A local area network (LAN) connects computers within a building or nearby buildings to allow users to share devices, programs, files and emails. Each computer connects to the LAN through a network card installed in the computer with an RJ45 port. Switches are networking devices that have multiple RJ45 ports and are faster than hubs, knowing which computers are connected to each port. Routers connect multiple networks, with home networks typically using a wireless router. The TCP/IP protocol ensures reliable transfer of information between different operating systems and networks by using TCP to reliably transfer data and IP to deliver it to the destination computer identified by its unique IP address.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

• in the same building or in buildings that are close together.
• Private networks that allow users to share devices and programs, or send files and emails. (Ethernet)
3. NETWORK CARD
• An electronic device connects a computer to a computer network.
• Each network node has to have special communications card specific to the type of Ethernet that is
being set up.
• Each node has a communications card with an RJ45 port.
• A cable with an RJ45 is used to connect the communications card to the networking device.
4. SWITCH
• These are active network elements.
• Have RJ45 ports.
• Are faster than hubs.
• Always know which nodes are connected to their ports.
• Stacks are the form how switchs are connected.
5. ROUTER
• Join multiple networks.
• Home networks typically use a wireless.
• Wireless routers.
6. PROTOCOL TCP/IP
• Help to ensure reliable transfer of information.
• Thanks to this protocol, different operating systems and different networks can communicate
each other.
7. TCP/IP
• TCP provides reliable transfer of information transmitted across the network.
• The protocol IP transfers information to the destination computer.
8. IP ADRESS
• All computers that are connected to the Internet must be identifiable.
• Its function is to find computers easily.
