Power Poses And Their Effect On Cognition
Power Poses and their Effect on Embodied Cognition
Brandon Farley
Washington State University Vancouver
Abstract
The current study was conducted to delve deeper into the relationship between muscular changes and
subjects reported embodied cognitions. Thus was expected that power poses would have a significant
increase on subject s academic related self esteem. Subjects were 33 undergraduate students in an
undergraduate psychology research methods course (males=9, females=24). Participants were split
into 2 randomized groups, no pose control group vs. power pose group. The control group was asked
to relax as they wished, whereas the power pose group viewed images of different poses of which to
imitate from. Experimental subjects copied 2 different power poses while holding the pose for 1
minute each. All participants rated questions regarding feeling frustrated about performance, how
likely they are to feel self conscious. Opposite to the current hypothesis, results showed that power
pose condition showed similar amounts of self esteem as the no pose condition group did. Results
indicate more investigation into power poses and their effects.
Keywords: self esteem, power pose, embodied cognitions
Power Poses and their Effect on Embodied Cognition Scientists have been trying to study the
relationship between physical positions and emotions. The interaction between the mind and body is

Internal Conflict In The Black Cat
Black cats, animal abuse, schizophrenia, a fire and murder, Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat checks
all the boxes for a dark romantic piece of literature. The focus is taken off of the grotesque details of
abuse and murder but shifted towards the narrator s inner conflict. Poe s obsession with exploring the
human psyche is prevalent in this short story. Readers struggle to understand the logic, if any, behind
the actions of the unreliable narrator as he grapples with his own mind, or a supernatural force. Edgar
Allan Poe combines internal conflict and symbolism to express the theme of transformation from
innocence to evil and introduce a schizophrenic mindset that cannot comprehend reality from
supernatural occurrences. A descent into madness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edgar Allan Poe s use of symbolism in The Black Cat subtly hints at the supernatural aspect of the
story. The Evil Eye which plagued the protagonist of The Tell Tale Heart makes a reappearance. Both
Pluto and the second black cat have only one eye, and the narrator describes the second black cat s
solitary eye of fire (Poe 401) as he alarmed the investigators of the corpse in the tomb. The narrator s
claim of love for Pluto and the subsequent black cat developing into blind hatred and blame placed on
them also mirrors the protagonist in The Tell Tale Heart. The narrator blames the cats for his affliction.
Pluto signifies innocence, disfigured and eventually murdered by the narrator at the beginning of his
spiral into madness. Pluto s Evil Eye is quickly destroyed by the narrator, but is replaced with the
phantasm. The phantasm haunts the narrator, appearing after the house burns down and destroys his
wealth. The phantasm also appears on the second black cat s chest, tormenting the narrator with a
reminder of his first murder. The second black cat is the narrator s shot at redemption. His similarity to
Pluto and willingness to endure the narrator s abuse gave him a chance to redeem his innocence. Once
the protagonist commited the murder of his wife, the black cat gave up on him. Although the cats
represent innocence and redemption, the narrator s

Teletech Case Summary
Statement of Problem Teletech Corporation s CFO, Margaret Weston needs to decide three things. (1)
What are the appropriate hurdle rates for each segment of their business? (2) Is the Products and
Systems segment underperforming? And (3) How should Teletech respond to the raider Victor
Yossarian? Facts and Assumptions Teletech Corporation has two distinct business segments, the more
established Telecommunications Services segment, and the recently added Products and Systems
segment. These two business segments are in different phases of the business life cycle and thus have
radically different growth rates and characteristics. In 2004 the Telecommunications segment earned a

The complete list of companies statistics reviewed along with the comparable businesses ( Comps )
selected for use in the analysis can be found in Appendix A. Comps for the Telecommunications
Services segment are highlighted in light orange, and the Comps for the Products and Systems
segment are highlighted in light blue. Initially statistics (Including Betas, and equity debit ratios) for
the Comps was averaged to calculate the individual WACCs. Telecommunications Services Segment
Using the Comps we assume a Cost of Equity of 10.81% and a 23.92%: 76.08% Debit Equity ratio.
The resulting WACC would be 9.05%. (See Appendix B for the details of the calculation) This is
slightly below the current companywide WACC (hurdle rate) of 9.3%. Thus if viewed from this
perspective it does appear that if this segment WACC was implemented and managers invested in
projects. In practicality however the cost of the various forms of capital for the Telecommunications
will likely not change, this is what Helen Buono refers to when she says all money is green . Thus to
adjust for the practicality of how the company actually receives funding we assume that the various
forms of capital would not change from their present value and recalculate the WACC using only the
updated mix of capital from our Comps. The result is a WACC of 9.17% that is both risk adjusted and
practical. One important not is that this is currently below corporate hurdle rate and thus if this rate

THE HISTORY OF ELECTRONIC FUND TRANSFER
The history of electronic fund transfer and electronic banking are to a large extent ,closely interrelated
with that of the automated banking systems and also the growth of the consumer financial service

Neon Candy Bar Experiment
After reading the passage above on the neon candy bar which are causing children to become hyper.
All three hypothesis sound valid but the candy bar company conducted an experiment of their own
which was, giving the group of children a candy bar with less amount of sugar in it, the children still
were higher. This leads me to think that either the ink or food coloring is to blame for the
hyperactivity from consuming the neon candy bar. I don t think the ink could impact on this as much
as believed by developer C for we would have to find out what was the packaging exactly made of.
My hypothesis is that the children would be less hyperactivity after consuming a different color candy

Germany in 1531. Thomas Edison s assistant, Edward Johnson, came up with the idea of electric

Christmas tree tradition at Rockefeller Center began in 1933. Since 2004 the tree has been topped with
a 550 pound Swarovski Crystal star. And since 2007, the tree has been lit with 30,000 energy efficient

Informative Essay On Needle Abuse
We Know in this Modern World everyone one is finding a way to get relief from their stress. Their
many ways to cope with it, however that include good ways and bad ways. Good ways Would
basically include going on a vacation or spending time with their family and bad ways would include
taking synthetic drugs that ultimately would start the destruction of their lives. There are also many
harmful ways people take drugs which might even put a scar on their lives forever or even give them
some chronic diseases that would take their life. One of that phenomenon is exchanging needles or
using the same needle over and over again while doing drugs. In order to prevent chronic diseases like
HIV and AIDS, in some countries their government has started a program called a needle exchange
where drug users get the new and clean needles for their drug use. Basically, Needle and syringe
programs (NSPs) are a type of harm diminution imagination that provides clean needles and syringes
to people who have an addiction to inject drugs (referred to as PWID) to reduce the chances of getting
the diseases of HIV and other harmful blood borne viruses (hepatitis B and C). This Needle Exchange
program has helped and identified many drug users from chronic diseases. The World Health
Organization (WHO) suggest the distribution of 200 sterile needles and syringes per drug injector per
year, in order to tellingly tackle HIV transmission via this route. There are many arguments for and
against the needle

Teaching Strategies For Learning Style Preferences
It is in this article that Beck matches three teaching strategies to learning style preferences. During
which he attempts to link the 4MAT system, Dunn s LSI, and the Renzulli Smith s LSI to teaching
strategies associated to display individual learning preferences linked to the brain s hemispheres. The
4MAT system and Dunn s LSI is teacher driven teaching strategies while the Renzulli Smith s LSI
allows student input into their teaching strategies. In linking the 4MAT system to teaching strategies,
Beck further explores why certain teaching strategies are more successful and hemispheric appropriate
when adapted to their individual natural tendencies. Student learning tendencies are associated with
left mode, right mode, or multi mode tendencies. Dunn s LSI includes a wide range of motivations
that teachers should consider when determining individual learning styles that may include
psychological and cognitive variables. However, Renzulli Smith s LSI permits student to provide their
input to list their favorite to least favorite activities. All three LSI have significance, but it is ultimately
the teacher s role to provide opportunities for each student to unharness their potential.

