Have to distill an idea into a short character limit
(speaking of shameless self promotion)
Actual tweet, <140 characters, can include links and @-mentions of other people
Relatively new. Works for images, video, articles, etc.
Twitter handle and display name don’t have to be related
Tweet aggregate in a stream in real time. Only see tweets of those you follow.
You get a notification every time someone mentions you
#hashtags are both for events and extra flavor
Old school was to “RT @XXX …”
Can reply to multiple people in 1 tweet (though it costs characters). Note that replies are HIDDEN in a stream unless people follow both you and the person you are replying to. Real power of Twitter here in having real-time conversations.
Can follow leaders in your field, famous people, or brands.
Follow who your friends follow/chat with/retweet
And don’t message people thanking them for following you
