There are three main types of rubrics that can be used to assess physical education: checklist rubrics, analytical rubrics, and holistic rubrics. Checklist rubrics simply check off whether certain behaviors or skills are present or absent. Analytical rubrics require judging the quality or level of certain dimensions or descriptors, using either numbers in a quantitative rubric or words in a qualitative rubric. Holistic rubrics evaluate the overall performance for a task rather than individual elements. An example is provided of how a checklist rubric could be used to assess fitness.