teaching styles impacted their personal learning styles. The research suggested that

Freedom Of Expression Vs. Uncivilization Of Society
Freedom of Expression vs. Uncivilization of Society The novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,
is a story about a young white boy, Huck, who befriends a runaway slave, Jim, while both are on their
journey to freedom from the south in the early 1800 s. The author, Mark Twain, uses Huck to show the
reader that it takes strength to make one s own decisions and that a person should stand up for what is
right. The episodes that occur on land are much different than the episodes that happen on the river.
Not only is there a difference in the mentality of the characters, but in the actions they make too. The
theme of land versus river is a major motif throughout the novel. To begin with, the river is thought to
be a quiet and peaceful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two characters both see the river as meaning different things to them. To Huck, the river
represents, no civilization which means no rules and that there is nobody there to tell him what to and
what not to do. To Jim, the river symbolizes the freedom he hopes to soon have, and the freedom that
the river will lead him to. As Huck and Jim are adventuring down the river, they come to the
realization that they need each other to survive. Jim needs Huck to survive the trip down the river, and
Huck needs Jim as a parental figure in his life. The river is the pathway Huck must take to mature in
his life. The farther down the river the two go the more Huck s maturity is strengthened. When Huck
encounters the two men passing by on their canoe in the river, they ask him who is on the raft with
him. Huck goes against what he knows to be right and replies, He s white ; this shows a sliver of the
inner thoughts one has in the racist world back in this time (Twain 68). Even though the raft Huck and
Jim are traveling on may not be the biggest means of transportation, the characters still feel as if they
have plenty of room to express their freedom of words and actions. This is shown when Huck says,
other places feel so cramped and smothery, but a raft. You feel mighty free and easy and comfortable
on a raft (Twain 88) . In the event that the two may run into somewhat of a problem, they can go back
to their raft on the river and get away from the society in which

Striving for Authentic Happiness Essays
Globalization and the development of technology have provided people with more opportunities to do
whatever they want. Because of the choices, people seem to be happier to make their own choices.
However, Martin E.P. Seligman, the author of Authentic Happiness, would argue that they are not
happy because that kind of happiness does not last long. In his book, Seligman explains that there are
two kinds of happiness, pleasure and gratification. He says, [t]he pleasures are delights that have clear
sensory and strong emotional components, what philosophers call raw feels : ecstasy, thrills, orgasm,
delight, mirth, exuberance, and comfort. They are evanescent, and they involve little, if any, thinking
(102). As he shows, pleasure is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to him, gratification is a key for people to have a good life. However, Seligman explains,
[g]ratification dispels self absorption, and the more one has the flow that gratification produces, the
less depressed one is (119). Although it is clear that people need gratification more than pleasures, he
points out that [t]o start the process of eschewing easy pleasures and engaging in more gratifications is
hard (119). This difficulty of attaining gratification might make people to choose pleasure rather than
gratification. Thus, according to Seligman s definitions of happiness, it is easier for humans to seek
pleasure rather than to seek gratification. In The Psychology of Globalization , Jeffery Jensen Arnett
illustrates that young people focus on self longer by extending adulthood. Arnett notes, in global
culture, people value on individualism, free market economics, and democracy and include freedom of
choice, individual rights, openness to change, and tolerance of differences (779). Arnett argues that
globalization, especially increasing the number of choices and allowing people to have freedom of
choices affect each individual s psychological functioning. He points out, [w]hen people are allowed
to make their own choices about values, love, and work, the likelihood may be enhanced that they will

Section Of 1 Corinthians 12-13 In The Harpercollins Study...
The first section of the note on 1 Corinthians 12:12 13 in the HarperCollins Study Bible leads the
reader to contemplate the issue of unity in the body of Christ, the lack of which is arguably the origin
of most, if not all of the issues facing the Corinthian church. The Christians in Corinth were
challenged with several internal problems, many of which could have been solved by the members
seeking unity in their diversity. Paul introduces the idea that the church should function as the body of
Christ, valuing the abilities and roles that God chose for each member. The first part of the note states,
Like certain other ancient writers, Paul regards the human body as illustrating the point that unity and
diversity are not incompatible, applying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Corinthians had a way of self praise and boasting over their superior actions. They would speak in
tongues and prophecy in public not to benefit others who are in attendance but, in Paul s view, simply
to elevate themselves in the eyes of others (Bart Ehrman, A Brief Introduction to the New Testament,
p. 228). In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul lists the variety of gifts that various members of the church possess,
saying that the Spirit has assigned each gift to each individual. Paul wants the Corinthians to
understand that God has given the individuals in the community distinctive roles and gifts that, when
used appropriately, better the church as a whole. To emphasize the importance of unity in the church,
Paul writes, For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body,
though many, are one body, so it is with Christ (1 Cor 12:12). Paul shows how each member of the
church has imperative value, just as each part of the body is essential for it to work properly. The
Corinthians problem of boasting would fade away as soon as they acknowledge that there is value in
the diversity of the members of the church. God placed each person in the role that He intends for
them to fill and everyone must recognize His placement. Greater than all other gifts is the gift of love.
Love is crucial because it builds up the community and strengthens every believer, regardless of their
differences. Paul stresses that the most excellent gift is love, writing If I speak in the tongues of
mortals and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have
prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to
remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing (1 Cor

The Dangers of Smokeless Tobacco Essay
Through with Chew
Using smokeless tobacco does not require inhaling smoke into the lungs, so therefore it is completely
safer than smoking cigarette, right? Wrong. Unfortunately, smokeless and harmless are not
interchangeable terms; as a matter of fact, there is absolutely no such thing as smokeless tobacco.
Smokeless tobacco products come in many different shapes and forms, such as dip, chew, and snuff.
These types of products allow users to get a kick of nicotine without having to inhale the smoke of
cigarettes, so it is not surprising why they re so popular. Most users are unaware of it, but these
products can be just as unsafe, if not even more dangerous, than cigarettes in an abundance of ways.
This misunderstanding causes many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sugar is added to enhance the flavor of smokeless tobacco, increasing the risk for tooth decay ( It May
Be Smokeless 2). The sugar found in smokeless tobacco chemically reacts with the bacteria naturally
found on teeth, causing them to slowly decay. Other very common traits that smokeless tobacco users
have are bad breath, tooth discoloration, and sensitive teeth; all of these effects are very common in
abusive users and can be permanent if not cared for.
Also, the main reason these smokeless tobacco products are so dangerous is because of the all the
hazardous chemicals found inside them, such as nicotine. Nicotine is a chemical found in all tobacco
products that has many health effects on the human body. The difference between cigarette users, who
inhale nicotine containing smoke into the lungs, and smokeless users is that they absorb the chemicals
through their oral cavities, getting nicotine to eventually travel into their bloodstreams. (Julie 1). As a
matter of fact, users [of smokeless tobacco] generally absorb more nicotine from smokeless tobacco
products than from cigarettes (Julie 2). If more people were aware of this fact, they would definitely
think twice before chewing/dipping again. When individuals buy any smokeless tobacco product on
the market, they are also unknowingly purchasing the many deadly chemicals that come with it.
Furthermore, smokeless tobacco products are critically harmful

Gender Roles In The Film The Silence Of The Lambs
In the film, The Silence of the Lambs (Demme, 1991), FBI student Clarice Starling challenges
traditional gender roles as she struggles to assert her equality and overcome sexism within a
traditionally male dominated profession. However, the constant pressures placed on Starling to mask
her femininity in order to gain respect, as a result of sexist attitudes portrayed in the film, as well as
Starling s reliance on male characters, undermine the movie s liberal feminist perspective and

