CeBIT Social Business Arena keynote - Strategic building blocks for your Dig...David Terrar
Standing in fir Dion Hinchcliffe who was called away, this was the opening keynote in the CeBIT Social Business Arena. My idea was to do three things. First give the Agile Elephant view of the current complex and disruptive digital landscape. There is a wave of change affecting every business and some key issues to be understood that are driving the need for digital transformation in every industry, every style of business. I go through 20 years of a world gone digital and recommend 3 books to help make sense of where we are. Secondly present 8 strategic building blocks to enable transformation, with the emphasis on practical things you can do, and specific areas or factors that your organisation needs to address.
Lastly, leave you with a core message that is vital for the 21st century enterprise - and that is that you need to be in a state of continuous reinvention to make sure that some smarter, nimbler competitor doesn't make use of technology or new business models to take away your market.
Enabling the digital mind shift in the organisation - Enterprise Digital Summ...David Terrar
3rd of 3 opening keynotes at the 2015 Enterprise Digital Summit London - Stowe Boyd's gave us ideas about the future of the org, Euan Semple made it personal, and I added a bit of practical. Three key words for the presentation - Disruption. Reinvention. Education. Everyone's talking digital and it's dangerous... too dangerous to dilute the term, but crucially important that we understand it properly. Digital is becoming a synonym for technology or new or new technology. You need to understand the digital enterprise wave - the current disruptive landscape. Then here are 8 building blocks for transformation, and then our 7E approach to implementing change. Finally I echo Michael Corleone telling Sonny "it's not personal, it's business" with our version "it's not digital, it's business".
Transformation is not digital, it's constantAyal Levin
Many organizations focus on Digital Transformation as a key to success. There seems to be a belief that “Once we become fully digital, the transformation is complete”. However, the reality of today will not be the leading solution of tomorrow. This talk will focus on the reasons why it’s not about digital transformation, rather, it’s about building organizations that can support constant transformation -in culture, in working models, in strategic thinking, and in mindset.
What are the future trends in the Digital Workplace? Are we facing even bigger disruption from social, gamification, and the trends that have been prevalent over the last years or are we coming to a point where things are beginning to mature?
In this presentation - from Nordic Intranet Summit, November 2014 - I have looked at some common themes that I see across both the Nordic region and in the Intranet/Digital Workplace community as a whole.
Will there be Hoverboards? Not very likely... While innovations like these are exciting and fun, the real trends are what we see when we look at innovative solutions and innovative vendors.
The question is: Are we making the most of the emergent trends or are we still using the same thinking and logic we did when the Sharepoint 2007 intranet was launched? It's time to challenge ourselves and our peers!

The Internet of things (IoT) is growing rapidly and 2018 will be a fascinating year for the IoT industry. IoT technology continues to evolve at an incredibly rapid pace,
Consumers and businesses alike are anticipating the next big innovation. They are all set to embrace the ground-breaking impact of the Internet of Things on our lives like ATMs that report crimes around them, forks that tell you if you are eating fast, or IP address for each organ of your body for doctors to connect and check,.
In 2018, IoT will see tremendous growth in all directions; the following 8 trends are the main developments we predict for next year:
The IoT of Energy | From Smart Products to Intelligent SolutionsAdvisian
Rapid changes in consumer, business and industrial products and technologies, the proliferation of sensors and digital footprints and sophisticated data analytics are driving transformational shifts in many sectors. The energy sector has responded to this change with more energy efficient appliances, digital retail innovations and progressive smart grid investments, but this is modest relative to many others.

Digitalization: A Challenge and An Opportunity for BanksJérôme Kehrli
Today’s banking industry era is strongly defined by a word - digital. The urgency to act is only getting severe each day. Banks using digital technologies to automate processes, improve regulatory compliance, and transform the customer experience may realize a profit upside of 40% or more, while laggards that resist digital innovation will be punished by customers, financial markets, regulators, and may see up to 35% of net profit eroded, according to a McKinsey analysis.
The vital question to answer is, do we get digitalization right? Why is it getting extremely urgent to digitize?
George konstantakis iot and product design360mnbsu
The Internet of Things (IoT) may be at the core of the next Industrial Revolution! The socioeconomic implications of IoT, in general, are astounding. As with all disruptive technology, there are threats and opportunities that must be understood by business leaders. How do these implications relate to the needs of manufacturing businesses and the human resources that are intertwined with them? How can Product Design address those needs? This closing session will explore these questions and offer solutions.

IoT, AI and Blockchain: Catalysts for Digital TransformationAhmed Banafa
The digital revolution has brought with it a new way of thinking about manufacturing and operations. Emerging challenges associated with logistics and energy costs are influencing global production and associated distribution decisions. Significant advances in technology, including big data and analytics, AI, Internet of Things, robotics and additive manufacturing, are shifting the capabilities and value proposition of global manufacturing. In response, manufacturing and operations require a digital renovation: the value chain must be redesigned and retooled and the workforce retrained. Total delivered cost must be analyzed to determine the best places to locate sources of supply, manufacturing and assembly operations around the world. In other words we need a digital transformation.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Competitive advantage today is about being connected
• The Internet of Things
– Every non-trivial (and many trivial) object is going to be
connected to our networks
– 50 billion objects by 2020
– All your customers
– All their devices and data
– Value moves from periodic engagement to continuous
engagement
– Required deriving insight and analytics
• The Internet of Customers
– Connected relationships in scale
– Through all devices and channels
– Enabled by platforms and applications
• That orchestrate, analyze, and provide insight
5. @dhinchcliffeConstellation Research
The Motivation for IoT is the Opportunity
• Your organization is connected to all 2.5B connected
people in the world 24 hours a day through their devices
and digital touchpoints
- What will you do with this historic opportunity?
- While there is still first mover advantage
• They generate visible data continuously
- On social media
- From their mobile devices
- From applications
- From everything connected
• This will enable you to make unprecedented insights in
real-time.
• To drive high impact results and create new business
opportunities

Why IoT is different than previous connected strategies
• Total ubiquity
• Standardization has matured
• Protocols and hubs that can
support the numbers of devices
• Far richer sensor data
• Much lower cost floors
• Small and lower power devices
• Will create vast streams of
valuable data 24/7
• Advent of wearables and
embeddables
– Smart everything
– Smart dust
12. @dhinchcliffeConstellation Research
Network effects still the strategy, but IoT revolutionizes the game
• Network effects have long
become the new ‘digital
marketshare’
• Definition: Anything that has
value the more than other people
have it too
• Value is based on an exponential
growth curve
• Is a force multiplier
– But more importantly a zero sum game
• The Internet of Things is going to
shift the networked value
conversation two orders of
magnitudes to the right
24. @dhinchcliffeConstellation Research
Case Example: Progressive Snapshot
• Drivers an opt into the program
• Uses a telematics dongle and
machine learning,
• Progressive is able to judge how a
driver is performing on each journey.
• The insurer is able to price more
accurately and manage risk better
• Drivers can save up to 30%
25. @dhinchcliffeConstellation Research
Case Example: Beam Digital
• Provides a smart toothbrush to
every customer
• Monitors their oral health and
uses this information to support
a dental insurance plan
• Sends the customer notices and
encouragement if their brushing
habits are falling short of the
required standard
• Cuts insurance premiums for
customers by up to 25%
26. @dhinchcliffeConstellation Research
Case Study: Erie Insurance
• Erie Insurance employs drones
for property inspections in the
event of a damage claim
• Widely used in the recent
Florida hurricane
• Can do roof inspections in 10-20
minutes vs. an hour for a person
at a fraction of the cost
