Television began broadcasting experimentally in Portugal in September 1956, starting regular broadcasts two months later from the studios of RTP in Lumiar. Color television was introduced in 1954 in the U.S. on the NBC network. Emissions are now transmitted via satellite. Television provides information in real time, is educational through documentaries, and entertaining, while allowing exposure to other cultures, but can also expose viewers to violence and excessive commercials, leading to excessive time spent watching.
