INTRODUCTION
Television is one of our world’s most important means of
communication. It shows us information programs, like the
news, documentaries, and sports events. We can watch films,
listen to interviews and hear the sounds of events that happen
far away. Television teaches us about countries and cultures
and we can enjoy entertainment, like series, comedies, game
shows or sitcoms.
Television is a system for transmitting visual images and
sound that are reproduced on screens, chiefly used to
broadcast programs for entertainment, information, and
education. The television set has become a commonplace in
many households, businesses, and institutions
The word television comes from Ancient Greek τῆλε
(tèle), meaning 'far', and Latin visio, meaning 'sight'.
The First Electronic Television was Invented in
1927.
Inventors from all over the world had been working
on transmitting pictures or objects onto a screen
since the 1830’s, but the first physical television
didn’t evolve until the 1900’s.
ORIGIN
MECHANISM OF TELEVISION
Television is really a three-part invention:
The TV camera that turns a picture and
sound into a signal.
 The TV transmitter that sends the signal
through the air.
 The TV receiver (the TV set in your home)
that captures the signal and turns it back into
picture and sound. ...
Think of TV as an electronic flick-book
BEGINNING OF TELEVISION
1884’s-

the air
1930-

1817-
Baron Ȯns

Louis May of
Great Britain
discovered, in
1873, that the
element is a
strong
electrical
conductor
Sir William
Crookes
invented the
cathode ray
tube in 1878
In 1888, W.
Hallwachs
applied
photoelectri
c cells in
cameras
Boris Rosing of
Russia and A. A.
Campbell-
Swinton of Great
Britain, both
working
independently in
1907
Logie Baird had
been developing
his own methods
of televised
images for many
years it was in
1924
INVENTORS
Five men became the most popular and prestigious
inventors of what we know today as television, giving the
history of TV, a rich beginning :
1. Paul Nipkow
2. John Baired
3. Charles Jenkins
4. Vladimir Zworykin
5. Philo Fransworth
MECHANICALVS. ELECTRONIC
 Mechanical television developed out of
Nipkow’s disk system and was pioneered by
British inventor John Logie Baird.
Electronic Television Pioneers German
scientist Karl Ferdinand Braun entered history
books by inventing the cathode ray tube (CRT)
in 1897.
The low image
resolution of John
Logie Baird’s
mechanical television
was a major
disadvantage that led
to the technology’s
replacement by
electronic television
systems.
BLACK & WHITE TO COLOR
The earlist television broadcasts were
transmitted in black and white, and
received or displayed by black-and-white
only television sets.
The earlist mention of color television was
in a 1904 German patent for a color
television system.
.
ANALOG TO DIGITAL
Switch from analog to digital broadcast
television is called digital Television
transition
Scottish electrical engineer John Logie
Baird gives the first demonstration of a
workable Tv system to the public
Developed in the early 1900’s and
broadcasts in early 2000’s
Wireless services &
Internet access
In 1960’s – TV
become a
political force
Tv reaches
broader
audience
In 1980’s-is
truly the
golden era of
TV
Arrival of new
technologies
In 1970’s- TV
become
common thing
in households
People prefer
TV than
newspaper
In 1990’s-
considered as
the age of
alternative
media
TV sets has
become a lot
cheaper
Throughout the
decades-Classic
TV has made us
laugh,cry, think &
form an opinion
It has well lived
beyond its time &
it will be here to
stay
•This era was from 1940’s to 1950’s
•First opened with Kraft tv theatre on 7th May,1947 & ended with last live show
of play house 90 series in 1957
•This era was ended in 1960, because audience acclaimed fare, almost all of
its taped & filmed.
•Live events could be covered & broadcast in this era.
DIGITALAGEOF TV
•This era starts in Nov,1998
•Shifting of mechanical & analo electronic technology to digital electronics
•First cable television system
•It allows tv companies to broadcast better quality sound, picture, wide
range of channels
•HD services & interactivity
•Offering multiple subchannels in the space of single channel.
