to provide family labour on the farm or in a family business, earn wages, and support their parents during old age. Upon marriage, a son brings a daughter in law into his family, and she provides additional help around the house as well as she brings riches in the form of dowry payments. Daughters are considered to be an economic problem to her parents mainly because of the heavy dowry payment demanded by the groom s family, as well as the high cost of the wedding,

Virtue is what you make of it. Yes, to some extent, I agree with Socrates with virtue as wisdom, but that is about as far as you can go with it. Really it is what you are willing to make of it in your own life. There are good types of virtues and then there are harmful types of virtue. Nabokov uses bold and unafraid language to emphasize his thoughts and chooses to speak only to those who choose to listen. The lesson he teaches requires the audience to look past personal comparison and preference. The audience must gain understand and appreciate first; then let Nabokov s ideas apply to the world of reading and writing they themselves know it. Nabokov displays this message by refusing to dull any of his thoughts: for example phrases like, Can anybody be so naive as to think he or she can learn anything about the past from those... historical novels? (1). He still has a definite message but in a lot of sentences and phrases they have a condescending punch to them. Nabokov uses superlatives such as: the best temperament for a reader to have... (3). As well as opinionated statements such as: nothing is more boring or more unfair... (1). Statements like these can prevent his audience to open their minds because his language is emotionally provoking. Nabokov purposely tests his audience by using powerful provoking language

Consequently, as the opium addicts rose, so did the supply and demand of exports from Great Britain to China. The ensuing drug trafficking accordingly corrupted many Chinese officials. The opium cartel held by The East India Company made other British agents unhappy, as they too wanted trading monopolies with China in areas such as industrialized textiles. By 1834, Great Britain directed Lord Napier to bypass the commerce authority in China, the Cohong, and negotiate matters of trade with China s governor general who declined any business agreements for the reason that the Chinese saw no reason to sully their dignity by dealing with barbarians . The most commonly produced civilian transport airliners range from smaller turboprop aircraft to larger wide body jets. Other types aircraft are produced in much smaller quantities and include two seat leisure aircraft, corporate jets, and civilian helicopters. Consumers of the American aircraft include the US government, airline companies, cargo transportation companies, and various private businesses. Aircraft manufacturers contract with these firms to produce aircraft. These manufacturers often subcontract with smaller companies for specific components such as engines and electronics. The limited amount of aircraft contracts and large economies of scale in aircraft production has led the civilian aerospace industry to be dominated by a few large firms. The United States is home to most of the major producers in the civil aerospace industry, notably the Boeing Company, United Technologies, and General Electric. Due to the complexity of certain aircraft parts, subcontractor firms specialize to only produce those components. For example, companies such as General Electric and the United Technologies Corporation specialize in the production of aircraft engines. These parts are then sold to companies like Boeing and incorporated into the airframe to produce a complete aircraft. Notable foreign competitors include the European Aeronautic Defence and

Questions On Design Of Technical Systems Essay Isaac Mathew Pavoodath USC ID 8834875144 AME 503 Paper Study 2 INTRODUCTION As specified in the paper Complexity in Design of Technical Systems, an exact definition to the meaning of the word complexity is a matter of debate and discussion. It is not to be mistaken for anything but the complexity involved while designing or modifying a technical system or rather an engineering system. The paper is vigorous in mentioning the existence of two main complexities that needs special attention dawned upon them while designing the system viz. inborn complication and acquired complication. Inborn complications are dictated by the customer needs that have been considered for the design, they may not be varied or dealt with as stated by Nam Pyo Suh however the sphere of influence of the designer is within the reaches of the acquired complexity. Acquired complexity may be kept to a minimal low if the designer of the system carefully understands the inter relations, functional dependency and the physical probabilities involved, but at the same time the inborn complication should also be kept at its lowest possible level based on Customer Requirements (CR). It is most likely that the readers get confused between Suh s Axiomatic Design Theory and Complexity Theory , although they seem to be intertwined into each other s concepts it is obvious through deeper study that the former focuses on functional dependency and the later primarily on physical probability UNDERSTANDING