It is obvious that Starling s contribution to the Buffalo Bill case is nothing to scoff at. She, often with
the help of her also female friend, is the one to embark on the small journeys and discover many of the

encounters with the unsettling Hannibal Lecter, discovering and searching the storage unit, and
uncovering the evidence that Gumb was making a woman suit, evidence which finally led her to his
elusive place of dwelling, while her fellow male agents led a fruitless storming of an empty house
miles away. She is also the one who in the end actually shoots and kills Gumb and physically and
officially brings his reign of terror to an end. All these instances of Clarice Starling s success in her

evidence of a female being able to equal and even supersede a males abilities. However upon close
examination, Starling s achievements are not without assistance from male figures and therefore
cannot be considered a truly feminine achievement. First off, she is deeply driven by the early death of
her father. Starling tells Lecter that her mother died when she was very young and her father was her
whole world. However, her father, a small town sheriff, was unjustly murdered in his work. Starling is
driven to her desire for achievement in the FBI by her immense longing to complete her father s work,
emulate his image, and thus metaphorically avenge his death by finally bringing justice upon those
who murder the innocent. Buffalo Bill, as the serial murderer of innocent young girls, serves as the
perfect target at which Starling can direct these ambitions. Therefore, it could be argued that without

Types Of Diplomacy And Combat Terrorism
5 types of diplomacy to combat terrorism
The ever changing nature of terrorism threats have led many states to devise collaborative methods to
fight terrorist organizations by adapting regular security assessments and taking counterterrorism
measures in order to overcome them. Through diplomacy, many states are searching for advanced
support, methods, structures, and tools to combat internal threats and win war against terrorism
(Phillips, Neal Webb, 2011). Diplomacy is an instrument of power that can build political will and
foster international cooperation. Through diplomatic support, nations can promote counterterrorism
assistance that serves mutual interests. In addition, diplomacy can help nations to fight against
terrorists by controlling resources that terrorists need. The five common types of diplomacy
counterterrorism strategies adopted by the U.S. include trainings, finance control programs, research,
terrorist interdiction program, and foreign emergency support program.
In training diplomacy, the aim is to train and equip foreign states to fight terrorists within and around
their borders. Through these trainings, many states have established effective communication systems
and have improved their border monitoring abilities (Peterson, 2012). In regard to the finance control
diplomacy, the U.S. has established a program to help other nations to interrupt and control the flow of
funds going to support terrorists operations and to reinforce the financial and

Essay On Career Clusters
My career clusters was performing arts and I chose the career named, Music Director/Composer.
Directors lead orchestras, choirs, groups, and bands while composers make music or arrange other
piece in a variety of music styles. Directors ensure that the musicians play with one concert sound,
balancing the melody, tuning, rhythm, and dynamic. They give feedback to the musicians or section
leaders so that they can achieve the sound and style they want in the music. The work environment for
directors work in religious organizations, and schools with music programs. They also spend a lot of
time traveling around to and places. Composers work in offices, recording studios, or their own home.
Similar occupations of this career are actors, dancer and choreographers, high, middle, and elementary

Queen Emma Kanaiea Rooke Analysis
Queen Emma Kalanikaumakaʻamano Kaleleonālani Naʻea Rooke, born on January 2, 1836 in
Honolulu, is best remembered for her efforts and dedications to establishing the Queen s Medical
Hospital. As the daughter of Fanny Kekelaokalani Young and George Naʻea, her bloodline was closely
related to Kamehameha I. As was custom, Queen Emma was offered and adopted by her mother s
sister, Grace Kamaikui Rooke and her husband, Dr. T.C.B. Rooke. Her upbringing involved a mix of
British and Hawaiian child rearing, and she grew up speaking English and Hawaiian. In 1856, Queen
Emma became queen consort to Kamehameha IV, Alexander Liholiho. Throughout her life, Queen
Emma had accomplished many humanitarian efforts for Native Hawaiians. When King Lunalilo died,

The author makes unbacked claims about Queen Emma s response to the riot. The author says that
when a few individuals tried to ask the Queen to calm the rioters she ...treated this message with
indifference, as no concern of hers. Subsequently she promised another gentleman that she would go,
but did not go. This statement makes Queen Emma look cold and untrustworthy. Saying that she
treated the message with indifference paints her as an uncaring person. The author also claims that she
promised someone to go, but they do not provide the name of this person. Without a name, there is no
way of fact checking this statement. However, the author chooses to include this to portray Queen
Emma in a negative light. Later in the article, the author states that Queen Emma sent a note to the
rioters that said, That if they could not obtain their desires now, perhaps they had better wait until the
morrow, when a new election for Sovereign could be had! 3 Despite earlier claiming that Queen
Emma was indifferent to the plea to calm the rioters, she did address them. In this note, Queen Emma
does not encourage the rioters to continue, and instead she encourages them to wait to try to change

I Am A Blonde Bombshell
Just like every other young girl at the age of ten, I screamed and cried for the Jonas brothers as they
sang Burnin up on my living room television. But, there was someone else who intriguingly caught
my attention every night in that same living room, her name was Tricia. Tricia, the second oldest,
blonde bombshell took the center of attention every night, as she dazzled everybody away with her
college etiquette. Behind her beauty, honor roll achievements, and being the only member in our
family to attend college, there was something else that I admired more than just Tricia herself; it was
the gibberish she spoke. It wasn t goo goo gaga baby gibberish. Her gibberish was fluent, constant,
bold, and captivating. She made every story sound interesting, and could keep her audience listening
in awe. Tricia s gibberish was state of the art vocabulary words I have never even heard before, words
that I never even knew existed. She baffled me with her sentences containing words like; hackneyed,
jubilation, and perfidious. How could I gain this gibberish ? Did I have to be blonde? I was not smart
enough? Of course, these are some of the bizarre viewpoints; I questioned myself about on, how I
could obtain such gibberish . I yearned to sound smart just like Tricia, which later on led me to my
obsession with Sanabria 2 enhancing every aspect of my vocabulary. After spending sometime
researching, I found that reading, writing, listening, and speaking are the

Tragic Figure In Antigone
In Sophocles Antigone, Kreon and Antigone encountered opposing obligations torn between their duty
to their people and Thebes and their duty to their family and gods. While Kreon ultimately chose his
people and Thebes, Antigone chose her family and gods. This conflict of obligation between the two
caused the strife between the two and resulted in the demise of both characters. They could both
represent tragic figures, but Kreon is the most tragic figure in the play. His adherence to his duty as
king to his people and Thebes over his duty to his family resulted in the death of his family, thus he
must live the rest of his life acknowledging the fact that the loss of his loved ones was caused by his
pride and stubbornness. This outcome is far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite her focus on her obligation to family leading to her downfall, she is not the most tragic figure
in the play. In Sophocles Antigone, Antigone chose her brother over her community s unjust laws
imposed by Kreon. Her reason for such a defiance is best summed up by her response to Ismene when
she reveals her plan to break the law. You be as you think best, but I shall bury him. I ll lie there, dear
to him, with my dear friend, when I ve performed this crime of piety; for I must please those down
below a longer time than those up here, since I shall lie there always (71 76). It is clear from this
conversation between the two that Antigone feels an obligation to her family and brother to give him
the proper burial. She makes it clear that her brother was very dear to her and she loved him deeply.
Her deep love for him made her capable of defying her community s laws and face death. She would
rather lie in death next to her brother than never see her brother given the proper customary burial that
all in the community receive. This deep love is also shown to her sister as she is willing to deny that
her sister knew anything about her plan in order to ensure her sister does not get harmed.

