1. Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving Day in America is a time to offer thanks, of
family gatherings, friend gatherings, and holiday meals. A time of
turkeys, stuffing, pumpkin pie, corn, holiday parades, giant
balloons, and let’s not forget the American football games. You
can also thank God for all the food on your plate. Thanksgiving is
celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November in the US.
Thanksgiving is a harvest festival and a native holiday.
The first Thanksgiving occurred on the sight of Plymouth
Plantation, in 1621. The first Thanksgiving was started when the
pilgrims came to the new land and met the Indians or the Native
Americans and shared their harvest. Both Indians and Pilgrims
hunted and gathered food to create the feast. The first
Thanksgiving lasted three days providing enough food for 53
pilgrims and 90 Indians. On the first Thanksgiving feast people did
not eat what I eat today. Instead turkey, they ate duck, geese,
venison, fish, lobster, clams, squash, berries, and many more
vegetables because they were not able to find the foods we eat on
the holiday today either because they were not able to find it in the
area or they couldn’t grow or kill the food. I like Thanksgiving
because I get to stuff my face with food and see family and friends.