Introduction: The purpose of this project is to determine the effect of household substances, which contain naturally occurring ant repelling chemicals, on ant behavior. While there are many plants that chemically repel ants, this project will test if there are any household products, which contain some of the same naturally occurring repellents, which ants will avoid. This paper will first identify what plants repel ants. The herbs and plants that best repel ants are tansy, catnip, pennyroyal, peppermint, sage, coffee, and spearmint. All of these but catnip have some of medicinal use. Catnip and pennyroyal are both in the mint family. It is already known what makes catnip a repellent nepetalactone, a chemical that simulates pheromones. It is repulsive to insects, but attractive to cats. Tansy is also a repellent, and was used to repel insects as early as the 19th century. However, this is for a different reason tansy contains a volatile oil that becomes toxic when broken down. However, the components of this oil, such as 1,8 cineole, thujone, camphor, and myrtenol all have various chemical and pheromonal properties. The herb sage is more useful than tansy, but still contains many of the same chemicals cineole, camphor, alpha thujone, and beta thujone. It is highly possible that these chemicals have some sort of pheromonal effect on ants. On the other hand, there is pennyroyal repellent to ants because it contains toxic oil, mostly based on a chemical called

Then later on the other hand takes us to the boundaries between murder and manslaughter. For someone to be convicted of murder, there needs to be an intention to kill. If therefore someone intends to claim insurance on the house or just to frighten someone, there is no intention to kill, as such they may be convicted of subjective reckless manslaughter. This is subjective as the defendant must be virtually certain that his action will cause death or grievous bodily harm, rather than a reasonable man, to be convicted of murder. Otherwise, if the defendant could not care less or appreciates the risk yet is reasonable in undertaking it, D may be found guilty of subjective reckless manslaughter. The test for this variety of manslaughter seems to be too lenient as it is questionable whether the defendant has not in principle murdered someone when death is probable, but not practically certain. The law commission warns us against an objective or more rigid test as it may lead to the conviction of someone who does not have a reasonable level of intelligence, suggesting therefore that they are being punished for having a lower level of intelligence or maturity. If a child does not have enough experience of the world to understand that gasoline is highly inflammable, therefore is not practically certain that death
  • 43. How Adaptations Are Created By Selfish Genes Discussion: In this lab, I was mostly successful in confirming my hypotheses. In the first experiment, I hypothesized that if there are more children per generation, then it will increase the rate of evolution. I believed this to be true because there would be more opportunity for mutations. I chose this originally because of a statistical approach. However, after thinking about this week s readings, it is very comparative to an argument that Dawkins made. His argument was that the more humans reproduce, the more we adapt and the more likely we are to survive (Dawkins, 2006). Adaptations are created by selfish genes wanting to survive. Therefore, the organisms that reproduce more are more likely to survive due to all of the adaptations that can create in a shorter amount of time. This can be shown in the table I have listed under experiment 1. As the number of children per generation increases, the number of generations it takes to create the target phrase, or genetic code for that adaptation, decreases. This can be shown in reverse too. This then proves my first hypothesis. My second hypothesis was also proven to be true because if you compare the data from the table under Experiment 1 to the data in the table under Experiment 2, then one can easily see that when the adaptation is simplified, then it will increase the rate of revolution, therefore, decreasing the number of generations it takes to create the target phrase/genetic code for adaptation. This can also be

Building A Safer Health Care System According to Err is Human: Building a Safer Health Care System, thousands of Americans die annually due to medical errors and hundreds of thousands are victims of a non fatal medical errors or injuries (Kongstvedt, 2013). With that being said, health care is composed of three main components: quality, access, and cost (Tabish, 2009). High quality care could prevent many of these fatalities or never events that occur within the health care organization. Historically speaking, many health care changes and improvements in quality of care have occurred due to quality management and quality assurance. To fully understand how quality is achieved and maintained, it is important to dissect these two programs or processes. This paper will analyze the key components of a quality management program as well as discuss characteristics that distinguish a quality management program from traditional quality assurance. Quality Before understanding a quality management program and traditional quality assurance, it is important to understand the definition of quality. Quality is composed of two elements, content and delivery (Brent, nd). Content quality is related to the medical outcome that has been achieved. While delivery quality is based upon the patients interaction with the health care system, also known as the patient s impression of the organization such as its environment, the providers and caretakers, and treatment. Together, content and delivery create quality. (Brent, nd) Quality