Depersonalization Disorder
After gathering information about Caleb from his homeroom teacher and another session with his
mother, I considered two more disorders. Caleb s mother mentioned that Caleb s father physically and
verbally abused her and Caleb witnessed the abuse several times. This immediately made me think of
Trauma and Stressor Related Disorders. I also considered Dissociative Disorders, although
Dissociative Disorders are not labeled as a Trauma and Stressor Related Disorders in the DSM 5, they
are triggered by traumatic events. The primary disorder I thought of after my second session with

I am not sure whether to report schizophreniform Disorder or Schizophrenia because it is not clear
how long Caleb has displayed negative symptoms and symptoms of catatonia. It is also unclear
whether his behavior is due to the physiological effects of a substance, which is important to consider
since he was caught drinking alcohol. However, Schizophreniform Disorder and Schizophrenia is still
worth considering due to the possibility that Caleb may have had a hallucination and was rather
obsessed with his fantasies during his daycare years, as mentioned in the first session. Caleb also may
have another symptom of catatonia, making a total of three symptoms of catatonia, which is the
minimum requirement. Caleb exhibited negativism by not reporting or reacting to bullying behavior
targeted at him; Caleb simply ignores his peers when they tease him, rather than respond or report
them. Moreover, there is still reason to consider Autism Spectrum Disorder, based on his mother s and
homeroom teacher s report. During the second session, Caleb s mother admitted that her sister has
severe autism, indicating that there may be a genetic link to Caleb s eccentric behavior. Furthermore,
his teacher reported that Caleb is academically average, and has exceptional written vocabulary skills,
which eliminates the possibility of Caleb s behavior

What Is The Characteristics Of Gram Positive Or Gram...
Introduction:
There are two major classes of bacteria that contain peptidoglycan, Gram positive and Gram negative.
Gram positive bacteria will stain dark purple due to their thick peptidoglycan cell wall, while Gram
negative will stain pink due to their thin peptidoglycan cell wall. Many Gram positive and negative
bacteria are considered pathogens because they are capable of causing disease in humans. In order to
treat properly individuals who are infected with a pathogenic Gram positive or Gram negative
bacteria, the identity of the bacteria must be found. In this experiment numerous, differential and
selective media, as well as chemical test, were used to evaluate the growth patterns and characteristics
of clinically relevant bacteria. Data collected from the specific results was used to create a chart that
was used to identify an unknown Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.
The genus Staphylococcus is a Gram positive cocci that is commonly arranged in grapelike clusters.
They are universally present in large numbers on the mucous membranes and skin of humans and
other warm blooded animals. They are non spore forming, nonmotile, facultative anaerobes. Many
species of staphylococcus can be pathogenic. Staphylococcus aureus is the most common pathogen. It
can be recovered from skin lesions, abscesses, and wound infections. It can move from these sites to
the bloodstream and urine, where it then has the possibility to cause more serious conditions in various
organs.

Films made in the 1930 s emphasised on the monster and gore. When seen through the eyes of the
original audiences, critics and censors, the thirties Horrors were a fairly nasty lot. (3) Dracula was the
first classic Horror film in the 1930 s, which contained sound. It received financial success as well as
negative responses from critics. They saw these types of movies and had to consider whether people
would copy the violence or see the movie, as it was, that these acts of violence were just for the story.
Frankenstein (1931), Freaks (1932) and Island of Lost Souls (1933) were movies that caused outrage
with censors in Britain. They didn t like the influence these films could have on young teenagers,
which were primarily there target audience. The British ban on horror movies were instated in 1937,

The dislike of the monster was not the only issue that censors had with these films, but the sexual

The Growing Trend of Sex and Violence in Media Today...
Modern day society is composed of rules and structures. The general public has become much more
sensitive over the years, resulting in a very politically correct atmosphere. Moreover, parents have
decided that the opportune way of reaching their ambitions is through the lives of their children.
Under this strict lifestyle, one would presume that our values are very conservative. Surprisingly, the
opposite is true. Due to the sexual and violent permissiveness in today s Multi Media, our society has
developed a sordid standard of morals. Sex is often considered to be taboo among families. Parents do
not want to believe that their children are aware of it, and vice versa. While the family is living in a

Media boardrooms have become corporate playgrounds which consistently intensify the raciness of its
images and videos to maintain the shock value of sex. Consequently, all forms of sex have become
increasingly acceptable. It is no longer considered taboo to perform sexual acts soon after meeting an
individual. Sex was once restricted to married couples, but even pre teenage children have lost their
innocence. Due to its unspoken nature within families, parents are often unaware of their child
s/children s sexual activity. Only exposed to the attractive side of sex conveyed by the media, children
do not receive appropriate education, resulting in teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted
diseases. The saturation of sexual messages by the media would lead an outsider to believe that we are
very permissive of sexual behaviour, yet the very opposite is taught at the family level. Violence in
society has suffered a similar fate. We are taught from a very young age that violence is wrong. We are
all aware that instead of hitting people, we should resolve our problems through conversation,
violence is never the answer. If this is common knowledge, why does our society have so much
violence? Unfortunately, this can also be blamed on the media. Parents teach their children that
violence is inappropriate, but the media implies that it is acceptable. Some of today s most popular

What Caused The English Revolution Essay
For a country to have a functioning government, the members of it, have to agree on the important
political issues the country is facing. The English Revolution was caused by the fact that the members
of the English government didn t agree on many things. This caused problems in the government and
ultimately, led to the Glorious Revolution. The Glorious Revolution was a successful end to the
English Revolution because The English Bill of Rights solved England s key political conflicts. These
key political conflicts were who controlled taxes, the guidelines for the Catholic Church and the rights
for the members of Parliament.
The conflict between the king and Parliament over who would control taxes went on for a little more
than 400 years, until the English Bill of Rights was signed in 1689. The Magna Carta, drafted in 1215,

My Experience Of Writing
As a child, writing was foreign to me. I spent most of my time playing in the grand outdoors with my
sister, or practicing flute or piano indoors. I knew from an early child I wanted to play music, so I had
no time for writing, and no interest in doing it. The only time I ever wrote was when required for the
annual school celebration of author s day. Unlike Orwell, I did not want to be a writer as a kid; in fact,
I wanted nothing to do with it. I, as well, am the middle child of three; but, I grew up with the constant
companionship of my sister. With my sister always by my side, I had no need to write down what I
thought or felt. Soon, my sister was off to middle school, and I left an empty spot that I began to fill
with writing. Eventually, I decided I didn t just want my stories shared with my sister; I wanted more
people to read them. In early adolescence I began experimenting with short stories; however,
containing too many metaphors, similes, and personification to follow, they always lacked a plot.
Naively, I flaunted these stories about, and read them to all who would listen. My stories of fairies and
dragons were perfect to me, but soon I had annoyed all my family and friends with these ridiculous
stories. Not until I received a failing grade on a school essay did I realize I needed to change my
writing style. Unfortunately, my writing then went from having too much imagery to having none at
all. My stories became dull and simple, the bear minimum needed

Differences Of Marriage In Geoffrey Chaucer s The...
In Geoffrey Chaucer s work The Canterbury Tales, The Franklin s Tale and The Merchant s Tale
depict many differences on the characters and authors outlook on marriage. In both of Chaucer s tales,
the manner in which marriage transpires between the two couples varies prominently. Additionally, the
effort to control the wives in the tales is also conspicuously different. In Chaucer s two tales, the
author depicts the differences in both women by seeing if they are faithful to the vows of their
marriage. Throughout the Canterbury Tales, Chaucer demonstrates to the reader a true and ethical
appeal by using the aspect of marriage. The ways in which marriage begins in Chaucer s two tales
differs with each individual couple. For example, in The Franklin s Tale the righteous knight,
Arviragus, marries his love, Dorigen, but only after honorably courting her for some time. A knight
that loved and dide his pain to serve a lady in his beste wyse; and many a labour, many a greet

hand. Nonetheless, after their wedding he still continuously and passionately served her and continued
to earn her undying love. Despite the noble deeds done in The Franklin s Tale , Chaucer did not
bestow the Merchant s Tale characters with the same level of honor and righteousness. For instance,

