Classification <ul><li>The Red-tailed Black Cockatoo's closest relative is the Glossy Black Cockatoo. </li></ul><ul><li>They are distinguished from the other Black Cockatoos by their sexual dimorphism and their Babies calls. </li></ul><ul><li>They are found in south western Victoria and south eastern South Australia </li></ul>
  3. 3. Description <ul><li>Red Tailed Black Cockatoos measure around 60 centimetres in length. </li></ul><ul><li>Males weigh between 670 to 920 grams and females weigh a bit less 615 to 870. </li></ul>

Habitat <ul><li>The red Tailed Black Cockatoo lives in the drier parts of Australia. </li></ul><ul><li>They are widespread across the northern half of Australia. </li></ul><ul><li>They leave all areas with high Humidity in The summer wet season. </li></ul><ul><li>When Cockatoos start moving they tend to follow food sources. </li></ul>

Behaviour <ul><li>Red Tailed Black Cockatoos are very noisy and seen flying high in small flocks and sometimes mixed with other cockatoos. </li></ul><ul><li>They are mainly seen flying in big flocks when up north and chasing their food. </li></ul><ul><li>They are usually shy of humans. </li></ul>

Diet <ul><li>The red tailed black cockatoos eat a wide variety of introduced and native grains but they mainly eat eucalyptus seeds. </li></ul><ul><li>There has been some sightings of them eating some wild radish and wild turnip. </li></ul><ul><li>They as well as eating seeds they eat various Berries, fruits, insects and some grubs. </li></ul>

Breeding <ul><li>The Male Red Tailed Black Cockatoo show off by puffing up their crest and their cheek feathers and by hiding their beak and then it sings and struts, ending in a jump and a flash of red tail feathers towards the female who will usually bite back defensively. </li></ul><ul><li>Breeding usually happens from May to September except for the south eastern species, they start nesting from December to February. </li></ul>
