  2. 2. History <ul><li>The tradition started inAmerica to celebrate the Fall Harvest. The pilgrims who came from Europe to America received help from the Indians and they were able to survive </li></ul><ul><li>Because it centered around the harvest, the date changes every year </li></ul><ul><li>In America its celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November </li></ul>

Native Americans <ul><li>On Thanksgiving, we often tell the story about the Pilgrims surviving the first winter with the help of the Native Americans. </li></ul><ul><li>As children, we put on a play about the “First Thanksgiving”. Children dress up as pilgrims, indians or turkeys! </li></ul>
  5. 5. Turkey <ul><li>The typical food on Thanksgiving is a roasted turkey with many side dishes </li></ul>Sides include: Mashed Potatoes Stuffing Green bean casserole Macaroni and cheese Roasted corn Apple pies Pecan pies Pumpkin pies

Football <ul><li>It is very traditional to watch American football on Thanksgiving </li></ul><ul><li>Some people go to see live games, but others watch at home on TV </li></ul><ul><li>Some neighborhoods and groups organize touch or flag football games to be outside and enjoy the beautiful fall weather! </li></ul>

Macy´s Parade <ul><li>The Macy’s Day Parade is a tradition in New York City, but it is watched on TV throughout the country. </li></ul><ul><li>Many people watch the parade as part of their Thanksgiving tradition. </li></ul><ul><li>There are huge floats depicting everything from traditional thanksgiving scenes to characters from pop culture. </li></ul>
  10. 12. Black Friday Shopping <ul><li>There is traditionally a huge sale the day after Thanksgiving </li></ul><ul><li>They offer great deals, but there are huge crowds. </li></ul>
  11. 13. The pilgrims were thankful for the help from the Indians. So Thanksgiving is a time to be thanksful! Most families go around the table and say something they are thankful for before eating.