Analysis Of Sunsets And Sunsets
In the poems, She sweeps with many Colored Brooms , by Emily Dickenson, and Sunsets , by Carl
Sandburg; the authors compare sunset to women. The beauty of sunset is the central in both poems
however, they each contain different ideas about sunset. For example, Dickenson, focuses more on the
beauty of sunset while, Sandburg, compares a sunset to a woman s demeanor, and brings out the
different kinds of ways the sun sets. In the poem, by Emily Dickenson she compares sunset to a
housewife. The poem cites She sweeps with many colored brooms [line 1 2], the quote is portraying
the true beauty of a housewife s chores. It is also indirectly referring to the rays of a sunset. A diligent
woman sews her own beautiful garments. She uses all different colors and types of thread to sew each
of her garments. The colorfulness of the thread can compare to a magnificent sunset. The poem
quotes, And now you ve littered all the East, with duds of emerald! [line 7 8]. Literarily, this is
referring to the threads and clothes that litter a woman s home. However, Dickenson is referring to the
sun setting east, and shining its glow onto the world. The author, uses emerald to portray this beautiful
scene since, emerald is a considered a beautiful stone. In the poem Sunsets , by Carl Sandburg, he
compares a woman s demeanor to sunset. A woman naturally carries a major role in life, and is also
considered a symbol of beauty and elegance. The poem states Ribbon at the ears, sashes at

monumental brutalist buildings during the 1950s and 1960s. By exploring historical and contextual

when there was a significant change in direction for British architecture. Brutalism descended from
the Modernist architectural movement of the early 20th Century and was a mid century reaction by the

Preventing Attacks on New Network-Based Systems
Preventing Attacks on Nee Network Based Systems Introduction Recent changes in the organizational
structure of the IT system has left open needs for adjusting practices in order to address new demands
of protection. The organization has recently made the move from a standalone system to a network
based one, which facilitates greater cooperation and collaboration within the company and increasing
overall productivity. A network based system provides a more flexible structure to still function within
a diverse and multifaceted environment. It does so by the fact that within its structure, communication
between components is restricted to message passing, or the equivalent of message passing is a more
efficient mechanism can be selected at runtime based on the location of components (Fielding, 2000).
Network based systems allow communication and dissemination of information to occur seamlessly
without lag. This then further empowers individual employees of the organization with greater
technological tools. The research suggests that network based systems are those capable of operation
across a network, but not necessarily in a fashion that is transparent to the user, but rather as an
automatic process that increases the ease and productivity of each user while working on the system
(Fielding, 2000). As such, it comes with a wide variety of benefits to increase the productivity and
efficiency of the organization. Analysis However, with the implementation of a

Growing up in a city known as the big melting pot, or big gumbo; New Orleans, La has many different
cultures and is a very diverse city. Personally, I love the mixed culture of people from different
background, beliefs, and way of living. At the same time, this intangible mixture can cause a lot of
trouble and disagreements. From inside school grounds, to outside, cultures clash. During this month
of August everyone is reminded of Hurricane Katrina and I cannot help, but to think about how during
that experience so much trouble was going on between the different cultures in the city. Through that
experience I also saw the entire city bind together and unify during the historic New Orleans and
Atlanta Monday night football game. During that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When preparing for this big event, there are certain rituals performed. Some rituals include pre game
talk from sport anchors, buying of apparel, and Super Bowl parties. Sport Anchors go all day
discussing other teams that had chances to make it, but most importantly they discuss the two teams
playing, their key players, and players that once played for them. At this point, the sport anchors are
getting everyone involved with the history of the teams as well as current information about the teams
and players to remind fans and viewers. One thing that stood out to me about the preparation of the
Super Bowl and the sport anchors were the discussion of Stuart Scott. Stuart Scott was a well known
sport anchor that recently died of cancer. They brought him up and became emotional because of his
debt to society, sport, and the cultural of the sport. He was an inspiration to individuals who didn t
engage or watch sport on the regular. Even some of the players of the Super Bowl teams discussed
how much he had impacted their lives. This shows another level of cultural unity among players and
individuals who analyze the sport. Fans are also getting involved by pulling from their closets
throwback Jerseys and current player jerseys that contain players of them team they adore. Another
activity that everyone can partake in that is performed often are Super Bowl parties. Individuals get
together to watch the game and eat typical food such as wings, chips dip, and drinking beer. Those
particular rituals are what brings society together to come and watch the big game. Rituals that bring
cultures and people from all walks of life together through the avenue of sports. Sports is one of the
greatest platforms in the world. Not only can it can be used for entertainment, but it can also be used
to bring cultures together and to unify them into one. Without sports the world would be more divided
than ever,

Rejection Of Evil
As a soul living in a manipulative society, this has made me consider who really is the cause of the
evil of the world. The American government we have been co existing with has made it seem that the
other countries, China, Russia, and Middle Eastern counties, have power and wish to destroy the
Americans. But the American government itself, are the destroyers. The control over human life is
now in the hands of the top dogs of America, and we don t know exactly who they are. They can
control energy, food supply, education, healthcare, and pretty much every aspect of the human
experience. My evil is a system that has mysteriously and deceptively trickled their way into our
mentality to make us think we need them, but they need us. Resisting this evil force, is done through
acknowledgement and being aware of who and what the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone must express their true thoughts of situations that affect society and one once there is
knowledge there must be a way for acceptance. Acceptance of religions, which consider of the
physiological perspective of the meaning of the unknown purpose in life, brings ultimate peace and
unity. No matter the difficulty, it ll always be the first option to strive for the easy path. The hardest
path will bring that negativity and hatred to the ones who want change. The change towards love is
what scares humanity. Love from what I experience, is an unknown path that can lead to happiness
and the outcomes are always different yet beautiful. But if society keeps indulging in hatred, we know
the outcome is death. Love is all we need. Humans desire the unknown concept of love but it is
smashed by the powers by emphasizing hate by domination. Love acts are done through non violent
movements. Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and the now current Native American movement, are results
of the battle of the fire of hatred with the fire of

Issues in the Business World: An Anthropological Perspective Michael P. Lillis and Robert Guang
Tian Department of Business, Medaille College, New York Abstract: The significance of cultural
influence on business has been widely recognized in both academic and business circles. A number of
authors suggest that an anthropological approach is the most appropriate way to study cultural factors
and assess their impact on an organizational environment. This investigation draws attention to several
important cultural issues in business utilizing an anthropological perspective. It probes the relationship
between culture and human behavior, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anthropology, especially cultural anthropology, seeks to understand how and why peoples of the
world differ in various ways as well as how and why peoples of the world share certain similarities. It
is not at all unusual for people to assume that their own ways of thinking and acting are
unquestionably rational normal or human. Cultural anthropological study provides us a look at the
enormous variations in thinking and acting found in the world today due to the cultural differences
and at same time anthropological literature has documented many different solutions generated for
solving the same problems cross culturally. Therefore, anthropologists do more than simply document
the enormous variations in human cultures by identifying and describing the commonalities of humans
amid the great diversity, which are the regularities found in all cultural contexts regardless of how
different those contexts might appear at first glance (Ferraro, 2005). Anthropologists have traditionally
used a qualitative research approach to study human behaviors in different cultures. Such an approach
is well suited to many of the complex questions confronting researchers interested in quality and
culture. Qualitative research, more than just a set of data collection methods, is an approach that seeks
to understand events, activities, norms and values from the perspective of the people who are being
studied, anthropologists refer this way of research as the Emic approach. Qualitative

The Power Of Power In The Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins
In a life where one must rebel to stand up for what is right. In a world where there is only one
government. In a game to kill or be killed. Who truly has the power? In the novel The Hunger Games
by Suzanne Collins, power is shown in many parts of the book. Although the government is initially
successful at controlling everyone s lives in the Districts, as Katniss journey of survival progresses in
the Hunger Games, her rebellious actions damage the Capitol s power. This causes her to prove the
Capitol that they do not own her, and she has self power. Throughout the book, Suzanne Collins
portrays that everyone has certain control. Collins uses the Districts, the rebellions, and the Capitol to
get this message across to the readers. Despite being overpowered by the Capitol, the Districts still
have some control over what they can do. First, the people in their District stand together. Then
something unexpected happens..... [a]t first one, then another, then almost every member of the crowd
touches the three middle fingers of their left hand to their lips and holds it out to me.....[i]t means
thanks, it means admiration (Collins 24). In the text, District 12 is showing that they are refusing to
applaud for Katniss to enter the games. This shows that the government has brute force on their side,
but the people of District 12 have their own kind of power. This helps Katniss feel as though she is not
alone, and everyone will always be with her. Their three finger gesture makes

