17. Academic History
At GCSE I studied English which helped develop writing skills which will be helpful for
screenwriting and essay writing. At college I did film studies which helped to develop
my film knowledge, helped me gain an interest in the industry and helped me get a
wider understanding of the industry. As a part of this course I wrote a screenplay
Which taught me about the script writing process and helped expand my storytelling
skills. I also took a media studies course in college which helped me learn about the
media industry on a larger scale. I also filmed small adverts as a part of the
coursework which gave me practice with technical skills such as filming and editing but
also helped my creative skills and time-management skills.
18. Current Study
I am currently studying a creative media course that focuses on different areas of the
media and helps you develop the necessary practical skills. This course taught me
about the challenging aspects of filmmaking and helped me develop better problem
solving skills. So far in my studies I have created a music video using a Canon DSLR,
developing my practical skills in film and editing. I have also created an audio told
story that uses foley sound effects and voice over to tell a story. During this I
learned how to edit audio using Adobe Audition and managed to learn how to
add effects to audio and how to improve sound quality. I have also worked in
photoshop to create a magazine cover and double page spread. This helped me
strengthen skills in photoshop and with photography. I also used photoshop to
create a 2D video game animation which helped to strengthened my creative
thinking skills. I found animation to be quite challenging but I managed to create a
smooth looking animation with nice art work. This shows my commitment to my
work and how I don’t let a challenge stand in the way of the creative process. It
also shows that I can deal with stressful tasks and don’t give up when things are
difficult. At the end of this year I focused on creating my final major project. For
this I wrote and produced a short sci-fi film. During this task I strengthened my
premiere pro skills whilst also learning the importance of good time management
and organisational skills that will help me with future study.
19. The Future
I would like to work in the Television and film industry in the future. I would like to
go into directing and screenwriting and I think that this university course will help
me achieve this. It will do this by giving my a wide range of practical skills and
experience in an educated environment. It will help me improve my writing skills
before entering a professional setting and will help me improve my practical skills
by providing with the advice and equipment needed.
20. Outside College
I did 3 years of acting classes with YAFTA which helped me learn a lot about
filming for screen. I worked with professionals from the industry and learned
about acting. I also did school based acting products which means that I've
worked on sets before and knowledge about the process. It also helped me
gain confidence skills, better communication skills and teamwork skills. This
also helped me gain better creative skills and storytelling skills as we would
write our own acting pieces each lesson and write short films for final year
projects. I had a part time job working in a kitchen for two years. This helped
with communication skills but also proved how well I could adapt to new
environments. This also helped my productivity and work ethic. I also did
some volunteer work for them by working in charity stand up to cancer
events that they held. I also did some Halloween scare acting at an event. This
helped with following instructions and helped me gain understand of working
in different environments and gave me new experiences. I also got to observe
professionals whilst they directed the event. I have also taught myself to play
many instruments which shows creativity and commitment.
21. Conclusion
I would like to go to university because I feel that it would be a good next step for
my career path. I would like to learn more skills and improve my creative thinking
skills. I would like to earn about the industry from teachers from the industry and
will provide me with the support and equipment that I will need. It can also help
me find which areas of the industry I most enjoy and it will help me learn what my
strengths are. Going to university will help me achieve many life skills as well as
giving me experience in studios. I feel that I will be. Good candidate because I
have a positive attitude to learning and always push myself to do the best that I
can. I am very passionate about film making and the industry and would enjoy
from taking this course. I work well in groups which is important for this industry
and I have a good at staying positive whilst solving problems.
22. Introduction
I would like to apply for the film making course. I would like to go to university to get
educated about the film making process and the industry from experienced professors
from the industry. I want to gain more knowledge about film making and get
experience working in studios.
24. Which projects have you enjoyed most
this year & why?
One project that I enjoyed doing was the music video project. I enjoyed being able to
practice some camera work and editing skills. I enjoyed using premiere pro and I felt
that this task allowed me to get creative with video editing.
I also enjoyed creating the foley for the audio project. This was something new that I
enjoyed learning about during my research.
I also enjoyed using photoshop to create the magazine pages as a part of the
adventure project. I enjoyed learning new skills and finding out what I was capable of
creating in different areas of media.
25. Which projects have you least enjoyed
[& why]?
The project that I least enjoyed was the video game animation. I found the animating
process to be quite tedious and so I didn’t enjoy it very much. I also found that I didn’t
enjoy Drawing on photoshop as much as. The other tasks.
I also Didn’t enjoy the Audio project as much as some of the others. This is because I
didn’t like using adobe audition as I found it difficult.
26. What is your biggest success
My biggest success was my music video project. I felt happy with the final product and
was able to practice video and editing skills during the process. I found that I managed
to create a music video that displayed my editing skills and challenged me by using
lots of new and interesting video effects. The final product ended up working well and
showed the story I was trying to tell.
27. What has been your biggest mistake in
coursework
I feel that my biggest mistake in my coursework has been not managing my time as
well as it should have been. In some of the task I wouldn’t complete all of my research
or planning in time for production. This caused me to fall behind and end up with a lot
to catch up with by the end of the project. It also meant that I had limitations with
production because I didn’t have all the material needed to complete production to
the best of my ability. Froom this I have learned the importance of time management
and will be able to go forward with a better attitude.
28. Which skills do you think you have
develop most?
I think that my skills using Premiere Pro have developed the most. This is because a lot of the
projects that I did required using premiere pro at some point. In a lot of the projects I did I used
new and challenging video effects and techniques that helped to expand my knowledge of the
software a lot.
I also think that my Photoshop skills have developed quite a lot over the year. Before starting the
course I didn’t know how to use it at all and now I Feel quite confident using the software. I have
spent quite a lot of time in photoshop especially during the adventure project. It taught be
different skills like doing photo manipulation and creating pixel art.
I also feel that my organisational skills have improved a lot during the projects. I fell that in the
first project my planning and time management wasn’t as strong as it is now. I fell that I have
learned how to manage my time more efficiently
29. What area are aiming to specialise in
during Year 2?
In year two I am aiming to specialise in video making. This will be helpful to develop
my portfolio for universities because I would like to apply for a filmmaking course. This
will then help me gong forward into a career in the film ad TV industry. Doing video
based production in my second year will also help me to further develop the skills
which are needed for the industry. I will be able to get stronger in areas such as;
editing, time management, creative thinking, camera work and more.
