2. Background
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are an alternative rock band who
originated in Los Angeles in the year 1983 and was signed in 1990 by
Warner Bros Records after the band was signed by this record
company they released 6 successfulalbums .
Now the band is very successful and is renowned for their music.
They have produced 10 successful albums there most successful
being “blood sugar sex magik” released in 1991. This album has sold
over 12 million copy’s world wide, the song had many singles
released from it the most famous being “Under the Bridge” which
they released in 1992 and was ranked number 15 in VH1’s “100
greatest songs of the 90’s”
Music Video
In the original music video of the song it shows the band mates
running around doing random things and it occasionally goes back to
the band playing and performing in a room. This is good because it
shows the different band member and it is not boring.
What I intend to do with the music video is make a video of the band
I have gathered performing the song but have different shots of each
band member from several different angles performing the song so
that when I edit it together it will not just be one shot of the full band
playing, it will be several shots of each individual playing with
different angle shots with a few parts where it shows the full band.
The reason I am making my music video like this because if I just did
one shot of the full band playing this would not be very good because
it would not show my ability to record different shots and use
different equipment. Also if I only do one shot I will not be able to do
much editing wise in the video so this will limit the amount of marks
I will receive when the examiner looks at my video content.

3. Location
The location I will be filming my music video at will be at the
Hartlepool Sixth Form College in the band performance rooms. The
reason I am filming here is because I needed a place for the band to
perform where I can get different shots of each individual and this
place is the most ideal place as it is easy to get to and there is a drum
set already there so there doesn’t need to be any arrangement to
transport and set up a drum set.
A down side to filming here is there is a limited amount of space to
take my shots also there will be other people wanting to use that
room to record or other bands may need it to practice. Also there is
not much scenery or much you can do with the lighting in the room.
I will overcome these problems by getting in the room with the band
as much as I can and record as much as I can when I am in the room.
This will be the best way to overcome the problem as I cannot really
stop other people wanting to use the room as there is no booking
service for it. I can also book the studio so I can go in there with the
band this will be useful as I will be able to change the lighting in the
room and there is more space there.
Another location I could use is Ward Jackson Park I could use this
location for the band to play so there is more scenery behind the
band when they are playing this will be good because I will have a lot
of space to use the equipment I have to record.
A down side to this would be the weather; I would not be able to
record the music video if it is raining badly because all the equipment
would get damages including the camera I am using to record. Also
getting the drum kit there would be a problem as the drum kit is
rather heavy and it is quite a distance to transport a drum kit as I do
not drive.
I would be able to overcome these problems by checking the weather
forecast to have an idea when I should record if I so choose to use
this location so I would not go if it were forecast to rain. As for the
drum kit I could gather friends that can drive and ask them to
transport the drum kit to the park for me.

4. Camera Shots
I will be using several camera shots when I am filming the music
video a few of the camera shots I will use are;
Medium shots - To show the individual members of the band
when they are playing their instruments. And show the
Close up - This shot will be used to show the singer when he
starts singing. This will also be used on other members of the
band for example when the guitarist is playing the solo and the
bassist is playing the main riffs of the song.
Extreme close up - This shot will be used to show the
expression on the singers face when he is singing the song.
Establishing shot - This will be used to show the full band at
the start before the song starts, introducing the band to the
viewers of the music video I produce.
I will be using shots other than the shots I listed above but the ones
that are listed above are the camera shots that will be used the most
in the video sequence. I will be using these shots the most as they are
the most important for the type of music video I am doing and will
make the video look more professional.
Effects and Editing
When I have recorded my shots of the music video I plan to edit the
shots I have taken so I cam cut from one shot to another during the
music video. I plan to do a lot of editing when I am putting my music
video together for example at the start of the music video I play to
merge two video clips together where the guitarist and drummer are
playing before the singing starts.
The program I plan to use when I am putting my video together is
“final cut express HD”. This program will be very useful it has a lot of

5. useful effects that I can use and will help me make my video look
more professional
I also like the idea of using a montage of shots during some point in
the song to show everyone in the band playing their instruments.
This will be helpful as it will show the different members of the band
and how they are playing their instruments to this part of the song.
Another idea I can use is fading, I can make some parts of the
sequence fade from black or fade out at the end of a shot. This will be
useful as it will make it easier to merge it with other shots I have
taken to make the music video.