Hilton Hotels Case Analysis Essay
The purpose of this case analysis is to address the key marketing issue for the Hilton Hotels. The
marketing strategies Hilton should pursue in the hotel and gaming markets will be discussed and
recommendations will be made. In addition, the use and implementation of the SWOT analysis will be
incorporated throughout the discussion. Information will be provided from the case study and the use
of secondary resources for support of the marketing strategies recommended for the Hilton Hotels.
Market Summary
Hilton Hotels is one of the market leaders in the hotel and gaming industry in the United States. Hilton
is a well known and distinguished name in fine hotels across the United States and worldwide. In
1999, Hilton expanded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the cost of entertainment is a significant expense for hotels, the cost of providing
entertainment is justified by its effectiveness in attracting people to the gaming tables and machines
(McDonald, 1998, p. 4). The market is also demonstrating a trend of hotels becoming a one stop shop.
For example, hotels are not only including room stay but also gaming, entertainment, shopping,
comedy clubs, lounges, nail and hair salons and other activities and amenities desired by consumers.
This trend is demonstrating the evolution of hotels into destination resorts.
Market Growth
The market has demonstrated an increase in growth over the last decade. Sales for Hilton have also
demonstrated a steady increase, particularly once the hotels expanded to include gaming and
entertainment. Competition for the gaming dollar is intense, and the degree of investment needed to be
successful is high. Hilton has had to put more than $6 million into renovating the Las Vegas Hilton to
keep up with such rivals as the Mirage and the Excalibur (McDonald, 1998, p. 3). In addition, the
hotel market has demonstrated a consistently high occupancy rate, particularly the Hilton hotels. In
1994, Hilton hotels showed system wide occupancy of 70 percent, a three point increase over 1993,
while the U.S. hotel industry as a whole had

Gregor In Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis
In Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis Gregor, a young traveling salesman who dutifully leaves the
family apartment early every day for a job he hates so that he can pay off his father s debts. Gregor is
characterized as a bug because for the longest time he has felt nothing but pressure, so much pressure
has been thrown at him that makes it him feel small. This portrays when Gregor changes into a being
that is always alone and helpless, an insect. The first idea that leads to think Gregor is described as a
bug is because Gregor has to step up and take care of his family debt. Gregor, being a salesman doesn
t like his job, yet he continues to do it for the sake of the family. He often complains Oh God, what a
grueling job I ve picked! I ve got the torture of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gregor s father is a lazy man who does nothing all day. He lives off the money his son makes for him
because his business has failed which left him exhausted and emotionally broken and because of that
Gregor has to step up and become the breadwinner. Although, Gregor s father is in good health, he sits
around all day reading newspapers in his nightgown while his son labors at a stressful, dehumanizing
job. After Gregor s metamorphosis With a hostile expression his father clenched his fist, as if to drive
Gregor back into his room (Kafka 5). Usually when a child wants to help their parents through
financial trouble they would usually get praised for helping, stepping up to the plate. However, when
Gregor stepped up and got a job, despite its beneficial effects the father expresses considerable
hostility toward Gregor. This gave an even more stress and causes Gregor to be depressed because,
know what matter how much effort Gregor put into his job in order to help his family he would always
get nothing but neglect instead of thanks from his father. This characterizes Gregor as a bug because
he feels trapped by his father s failings just like a

Reflections From My Own Grieving
2
The study of grief and bereavement has existed since the 1900 s when Freud came
out with his idea of Mourning and Melancholia . Since then, there has been much more
research done as well as theories created to make sense of the notion of losing someone.
Within the current literature I have been reading on the topic, the use of stage theories of
grieving are considered too rigid and are inaccurate representations of grief. As we know
from basic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every person has a narrative truth
about themselves and the people around them, which changes overtime. The MRM is
organized into 6 propositions: 1. Death can validate or invalidate the constructions we have
or don t have 2. Grief is an intimate experience that is tied to who we are as people 3.
Grieving is something we do, not something that happens to us 4. Grieving either affirms or
reconstructs a personal world of meaning 5. Feelings are efforts towards making meaning 6.
Identities continue to be reconstructed. (Lister) This model focuses wholly on the person
living with loss finding meaning.
When I was twelve years old, a close family friend of mine named Evan (who was my
age) was diagnosed with brain cancer. At that age, I hadn t been introduced to death and nor
did I really know or understand what cancer was or that it was possible for people so young to
die. Before his death at age thirteen, my sister and I would spend a lot of time with him playing
videogames, watching movies and swimming in his backyard pool. We watched the process of
Evan losing his hair, having cancer treatments, doing physiotherapy and becoming very weak
and fragile and rejecting treatments. I remember the day I found out that Evan had passed
away so clearly. I was in grade eight and my mom had picked me up from school. When she
broke me the news I

Paper Towns
The book I am currently reading is called Paper Towns by John Green, the genre of the book is
mystery because close to the ending of the book she leaves clues to where she ran away. There are 305
pages in the book. A review this book got on it was The following is quite a lot of dribble that I felt the
need to get off my chest... . I recommend this book ages 14 and above because it has some words that
are bad and I think some kids parents might not want their kids to see those words. The most
important characters in Paper Towns are Margo Spiegelman and Quentin Jacobsen. Margo is quite a
dare devil, she challenges herself A LOT. She sneaks out of the house at night when her parents are
asleep. Margo can be funny but then turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quentin then asked why she wanted to borrow the car, she then responded saying she had to do things
and go to the store. So they soon got into the car and drove off to the store. Margo needed: Vaseline,
six pack Mountain Dew, one dozen Tulips, one bottle of water, tissues, and one can of blue spray
paint. The reason Margo needed that stuff was because she was trying to get revenge on her friends
and ex boyfriend. Why?, Because he was cheating on her with another girl and her friends knew all
along and they didn t even think of telling Margo that he was cheating on her. I think the theme of this
book is, to get revenge on people for not telling you bad things so later on they won t hurt you, like in
this case Margo s ex boyfriend. I think this is the theme because if Margo s friends have told her
sooner, she wouldn t of been doing this to all her friends and her ex boyfriend. The conflict is mostly
Man Vs. Society like as Quentin tries to solve the clues she left and finding her. It s also Man Vs.
Society as Quentin is trying to find Margo because she disappeared and he feels guilty. Since my book
was made into a movie, I would have to compare 1 thing of the movie and book. Sea World In The
Book In the book it talks about how it s the ONLY theme park Margo has

Power Poses And Their Effect On Cognition Power Poses and their Effect on Embodied Cognition Brandon Farley Washington State University Vancouver Abstract The current study was conducted to delve deeper into the relationship between muscular changes and subjects reported embodied cognitions. Thus was expected that power poses would have a significant increase on subject s academic related self esteem. Subjects were 33 undergraduate students in an undergraduate psychology research methods course (males=9, females=24). Participants were split into 2 randomized groups, no pose control group vs. power pose group. The control group was asked to relax as they wished, whereas the power pose group viewed images of different poses of which to imitate from. Experimental subjects copied 2 different power poses while holding the pose for 1 minute each. All participants rated questions regarding feeling frustrated about performance, how likely they are to feel self conscious. Opposite to the current hypothesis, results showed that power pose condition showed similar amounts of self esteem as the no pose condition group did. Results indicate more investigation into power poses and their effects. • 3. Internal Conflict In The Black Cat Black cats, animal abuse, schizophrenia, a fire and murder, Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat checks all the boxes for a dark romantic piece of literature. The focus is taken off of the grotesque details of abuse and murder but shifted towards the narrator s inner conflict. Poe s obsession with exploring the human psyche is prevalent in this short story. Readers struggle to understand the logic, if any, behind the actions of the unreliable narrator as he grapples with his own mind, or a supernatural force. Edgar Allan Poe combines internal conflict and symbolism to express the theme of transformation from innocence to evil and introduce a schizophrenic mindset that cannot comprehend reality from supernatural occurrences. A descent into madness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edgar Allan Poe s use of symbolism in The Black Cat subtly hints at the supernatural aspect of the story. The Evil Eye which plagued the protagonist of The Tell Tale Heart makes a reappearance. Both Pluto and the second black cat have only one eye, and the narrator describes the second black cat s solitary eye of fire (Poe 401) as he alarmed the investigators of the corpse in the tomb. The narrator s claim of love for Pluto and the subsequent black cat developing into blind hatred and blame placed on them also mirrors the protagonist in The Tell Tale Heart. The narrator blames the cats for his affliction. Pluto signifies innocence, disfigured and eventually murdered by the narrator at the beginning of his spiral into madness. Pluto s Evil Eye is quickly destroyed by the narrator, but is replaced with the phantasm. The phantasm haunts the narrator, appearing after the house burns down and destroys his wealth. Comps for the Telecommunications Services segment are highlighted in light orange, and the Comps for the Products and Systems segment are highlighted in light blue. Initially statistics (Including Betas, and equity debit ratios) for the Comps was averaged to calculate the individual WACCs. Telecommunications Services Segment Using the Comps we assume a Cost of Equity of 10.81% and a 23.92%: 76.08% Debit Equity ratio. The resulting WACC would be 9.05%. (See Appendix B for the details of the calculation) This is slightly below the current companywide WACC (hurdle rate) of 9.3%. Thus if viewed from this perspective it does appear that if this segment WACC was implemented and managers invested in projects. In practicality however the cost of the various forms of capital for the Telecommunications will likely not change, this is what Helen Buono refers to when she says all money is green . Thus to adjust for the practicality of how the company actually receives funding we assume that the various forms of capital would not change from their present value and recalculate the WACC using only the updated mix of capital from our Comps. The result is a WACC of 9.17% that is both risk adjusted and practical. One important not is that this is currently below corporate hurdle rate and thus if this rate was to be ... The author, Mark Twain, uses Huck to show the reader that it takes strength to make one s own decisions and that a person should stand up for what is right. The episodes that occur on land are much different than the episodes that happen on the river. Not only is there a difference in the mentality of the characters, but in the actions they make too. As Huck and Jim are adventuring down the river, they come to the realization that they need each other to survive. Jim needs Huck to survive the trip down the river, and Huck needs Jim as a parental figure in his life. The river is the pathway Huck must take to mature in his life. The farther down the river the two go the more Huck s maturity is strengthened. When Huck encounters the two men passing by on their canoe in the river, they ask him who is on the raft with him. In his book, Seligman explains that there are two kinds of happiness, pleasure and gratification. He says, [t]he pleasures are delights that have clear sensory and strong emotional components, what philosophers call raw feels : ecstasy, thrills, orgasm, delight, mirth, exuberance, and comfort. The first section of the note on 1 Corinthians 12:12 13 in the HarperCollins Study Bible leads the reader to contemplate the issue of unity in the body of Christ, the lack of which is arguably the origin of most, if not all of the issues facing the Corinthian church. The Christians in Corinth were challenged with several internal problems, many of which could have been solved by the members seeking unity in their diversity. Paul introduces the idea that the church should function as the body of Christ, valuing the abilities and roles that God chose for each member. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Corinthians had a way of self praise and boasting over their superior actions. They would speak in tongues and prophecy in public not to benefit others who are in attendance but, in Paul s view, simply to elevate themselves in the eyes of others (Bart Ehrman, A Brief Introduction to the New Testament, p. 228). In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul lists the variety of gifts that various members of the church possess, saying that the Spirit has assigned each gift to each individual. Paul wants the Corinthians to understand that God has given the individuals in the community distinctive roles and gifts that, when used appropriately, better the church as a whole. To emphasize the importance of unity in the church, Paul writes, For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ (1 Cor 12:12). Paul shows how each member of the church has imperative value, just as each part of the body is essential for it to work properly. The Corinthians problem of boasting would fade away as soon as they acknowledge that there is value in the diversity of the members of the church. God placed each person in the role that He intends for them to fill and everyone must recognize His placement. Greater than all other gifts is the gift of love. Love is crucial because it builds up the community and strengthens every believer, regardless of their differences. Paul stresses that the most excellent gift is love, writing If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. But, there was someone else who intriguingly caught my attention every night in that same living room, her name was Tricia. Tricia, the second oldest, blonde bombshell took the center of attention every night, as she dazzled everybody away with her college etiquette. Behind her beauty, honor roll achievements, and being the only member in our family to attend college, there was something else that I admired more than just Tricia herself; it was the gibberish she spoke. It wasn t goo goo gaga baby gibberish. Her gibberish was fluent, constant, bold, and captivating. She made every story sound interesting, and could keep her audience listening in awe. Tricia s gibberish was state of the art vocabulary words I have never even heard before, words that I never even knew existed. She baffled me with her sentences containing words like; hackneyed, jubilation, and perfidious. How could I gain this gibberish ? Did I have to be blonde? I was not smart enough? Of course, these are some of the bizarre viewpoints; I questioned myself about on, how I could obtain such gibberish . I yearned to sound smart just like Tricia, which later on led me to my obsession with Sanabria 2 enhancing every aspect of my vocabulary. Tragic Figure In Antigone In Sophocles Antigone, Kreon and Antigone encountered opposing obligations torn between their duty to their people and Thebes and their duty to their family and gods. While Kreon ultimately chose his people and Thebes, Antigone chose her family and gods. This conflict of obligation between the two caused the strife between the two and resulted in the demise of both characters. They could both represent tragic figures, but Kreon is the most tragic figure in the play. In Sophocles Antigone, Antigone chose her brother over her community s unjust laws imposed by Kreon. Her reason for such a defiance is best summed up by her response to Ismene when she reveals her plan to break the law. You be as you think best, but I shall bury him. I ll lie there, dear to him, with my dear friend, when I ve performed this crime of piety; for I must please those down below a longer time than those up here, since I shall lie there always (71 76). It is clear from this conversation between the two that Antigone feels an obligation to her family and brother to give him the proper burial. She makes it clear that her brother was very dear to her and she loved him deeply. Her deep love for him made her capable of defying her community s laws and face death. She would rather lie in death next to her brother than never see her brother given the proper customary burial that all in the community receive. This deep love is also shown to her sister as she is willing to deny that her sister knew anything about her plan in order to ensure her sister does not get harmed. ... However, Schizophreniform Disorder and Schizophrenia is still worth considering due to the possibility that Caleb may have had a hallucination and was rather obsessed with his fantasies during his daycare years, as mentioned in the first session. In both of Chaucer s tales, the manner in which marriage transpires between the two couples varies prominently. Additionally, the effort to control the wives in the tales is also conspicuously different. In Chaucer s two tales, the author depicts the differences in both women by seeing if they are faithful to the vows of their marriage. Throughout the Canterbury Tales, Chaucer demonstrates to the reader a true and ethical appeal by using the aspect of marriage. Preventing Attacks on New Network-Based Systems Preventing Attacks on Nee Network Based Systems Introduction Recent changes in the organizational structure of the IT system has left open needs for adjusting practices in order to address new demands of protection. The organization has recently made the move from a standalone system to a network based one, which facilitates greater cooperation and collaboration within the company and increasing overall productivity. A network based system provides a more flexible structure to still function within a diverse and multifaceted environment. It does so by the fact that within its structure, communication between components is restricted to message passing, or the equivalent of message passing is a more efficient mechanism can be selected at runtime based on the location of components (Fielding, 2000). Network based systems allow communication and dissemination of information to occur seamlessly without lag. This then further empowers individual employees of the organization with greater technological tools. The research suggests that network based systems are those capable of operation across a network, but not necessarily in a fashion that is transparent to the user, but rather as an automatic process that increases the ease and productivity of each user while working on the system (Fielding, 2000). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anthropology, especially cultural anthropology, seeks to understand how and why peoples of the world differ in various ways as well as how and why peoples of the world share certain similarities. It is not at all unusual for people to assume that their own ways of thinking and acting are unquestionably rational normal or human. Cultural anthropological study provides us a look at the enormous variations in thinking and acting found in the world today due to the cultural differences and at same time anthropological literature has documented many different solutions generated for solving the same problems cross culturally. Therefore, anthropologists do more than simply document the enormous variations in human cultures by identifying and describing the commonalities of humans amid the great diversity, which are the regularities found in all cultural contexts regardless of how different those contexts might appear at first glance (Ferraro, 2005). Anthropologists have traditionally used a qualitative research approach to study human behaviors in different cultures. Such an approach is well suited to many of the complex questions confronting researchers interested in quality and culture. Qualitative research, more than just a set of data collection methods, is an approach that seeks to understand events, activities, norms and values from the perspective of the people who are being studied, anthropologists refer this way of research as the Emic approach. • 43. The Power Of Power In The Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins In a life where one must rebel to stand up for what is right. In a world where there is only one government. In a game to kill or be killed. Who truly has the power? In the novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, power is shown in many parts of the book. Although the government is initially successful at controlling everyone s lives in the Districts, as Katniss journey of survival progresses in the Hunger Games, her rebellious actions damage the Capitol s power. This causes her to prove the Capitol that they do not own her, and she has self power. Throughout the book, Suzanne Collins portrays that everyone has certain control. Collins uses the Districts, the rebellions, and the Capitol to get this message across to the readers. Despite being overpowered by the Capitol, the Districts still have some control over what they can do. First, the people in their District stand together. Then something unexpected happens..... [a]t first one, then another, then almost every member of the crowd touches the three middle fingers of their left hand to their lips and holds it out to me.....[i]t means thanks, it means admiration (Collins 24). In the text, District 12 is showing that they are refusing to applaud for Katniss to enter the games. This shows that the government has brute force on their side, but the people of District 12 have their own kind of power. This helps Katniss feel as though she is not alone, and everyone will always be with her. Their three finger gesture makes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the cost of entertainment is a significant expense for hotels, the cost of providing entertainment is justified by its effectiveness in attracting people to the gaming tables and machines (McDonald, 1998, p. 4). The market is also demonstrating a trend of hotels becoming a one stop shop. For example, hotels are not only including room stay but also gaming, entertainment, shopping, comedy clubs, lounges, nail and hair salons and other activities and amenities desired by consumers. This trend is demonstrating the evolution of hotels into destination resorts. Market Growth The market has demonstrated an increase in growth over the last decade. Sales for Hilton have also demonstrated a steady increase, particularly once the hotels expanded to include gaming and entertainment. Competition for the gaming dollar is intense, and the degree of investment needed to be successful is high. Hilton has had to put more than $6 million into renovating the Las Vegas Hilton to keep up with such rivals as the Mirage and the Excalibur (McDonald, 1998, p. 3). In addition, the hotel market has demonstrated a consistently high occupancy rate, particularly the Hilton hotels. In 1994, Hilton hotels showed system wide occupancy of 70 percent, a three point increase over 1993, while the U.S. hotel industry as a whole had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gregor In Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis In Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis Gregor, a young traveling salesman who dutifully leaves the family apartment early every day for a job he hates so that he can pay off his father s debts. Gregor is characterized as a bug because for the longest time he has felt nothing but pressure, so much pressure has been thrown at him that makes it him feel small. This portrays when Gregor changes into a being that is always alone and helpless, an insect. The first idea that leads to think Gregor is described as a bug is because Gregor has to step up and take care of his family debt. Gregor, being a salesman doesn t like his job, yet he continues to do it for the sake of the family. He often complains Oh God, what a grueling job I ve picked! I ve got the torture of ... He lives off the money his son makes for him because his business has failed which left him exhausted and emotionally broken and because of that Gregor has to step up and become the breadwinner. Although, Gregor s father is in good health, he sits around all day reading newspapers in his nightgown while his son labors at a stressful, dehumanizing job. After Gregor s metamorphosis With a hostile expression his father clenched his fist, as if to drive Gregor back into his room (Kafka 5). Usually when a child wants to help their parents through financial trouble they would usually get praised for helping, stepping up to the plate. However, when Gregor stepped up and got a job, despite its beneficial effects the father expresses considerable hostility toward Gregor. This gave an even more stress and causes Gregor to be depressed because, know what matter how much effort Gregor put into his job in order to help his family he would always get nothing but neglect instead of thanks from his father. This characterizes Gregor as a bug because he feels trapped by his father s failings just like a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reflections From My Own Grieving 1 Reflections From My Own Grieving Loren Harssar TATI: Art Therapy, Spirituality, Grief and Loss Friday, April 21, 2017 Claudia McKnight Reflections From My Own Grieving 2 The study of grief and bereavement has existed since the 1900 s when Freud came out with his idea of Mourning and Melancholia . Since then, there has been much more research done as well as theories created to make sense of the notion of losing someone. Within the current literature I have been reading on the topic, the use of stage theories of grieving are considered too rigid and are inaccurate representations of grief. As we know from basic ... • 47. reconstructs a personal world of meaning 5. Feelings are efforts towards making meaning 6. Identities continue to be reconstructed. (Lister) This model focuses wholly on the person living with loss finding meaning. When I was twelve years old, a close family friend of mine named Evan (who was my age) was diagnosed with brain cancer. At that age, I hadn t been introduced to death and nor did I really know or understand what cancer was or that it was possible for people so young to die. Before his death at age thirteen, my sister and I would spend a lot of time with him playing videogames, watching movies and swimming in his backyard pool. We watched the process of Evan losing his hair, having cancer treatments, doing physiotherapy and becoming very weak and fragile and rejecting treatments. I remember the day I found out that Evan had passed away so clearly. I was in grade eight and my mom had picked me up from school. When she broke me the news I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Paper Towns The book I am currently reading is called Paper Towns by John Green, the genre of the book is mystery because close to the ending of the book she leaves clues to where she ran away. There are 305 pages in the book. A review this book got on it was The following is quite a lot of dribble that I felt the need to get off my chest... . I recommend this book ages 14 and above because it has some words that are bad and I think some kids parents might not want their kids to see those words. The most important characters in Paper Towns are Margo Spiegelman and Quentin Jacobsen. Margo is quite a dare devil, she challenges herself A LOT. She sneaks out of the house at night when her parents are asleep. Margo can be funny but then turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Quentin then asked why she wanted to borrow the car, she then responded saying she had to do things and go to the store. So they soon got into the car and drove off to the store. Margo needed: Vaseline, six pack Mountain Dew, one dozen Tulips, one bottle of water, tissues, and one can of blue spray paint. The reason Margo needed that stuff was because she was trying to get revenge on her friends and ex boyfriend. Why?, Because he was cheating on her with another girl and her friends knew all along and they didn t even think of telling Margo that he was cheating on her. I think the theme of this book is, to get revenge on people for not telling you bad things so later on they won t hurt you, like in this case Margo s ex boyfriend. I think this is the theme because if Margo s friends have told her sooner, she wouldn t of been doing this to all her friends and her ex boyfriend. The conflict is mostly Man Vs. Society like as Quentin tries to solve the clues she left and finding her. It s also Man Vs. Society as Quentin is trying to find Margo because she disappeared and he feels guilty. Since my book was made into a movie, I would have to compare 1 thing of the movie and book. Sea World In The Book In the book it talks about how it s the ONLY theme park Margo has ...
